Promthep Cape is a beautiful observation deck and the southernmost point of Phuket, Thailand. Cape Promthep

Promthep Cape / Phromthep Cape is the southernmost point of Phuket, located behind Yanui Beach. Many call Promthep Cape one of the most beautiful places in Phuket, as well as the best viewing platform of the island, where some of the most spectacular sunsets on the island. It is difficult to disagree with everything that has been said, because the views that open from here are difficult to convey in words. And so in the article you will find a large number of beautiful photos, because they are much better able to convey the whole picture of what is happening than the meager vocabulary of the author of the article. 🙂

And of course, here you will learn how to get to Cape Promthep, what excursions are conducted here, its location on the map and other useful nuances.

By the way, subscribe on my Instagram. There I promptly post the best photos and stories from my travels. 🙂

Cape Promthep on the map of Phuket

As you can see, on the map, Cape Promthep really occupies the southernmost point of the island. This part of Phuket is not as popular with tourists as the central one, so getting here on your own is more difficult, especially if you don’t have a scooter or car for rent. But in principle, it is possible. Well, let's figure out which option is best for you personally.

How to get to Cape Promthep

So there are at least a few options:

  • By car or bike. This is the easiest way to get to Promthep. You can get from the side, or you can move along the main road to the south - it will be quite difficult to make a mistake here. For convenience, there are signs on the track to Promthep Cape. It is best to download offline Google maps to your phone or install the maps.me application before the trip.
  • public transport. I will tell you more about this method below.
  • Taxi. Well, everything is clear, you can order anywhere.
  • As part of the review tours in Phuket. Read about them below as well.

How to get to Promthep Cape by bus

To be honest, getting here on a songteo (as Thai semi-open buses are called) is still a hassle. They go only up to 16-17 and the nearest stop is about 2 kilometers from the cape. Those. not only will you have to drive here for an hour and a half or two, but also for 40 minutes to trudge on foot in the heat, some of which will go up a steep hill. Such a pleasure. 🙂 But if you decide, then here's a plan of action for you.

First you need to get from Karon and Kata to Phuket Town on a blue bus that runs along the main street that runs along these beaches. In Phuket Town, on Ranong Street, change to a minibus with the inscription Phuket - Rawai - Nai Harn. Get off at the end of Rawai Beach, turn left at the crossroads and drive 1.5 km to Yanui Beach. Well, from the Yanuy beach, all that remains is to climb the hill and we will be Promthep for you. Just business! 🙂 This trip will cost 40 baht per person for one move.

1. We personally got to Promthep from Kata on a bike.

Excursion to Cape Promthep

You can get to Promthep as part of a group or individual excursion in Phuket - programs, to choose from, two pieces. You can order excursions online, through the service. I myself have used it more than once in the most different countries where was, so I can recommend.

Excursions to Promthep:

  • Group tour "". This tour is a group tour, in a company of no more than 12 people and is carried out on a comfortable minibus. The program, in addition to visiting Promthep Cape, also includes visiting places such as the statue Big Buddha, Old city Phuket, Wat Chalong Temple, lookout rank Hill. You will also visit the 5 most popular beaches of the island - Patong, Kata, Karon, Nai Harn, Rawai. The tour is not expensive, its cost is only 28$ or ~920 baht per person making it one of the cheapest Phuket tours.
  • Private tour "". The program of this sightseeing tour is in many ways similar to the previous one, but it implies more high level comfort, because it will be held on a personal car guide and there will be no one besides you and your friends or family. Worth the tour 128$ or ~4200 baht for 1-4 people. In fact, if you have gathered 4 people, then it is more profitable to order individual tour, it will cost for everyone a little more than a group one, but in terms of quality it will be much cooler. And you can also arrange to visit Promthep at sunset and see, if you're lucky, an unrealistic light show - see the pictures below. 🙂

By the way, everything the best excursions We have collected Phuket for you at.

Promthep Cape Travel or Die Review

We got to the cape on our own on a bike with. The road between these two points is very picturesque. As soon as you pass the road, it will crawl up the serpentine and on the right hand, simply gorgeous views will open!

2. Not the best best photo to illustrate the above, so you'll have to take our word for it. 🙂

3. There are many shops near the observation deck, but I do not advise you to buy something there. Package tourists are brought to this point by large buses, including a huge number of Chinese, who indiscriminately sweep away products with an impressive markup.

4. The main car park is almost always full, but there is another one just down the road towards Patong, where there is never anyone.

5. There is a small corner for bikes, but due to the high turnover, it is usually not a problem to find a place.

6. It is forbidden to drink alcohol and smoke on the cape.

7. The cape itself protrudes to the south and to reach its end you need to make a path along a very winding and uncomfortable path, but if you don’t want to do this, you can still enjoy good views. Such, for example.

8. Or like that. This one just shows the tip of Promthep.

9. The descent is quite feasible, but I advise you to wear normal closed shoes. I went down in flip flops, which, in principle, confirms that it is possible to go down this path anyway, but it is extremely inconvenient, so sneakers or sneakers are our everything.

10. The difficulties of the descent are compensated almost immediately - beautiful views begin to open almost immediately.

11. I look at all this beauty, and I have a cool and inexpensive backpack on my shoulders, the link to buy which is waiting for you here (it was the heading “product placement from God”: D).

15. On the left side of the cape there is a small beach. I have never seen anyone swimming there, but the locals told me that there is still a path to it along the slope.

)

20. In this photo you can see the island of Ko Kaeo Yai - an island with a monastery, which can even be visited if you take a boat to Rawai. A little further behind him you can see desert island. Well, to the left in the distance, on the horizon - paradise, where you can go on an excursion, plus its uninhabited counterpart.

21. And in this photo you can see the popular beach, small and less visited by tourists Yanuy and very tiny, secret.

Sunset at Cape Promthep

Separately, I want to tell you about the sunsets on the cape. They are one of the best in all of Phuket and tourists from all over the island come to admire them.

24. Promthep is not deprived of attention, but in the evenings a real pandemonium begins here.

25. People take their seats in the front row at the show.

26. By the way, on the top of the cape you can find a working lighthouse, which is also a museum. You can go inside to see the exhibits, you just need to take off your shoes.

27. And also a place of worship for Thai gods, in the form of an altar surrounded by dozens of elephants.

28. Most of all people accumulate on the passage, next to the path leading to the southern point of the cape. Here it is quite convenient to pose against the backdrop of the setting sun, which is what people use.

29. As I wrote above, the trail is not the easiest, especially at dusk. To confirm this, regularly placed warning stands. Be careful and do not forget to wear closed sports shoes if you want to get to the end point of the cape.

30. And here, by the way, is it - the southern point of Cape Promthep.

31. Sunset panorama. You can enlarge the link.

33. Most come to watch the sunset in couples, some with friends, I - with a piece of pie.

34. The sun sets over the horizon and colors the clouds with sunset glare.

35. Silhouettes.

36. Island of Ko Kaeo Yai with a Buddhist monastery.

Tourists are taken here daily on excursions, plus locals come in the evenings to watch the sunset.

There are a lot of viewpoints, there are also several interesting sights: a lighthouse, a museum, a statue of the Hindu God Brahma.

Promthep Cape Tour

At the entrance to Phromthep Cape, you will see a lot of souvenir shops designed specifically for tourists. There are also several points where you can buy fruits and have a snack. If you like something in the shops, then it's better to bargain, because. prices are really high. For those who urgently need it, there is an equipped toilet behind the tents.

As you go upstairs, you will see a tiny temple on the left with a statue of a seated Brahma. Tiny because it looks more like a spirit house. Around it are hundreds of elephant figurines of various sizes and colors.

Brahma is the Indian God who creates our universe. In Thai, it sounds like "Phrom", and "Thep" is translated as "God". Hence the name of the cape. Thais sometimes call it "lam jao". The sculpture is made in the Thai style and differs from those installed in Hindu temples. Locals daily bring flowers and decorations to him and come to pray.

From the equipped platform Promthep Cape, you can walk to the peninsula, which offers a wider panorama of the surroundings. In addition, there are very few people there, because. the climb is quite difficult and many are too lazy to go up and down the bumps. If you are not too lazy to do this, you can sit on a rock with your legs dangling. It is possible to go down to the water and even swim. But be careful, because there are quite a few slippery rocks. At high waves it is better not to go there - life is more expensive. The waves will easily take out on the stones and write wasted.

It is better to come to Promthep Cape at 18:00 to meet the sunset, because it is not without reason that the second name observation platform Sunset View Point. You will see how the sun sets over the horizon and all this against the backdrop of tall palm trees and the sea. Don't forget your camera to capture the moment. And these photos will warm you on dull and long winter evenings in Russia.

In fact, Phromthep Cape is better to come early, around 5 pm, to see a small museum before meeting the sunset. It is located right on the observation deck, inside the lighthouse. Built in 1996, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the reign of King Rama IX, the dome is cast from pure gold. Therefore, this place is translated from Thai as "Golden Jubilee Lighthouse".

At the entrance, on the left, it is written at what time today will be sunrise and sunset. To go inside, you must take off your shoes. There are many ancient exhibits inside, one way or another connected with the sea and ships: lighthouses of various designs, navigation compasses, lanterns, etc. You can buy keychains for 20 baht in the form of a starfish or a crescent with the inscription Phuket. Be sure to go up to the very roof of the lighthouse, because only from there a circular view (360 degrees) opens up to the island, as well as to the entire Promthep cape. If the sun is shining, then you won’t stay there much, because. the floor gets so hot that you have to shift from foot to foot, and in some areas even dance (recall that you have to take off your shoes when entering the lighthouse).

Near the lighthouse there is a monument to the founder of the Royal Thai Navy - Prince Chumpon. Incense and flowers are also brought here daily.

Unfortunately, words cannot describe the beauty that opens up with Phromthep Cape. As the saying goes, it's better to see once than hear a hundred times. So enjoy the photos below. And when you are in Phuket, then come to see all this splendor on your own. You will definitely like it!

Photo

Cape Promthep or Promthep Cape (Promthep Cape) is known as viewpoint and the most South part Phuket Island, located between the beaches of Rawai and Yanui.

However, Cape Promthep is not only an observation deck, Promthep is much more!

Promtep is also interesting monuments and attractions; stunning views and a small hiking route leading to the very nose of the cape. The panoramic views that open from this observation deck are not as large-scale as, for example, the views that can be seen from the Temple of the Big Buddha or from the Karon Kata observation deck, but what you see from Promthep undoubtedly deserves special attention, these views are the brightest, most colorful and some of the most scenic in Phuket.

A visit to Promthep, we, with all confidence, recommend to everyone who has chosen the island of Phuket for their vacation.

Conventionally, Promthep can be called a kind of complex and is divided into two levels, the upper one, where there is a large and ennobled square with monuments and sights located on it, and the lower one, which is actually Cape Promthep that goes into the sea.

There is a parking near the observation deck, and on the opposite side of the road there are shops with drinks, ice cream, snacks, fruits, souvenirs and other small things lined up in a row.

The main entrance to the observation deck. Nearby, in the shade of sprawling trees, there are a couple of small cafes where you can relax and drink soft drinks.

After passing through the conditional "entrance gate", we get to the observation deck. There are places for recreation, a gazebo and an interesting sculpture.

From this point colorful scenic views. From one side you can see Yanui Beach and partly Nai Harn Beach, and from the sea side you can see small islands and snow-white yachts bobbing freely on the waves.

If you wish, you can see all this beauty through these binoculars installed around the perimeter of the site.

Paths run through the territory, walking along which all the same great views, only slightly from other angles and angles.

Climbing up a small staircase, we pass to the second platform - Phra Prom Square. The square is decorated with an altar, around which there are a large number of elephants of different sizes and colors,

Monument to the Prince of Thailand - Admiral Krom Luang Chumphon (Krom Luang Chumphon Monument)

and a lighthouse-like building (Prompthep Cape Lighthouse). You can go inside the lighthouse, there is a museum. During our visit to Promthep Cape, the entrance to the lighthouse was closed, so, unfortunately, we were not able to see the exhibits of the museum.

In addition to the sights, on this, the highest platform of the Promthep complex, there are places for recreation. From this point, there are also picturesque views of the Andaman Sea and the surrounding area.

Going down, we get there, for which most tourists come to the southernmost point of Phuket - Promthep Cape, a narrow ledge of land that goes into sea waters, because this ledge is the southernmost point of Phuket.

You can walk to the bow of the cape, although the path is narrow, but quite comfortable

Along the way, you can see these pyramids of stones. Everyone can add a stone to the pyramid, for good luck, make a wish, or simply as a symbol of conquering another significant point in the world.

From the youngest point of Phuket, a view of the sea, nearby islands and the main part of the cape opens up.

How to get to Cape Promthep

You can visit Cape Promthep with sightseeing tour in Phuket, on your own by taxi or bike.

On public transport and on foot

From the beaches of Rawai, Yanui and Nai Harn, you can easily walk for 30-40 minutes.

From the beaches of Nai Harn and Yanui, following the line of the sea. The distance from Yanuy Beach is 800 meters, from Nai Harn Beach a little more than 3 kilometers.

From Rawai Beach, the closest way is from the intersection in the southern part of the beach (landmark - Rawai Palm Hotel Beach Resort), then along road 4233, you can also go along road 3047, but it will take a little longer to go.

We were walking along road 4233

Turn left at Rawai Palm Beach Resort

Almost there! Ahead we see a landmark - a lighthouse

From other beaches of the island through Phuket Town to public bus Phuket - Rawai - Nai Harn. It is better to get out at the very end of Rawai Beach, as soon as the songteo passes the beach. Further, at the crossroads, turn left onto road 4233 and follow it straight to the cape.

From the beaches of Kata and Karon it’s easier and faster to go to the Phuket Town - Kata - Karon songteo to the Chalong ring, where you transfer to the Phuket Town - Rawai - Nai Harn bus, get off at the southern part of Rawai Beach, and then everything along the route described above.

From Kata Noi beach walk or drive to Kata beach, distance is approximately 1 kilometer. And then, as well as from Kata beach.

One of the most beautiful and interesting places on the island of Phuket, is the observation Cape Promthep (Phromthep Cape). This is probably one of the most famous places for tourists to visit not only on the island, but also in the Kingdom of Thailand itself. Waypoints to it are found on the mainland of Thailand, long before the territory of Phuket. The name of the cape in Thai means "Cape of God Brahma".

It is located in the very south of the island, between such famous places as Nai Harn Beach and Rawai Beach. Behind its steep slope - only the endless expanses of the ocean. Due to its unique location and sharp protrusion into the sea, the observation deck of Cape Promthep can definitely be called the best on the island. And those who did not visit Promthep Cape during their visit could not be said to be in Phuket at all. Therefore, a visit to this observation deck is included in almost all domestic excursions around the island.

On Cape Promthep there is an operating lighthouse, the dome of which is cast from the purest gold. The lighthouse today is also a museum, which was opened here in 1996. The museum was opened in honor of the 50th anniversary of the reign of the late King of Thailand, His Majesty Bhumibol Adulyadej Rama IX. In connection with this event, the lighthouse itself wears given name- Lighthouse of the Golden Jubilee. Visiting the museum is allowed only without shoes, visitors must leave them at the entrance. The same custom exists in all the temples of Thailand. Inside the museum there are a large number of exhibits that tell about amazing story, both the lighthouse itself and the history of this cape as a whole. Having risen to the very top of the lighthouse, to its balcony, a circular panorama of all 360 degrees opens before your eyes. On the one hand, the southern part of Phuket is well presented to your eyes. In the distance you can clearly see the small cozy Yanui beach. and behind it famous beach Nai Harn (Nai-Narn Beach). You can also clearly see a huge electric windmill on the side of the mountain, and glider athletes soaring there, in the air, like huge birds. And when you look towards the ocean, a completely bewitching panorama of the most beautiful greenery opens before your eyes. tropical islands against the backdrop of distant sea horizons. Almost next to the lighthouse-museum there is a monument to Admiral Jumborn. He is considered the founder of the Royal Thai Navy.

The Phromthep Cape observation platform consists of two tiers, and it is quite elongated along the coast. On the upper tier there is a religious building - this is an altar, a place of worship for God Brahma. According to Indian mythology, Brahma is the God who created the universe. By the way, this is where the name of the cape came from. If literally translated from Thai, the word "Phrom" will mean Brahma, and the word "thep" means God. The statue of God Brahma located here is made in the Thai style and is a small house (similar to the small houses for spirits installed in many parts of the island) and a statue of a seated Brahma. And around it are surrounded by figurines of elephants. All of them are different sizes. From very tiny, to quite corresponding to the size of a real baby elephant. All of them are painted in a variety of colors. Local residents of the island every day come to this place to pray and bring offerings to God Brahma in the form of various ornaments and flowers.

Moving further, along the lookout Phromthep Cape you will see a rock ledge sharply protruding towards the sea. You can get to this place only by overcoming a sharp ascent and descent. The road is not equipped, and the path is completely covered with grass and stones. But having overcome it, you will not be disappointed, but rather the opposite. An even wider panorama will open before you than from the equipped part of the cape, and besides, you can sit with your legs dangling on the very edge of the cliff admiring the beautiful landscapes of the setting sun and the beauty of the incredible size of the ocean waves crashing against the rock ledge just below you. This place is just breathtaking photos. Just at the top of this ledge, tourists often stop in tents who love to travel wild or just want to spend the night in one of the most beautiful and exciting places in Phuket.

The infrastructure of the Cape is quite well organized. There is a large car park here, so you won't have any problems parking your vehicle. There are many stalls around where you can buy not only your favorite souvenir, but also beachwear and food. There are also two great restaurants on the territory: one of them is called the Phromthep Cape Restaurant itself, and the other is the picturesque name of Al Fresco. You can have a great time in these cozy establishments. romantic evening tasting wonderfully prepared dishes from gifts andaman sea and admiring the unique beauty of sunsets.

If you have become a guest of Phuket, then by all means follow the old saying: “What is seen is not what is heard” and go on a journey towards the sunset to Cape Phromthep. This is truly a unique place, and you are unlikely to find anything like it. Panoramas of grandiose width with an unimaginable play of colors of the setting disk of the sun, sinking in the depths of the sea depths ...

Cape Promthep or Phromthep Cape is the best place in order to spend a wonderful unforgettable romantic evening. Go on a sightseeing tour on motorbikes or by car around the island of Phuket!

You can get acquainted with the time of sunsets and sunrises at the stand at the entrance to the lighthouse on the left side. But you need to come there a little earlier, so that you have the opportunity to take your favorite and most convenient place.
