How to use tickets

When entering the Budapest metro, passengers compost only piece tickets, for this a paper ticket is inserted into the hole where it is automatically punched.

Validators in the subway are not difficult to find - they are located in the lobby or by the escalator. As for travel cards, they are simply shown to the driver or controller.

You can walk past the composter, there are no turnstiles, but at the peak of attendance, there are very attentive people in uniform at the entrance, and almost 100% check the fare at the exit of the metro.

Retirees in Hungary and the EU over 65 travel free of charge, but older tourists from other countries buy tickets on a common basis.

The fine for traveling by "hare" is 16,000 forints (almost 50 euros). When paying the controller on the spot, the amount is reduced to 8,000 thousand, a receipt is issued.

When is the best time to buy

A tourist card for 24, 48 or 72 hours with free travel and discounts for visiting attractions will pay off if you visit at least 3-4 museums, the Lukács baths and use it walking tour with an English speaking guide. Plus cards - together with a parent, one Budapest Card free travel, discounts and benefits are received by a child under 14 years old.

For those who prefer walking around the city, gatherings in restaurants, it will be cheaper to buy a metro ticket when needed.

On the Budapest metro, you can quickly get to the capital's train stations: along the red line - to the South (Déli) and East (Keleti), along the yellow line - to the West.

The historical line M1 is laid under Andrássy Avenue (Andrássy út). Its length is less than 5 km, and the stations are located at a distance of 500 m from each other. It is better to walk along the avenue to Heroes' Square on foot, there are many interesting shops along the way. Then you can relax in or go to the zoo - all these facilities are near the Széchenyi Furdo station. The Varosliget park and the Vajdahunyad castle are also located there. After all this program, you won’t have the strength to go back along Andrássy on foot, it’s convenient to return back by metro.

To get to the town of Szentendre, you need to take the green line to the final one - Batthyány tér on the Buda side and transfer to the HEV train.

If you want to stay near the main attractions in the very center, then focus on the Ferenc Deak Square station.
