The first settlers of Lloret de Mar were Iberians who inhabited what is now Catalonia around the 4th century BC.

The current nucleus of the population was formed in the fifteenth century around the beach, at that time located about 1 kilometer from the coast. By the 16th century, the center of the city had moved to the coast.

This was the Indianos era, during which many locals they went overseas (America, Cuba, etc.), where they conducted business activities - traded, engaged in shipbuilding, etc., and then, having become rich, returned to their homeland, but not in the old ancestral homes, but erected new architectural buildings, at that time a curiosity for the province of Lloret architecture. According to their orders, neoclassical, modernist or eclectic villas were erected in Lloret and the surrounding area, some of which can still be seen today.
As the resort of Lloret began to receive the first foreign tourists in the 50s of the 20th century, then the old estates began to turn into hotels and recreation places, part of the vineyards were urbanized, the beaches were ennobled, the buildings of the central city core were connected with buildings beach areas, and the city itself grew inland.
However, the beginning of the development of tourism in Lloret was by no means sudden. Even before the middle of the 20th century, in the twenties and even earlier, rich families from Barcelona liked to spend their summers in the area. The ruins of the castle of St. Juan (Castillo de Sant Joan) are located on the top of the hill that separates the beaches of Lloret and Fenals, at an altitude of 60 meters.
