Attractions of Chonburi province. Route from Suvarnabhumi Airport

Arriving in Pattaya for the first time, we were, without exaggeration, shocked by everything around. An endless stream of traffic, noise and din, heat, smells, crowds of people of various nationalities. When they saw central beach, sad thoughts and slight disappointment appeared, because I wanted to beautiful sea and sand...

But soon, we began to really like this unusual atmosphere and now we love to visit Pattaya with the whole family. We are interested in everything - cuisine, attractions, entertainment, excursions. We are happy to share with you useful information and stories about various places and publish useful travel materials.

general information

Multifaceted, sunny and bright, delightful, surprising Pattaya, and for some, not very much at all. What to do, everyone sees everything in their own way. A city of constant movement, which does not sleep at all, but at the same time it is easy to find peace and tranquility in it. A city of bright contrasts in which everyone will find something to their liking and wallet.

According to the 2015 census, Pattaya has 115,840 registered residents. In fact, taking into account tourists and temporary residents, the real population is 3-5 times larger, depending on the season.

Until now, Pattaya is best known in the world for "adult recreation" - countless beer bars on the streets, go-go bars, the world famous walking street, "unusual" massage and other delights. However, in recent times the city authorities began to restore order in order to transform Pattaya and attract more "decent" tourists - married couples, families with children. Also, in the city, large-scale work is being carried out to clean up the beaches and the sea.

Beach Road

But, despite the reputation of the city of debauchery, here you can have a great rest with your family even now, you just need to know where and how. At your service a lot of entertainment, cultural and historical values, beaches and sea excursions. In general, Pattaya still has an active pastime. So if you like it - you will like Pattaya. About Pattaya, you can say that you either don’t like it at all, or like it forever.

There is an opinion that it is not very good to relax with children here. We do not agree with this, there are a lot of places in Pattaya where children will really like it. And we've tested it over and over again!

Weather in Pattaya

When planning a trip to Pattaya, especially for the first time, you need to familiarize yourself with the peculiarities of the climate and weather so that it is clear what to expect. In Pattaya, as in all of Thailand, the climate is very unusual for tourists living in other latitudes and conditions. It's hot and humid here.

Downpour over Pattaya. Don't worry, this doesn't happen very often.

The best time to visit Pattaya is from November to March, as the weather is most favorable and comfortable at this time.

History of Pattaya

At the famous resort town Thailand Pattaya also has its own history.

It tells how, in the 1950s, an inconspicuous fishing village was chosen for recreation by soldiers of the US Armed Forces, who were based at the airport nearby. There was a war with Vietnam, and Thailand, as an ally of the United States, was crowded with its military bases.

Pattaya Beach 1977

The desire to brighten up their monotonous everyday life led the soldiers to a secluded place where they could sunbathe on clean beaches, swim in the waters of the Gulf of Thailand, and at the same time have fun with local beauties.

Attractions

Like any tourist town, Pattaya has its own attractions. Some of them are " calling card» cities, they are very famous and popular all over the world. To visit them or not is, of course, up to you, but some of them, we believe that it is simply necessary.

Golden Buddha Mountain - Khao Chi Chan

The most famous of them are undoubtedly:

  • - the most big statue Buddhas in Pattaya and a significant religious site
  • , which amazes with its scale and collection of plants
  • - a unique building that you will definitely remember for a long time - this is a completely wooden temple, more than a hundred meters high.
  • Walking street - center nightlife and adult entertainment in Pattaya, can also be called a landmark known to the whole world.

Entertainment for the whole family

In addition to the main and cultural and historical sights of the city, in Pattaya there are many more places and activities for adults and children.

Giraffes in Kha Kheo

At the Teddy Bear Museum

At your disposal, zoos, game rooms. In Pattaya there is even ice rink!

  • - a huge super-entertainment center for the whole family, located in central area
  • - trampoline park in Harbor
  • - a large and cool themed water park from the cartoon channel of the same name
  • - the largest and newest in Thailand
  • - will surprise anyone with its size and variety of inhabitants.
  • - here you will see a very interesting show of dolphins, as well as be able to take pictures and even swim with them.
  • - cool teddy bear museum

Food, cafes and restaurants

There are many places to eat here. Even a lot! Starting from street makashnits (trolleys that are transported by hand or with the help of a bike) and ending with very expensive and chic restaurants.

Right on the street and in the markets of the city, you can try various Thai street food - these are chicken / seafood skewers, sausages and meat balls, noodle dishes with meat, Thai soups, Pad Thai. As well as pancakes with banana and Nutella, loved by many, and with other fillings)

Most cafes and restaurants in Pattaya national cuisines world, as well as purely Thai establishments with authentic cuisine. World chains of fast food and desserts, inexpensive local street cafes.

Check out our reviews of some of them:

For those who miss Russian cuisine, there is where you can enjoy borscht, dumplings and cutlets

Transport

There are no special problems with transport in the city, just some of its types are very unusual. The local population moves in cars and, of course, motorbikes (scooter, moped in our opinion). Bikes here, as well as throughout Asia, of course, are countless. Thais manage to ride them in threes and even fours (with children).

As for public transport, then there are significant differences. There are no townspeople in the city shuttle buses, trolleybuses and trams. They move here to, which, if we draw an analogy, replace the minibus. It is inexpensive, even the most cheap transport. Songteos run along all the main streets of the city and you can easily get to the right place on them. See

In addition, both automobile and motorcycle are always available in Pattaya. Their parking lots are located on all busy streets and at various tourist places.

You can also rent a bike or a car, but there are almost no bikes in the city. Inconvenient and dangerous.

Beaches

It's no secret that Pattaya is not famous for its "paradise" beaches. Unfortunately, most of them are completely different from those shown in the pictures in travel agencies and on the Internet.

The most important city beach in the center is, which by the way has recently become better. For many, it is this fact of expectation versus reality that causes frustration and negative emotions. But Pattaya is not declared as the best place for a beach holiday. In general, we can say that if you only need to lie on the beach and swim in blue water, then maybe you should look at other resorts.

On Jomtien Beach in Pattaya

Nevertheless, there are beaches, on some of them it is quite normal to relax and swim.

The best nearby beaches are not exactly in Pattaya, but they are easy to get to. For example, or on the island of Koh Lan

Koh Lan Island

The nearest one offers tourists its beautiful beaches, which are not at all the same as in Pattaya. Clear water of beautiful color and a real beach holiday - that's what awaits everyone there. Visiting here for the first time, we were amazed at this huge difference. A very short distance, and you seem to have arrived in a completely different place.

Beach on Koh Lan island

Due to its proximity to Pattaya, for many, Koh Lan is associated as an integral part of the holiday here. On our trips, we always set aside days to visit Koh Lan.

You can get to the island from Bali Hai Pier by ferry (40 min) or speedboat (15-20 min). The island has several major accessible beaches, which will not be difficult to get to. Some of them can be reached directly from the ferry. Almost all beaches have cafes and there are no problems with food. For example, you can eat a portion of noodles with meat for 40 baht. For 100 Baht you can buy good denim shorts and for the same amount you can buy a good T-shirt. To do a foot massage costs from 180 baht. A small bottle of water costs 6 baht, and a jar of cola costs 14 baht. But of course, these are all minimum prices and you won’t be able to spend that much every day.

Prices for basic goods and services that are primarily needed for recreation, we have collected in the article:

Markets Pattaya

Pattaya's markets have been attracting tourists for many years with their assortment and affordable prices. Spending time in the market, among the mountains of goods, fruits and ready-made food, is very interesting. Here you can find almost everything you need for a holiday - clothes, shoes, hats, glasses. Bags, backpacks, selfie sticks, chargers.

Of course, there are no expensive technical devices and large equipment here, as well as clothes from leading world brands - but these are markets, after all. By the way, the clothes come across very good, and decent in appearance and quality.

One of the markets in Pattaya

In general, if you want to buy things not very expensive, eat fresh Thai fruits or taste authentic street food - go to the market! The largest and most popular shopping centers are: - a large and very popular shopping and entertainment center located in the very center; (former Central Center) - lovely shopping complex on second street.

Where to buy groceries?

There are absolutely no problems with buying groceries in Pattaya. Large chain supermarkets and their mini formats such as Big C and Tesco Lotus are at your disposal.

Tesco Lotus on North Street

These stores have everything you need and more. Absolutely all kinds and types of food in a large assortment, drinks, ready meals. There is also a large selection of household goods.

It is best to buy fruit in the markets - it is fresh there and you can bargain.

Seafood is also sold in stores, but if you need the freshest, you need to head to the fish markets. For example,

And Family Mart - these stores deserve a separate story. In them, on a small area, just a huge range of essential goods is sold, from food to medicines. Drinks, sunscreens, batteries can be listed for a long time ... this is a kind of store of 1000 little things)

These shops are also popular because you can buy a variety of sandwiches and burgers at a very low price, which will be prepared for you right there. Ready-made meals in a package that you can take with you or heat up right in the store. Here you can also pour a glass of hot coffee.

On the shelves of 7-eleven

These shops are scattered throughout Pattaya and are within walking distance anytime and anywhere.

Daeng Beach is one of the smallest and most deserted beaches of Koh Lan.

It is located in the north of the island and does not have a developed infrastructure - there is only one cafe on the territory, and there is also a rental of sun loungers and umbrellas. The shore of the beach is sandy, about 200 meters long and 30-40 meters wide. It is better to swim here during the high tide, as during low tide, too dirty bottom becomes visible.

The sign indicating the way to the beach says Ta-Yaiy Beach, but on the island of Koh Lan everyone calls it Daeng Beach. Daeng Beach is beautiful and quiet place where you can enjoy the picturesque nature and silence.

Tawaen beach

Tawaen Beach is the most crowded and largest beach of Koh Lan.

Ferries depart from Pattaya to Tawaen Pier every day and return after midnight. There are many free sunbeds on the beach, umbrellas and towels for rent. On the shore of Tawaen there are small shops that sell clothes - swimwear, sunglasses, pareos and summer shoes. The beach has showers and toilets, many restaurants and cafes serving European and Thai cuisine.

On the territory there are pharmacies open until the evening, a police station and a first-aid post. Among the entertainments on Tawaen are popular: diving, riding bananas, jet skis and scooters. The beach has smooth golden sand without pebbles and corals, which eliminates the risk of injury.

Thian beach

Thian Beach is one of the most scenic and secluded beaches in Koh Lan.

In the low season, there are usually few visitors here, so from April to October the place is empty or becomes a haven for couples in love. The territory of Thian Beach is equipped with all amenities: there are shops, souvenir shops and cafes, showers and picnic areas. The beach offers rental of umbrellas, sun loungers and beach accessories.

The water here is clear and azure, so many tourists like to dive and enjoy the beauty of Thian Beach. water world. It is believed that off the coast of Thian Beach are the most beautiful Coral reefs throughout the island of Koh Lan and lives a large number of exotic fish.

Thong Lang Beach

Thong Lang is often compared to Tawaen as it is also a large and well-maintained beach.

Thong Lang is located near Tawaen but is not as popular as its neighbor. On the beach there are many amenities: sun loungers, umbrellas, showers, awnings, grocery stores and cafes. Here you can rent a scooter or motorbike, buy or rent sports equipment, and stay overnight in one of the small bungalows.

A steep road leads to the beach, and the bottom of the coast is too rocky - these are perhaps the only disadvantages of Thong Lang. Tourists here are usually Chinese, but sometimes there are Russian vacationers.

In the western part, the territory is washed by the waters of Bangkok, in the south - by the Gulf of Thailand.

Although the provincial capital of Chonburi is the city of the same name, the most famous resort is considered to be Pattaya. In terms of the number of attractions, Chonburi leads among other provinces of the country.

Resorts

An important role in the economy of the province is played by tourism, successfully developing due to its successful geographical location. The resort, which is sometimes called the "sin city", has gained worldwide fame. Located in an industrial area, the resort has gained popularity not beach holiday, and night bars and discos. There are also beaches here, but they are far from ideal, because they are located within the city. To relax on a clean coast, tourists go on day trips to the nearest coral.

The second most attractive resort after Pattaya is Bang Saen Beach, located 14 km from the administrative center of the province. Bang Saen Beach is considered a "weekend beach". Citizens from Bangkok and the provincial capital come to spend the weekend on the bay. For tourists, this resort offers a large selection of hotels and bungalows. The quiet Thai town of Bang Saen is not at all a tourist one, but rather a student one, because there is a large university here.

Clean green streets come alive on weekends when there is an influx of visitors from the capital. special pride local residents is a beach that stretches all the way to the city of Chonburi. There is enough space for everyone - both locals and visitors. Long rows of sun loungers with umbrellas are located under the palm trees. The sand in the sun is striking with dazzling whiteness, and at sunset it looks golden.

The province is known for its large number of fishing villages and many agricultural and industrial areas. The provincial capital, Chon Buri, is a major industrial center with seaport, which, due to its shallow water, can rather be called a fishing harbor. The population is engaged in trade, commerce, and fishing. In the vicinity of Chonburi there are sugar cane plantations and oyster nurseries. There are no special entertainments for tourists in the city, there are very few European-level restaurants.

Attractions

Let's get acquainted with the most significant of the many attractions that Chonburi Province is famous for.

The town of Bang Saen is famous for its university, one of the largest in the country, where they study the sea. At the same time, in higher educational institution there is an aquarium of marine fauna. Near the town is Monkey Mountain, which is definitely worth a visit. The road up the mountain is long, but from the top there are breathtaking views of the surroundings. The monkeys themselves living there are not wild at all, but accustomed to people. On the mountain is interesting garden cacti.

In the northern part of Pattaya, on the seashore, there is an amazing building - the Temple of Truth. This attraction has other names - Prasat Mai, Wang Boran. The bizarre building, made in the style of ancient Thai architecture, was built relatively recently - in 1981. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that only one material was used for construction - wood.

This is the tallest wooden building in the world - about 105 m. Its spiers are crowned with four wooden figures - symbols of religion, life, philosophy and peace. In the center of the composition is a rider, symbolizing the world of people. Despite its young age, the temple looks like it is more than one hundred years old. This effect is obtained due to the moist sea air, from which the wood darkens. In the interior of the temple you can see a huge number of different figures and ornaments.

Not far from Pattaya is one of the most famous attractions of the country - the Nong Nooch Botanical Garden. It consists of various zones and themed gardens. While walking in the park, you can admire great views and unusual plants. Of particular interest is the Garden of Pots, in which entire compositions are made up of clay pots. The French-style garden strikes with a harmonious combination of European lawns with traditional Buddhist stupas.

More about

One of the several ponds in Nong Nooch Gardens is home to the world's largest freshwater fish. Car connoisseurs can enjoy a collection of 40 sports cars. You can spend the whole day walking in the park. This is perfect place for family vacation. Children will be delighted with the show with elephants, after which they can ride these giants for an additional fee.

Water buffalo racing is a breathtaking spectacle that is unlikely to be seen anywhere else. Such bulls are used in Thailand for plowing fields, but in the town of Chonburi they have found another use. Every year about 300 bulls take part in the tournament. Rider jockeys drive them with wooden sticks. In addition to racing, magnificent processions are organized here, the best decorations are chosen for the favorites of the festival - buffaloes, fairs and concerts are held. The buffalo festival is a long tradition dating back over a hundred years. The celebration is held annually in October-November.

In addition to those listed above, Chonburi Province pleases tourists with other interesting sights that are definitely worth a visit.
