The origin of the Gatchina geysers is shrouded in mystery. There is an opinion that in the soil layer under the geysers there are artificial deposits of gas enclosed in a layer of underground water. It is known that this method of gas storage was invented in Leningrad, and the first storage facilities were located in the vicinity of the city. Fountains of water gush forth from the moss-covered ground. They are especially beautiful in summer, when the height of the jet reaches two meters. In winter, geysers freeze, forming ice sculptures of bizarre shapes. But the most interesting thing about these "sculptures" is their color, due to the presence of gas, the ice becomes pale green.

Duderhof Heights

Not far from the station "Mozhayskaya" is located the most high point within the boundaries of Petersburg. Three large hills, the Voronya, Orekhovaya and Kirchhoff mountains, form the Duderhof heights. This place got its name in honor of the old name of the village of Mozhaisky, which until 1950 was called Duderhof. The hills are of prehistoric origin: they were formed during the Ice Age. Today, on the slopes of the heights, there is a semi-wild Upland Park. From here opens great view in the suburbs of St. Petersburg. Hills close the area from northern winds creating favorable conditions for plants. In some places, relic thickets of hazel have been preserved, and on Orekhovaya Hill you can find lindens and pines, whose age exceeds 150 years. In addition, there is a spring with drinking water.

radon lakes

The unusual color of the reservoirs in the vicinity of the village of Lopukhinki has attracted the attention of curious tourists and scientists for many years. Experts managed to find out that the lakes owe their magical color to radon. This chemical element is contained in the water of an underground source that feeds local reservoirs. It is thanks to the circulation of water enriched with radon that the Lopukhinskiye lakes are so transparent, and the bottom is clean - there is no underwater flora and fauna. Many doctors and scientists believe azure water from local reservoirs is healing, so research has been carried out here repeatedly, and at one time a hospital for sailors even functioned in the village.

Losevsky threshold 0+

The Burnaya River, on which the threshold is located, appeared relatively recently, in the 19th century. This is the fruit of the unsuccessful intervention of man in the natural order. Once upon a time, a small channel ran on the site of the threshold, connecting Vuoksa with Lake Sukhodolsk. The Finns who lived here wanted to connect these reservoirs with Lake Ladoga, thereby paving the shipping route from Saimaa to Ladoga. The engineers decided to expand the channel and reverse the flow with the help of blasting. However, the rocks deposited in these places did not succumb to human influence. At the site of a calm channel, a dangerous threshold formed, and the passage of ships here was impossible. Even additional explosions did not help. They gave up on the idea, and today the Losevsky threshold has become a favorite place for lovers of water extreme sports. Moreover, you can come here at any time of the year: due to the rapid current, the water does not freeze even in frost.

The favorite place of St. Petersburg climbers and hikers is located on the border of the Leningrad region with Karelia. Due to the rocky landscape, it is very difficult to get close to it: cars must be left in a remote parking lot and make their way to the lake through the forest and rocks. Settlements local residents are also quite far away, so natural monument largely shielded from unscrupulous tourists. Here you can see the untouched forest landscape, swim in clear water and admire the picturesque rocks. This is one of the few places in the Leningrad region where rock climbers can practice in natural conditions.

Gorchakovsky waterfall 0+

A phenomenon unusual for northern latitudes can be observed near the villages of Issad and Gorchakovshchina. A river flows here with the good-natured name Lyubasha. A small canyon, along which the riverbed runs, forms a threshold in one place. Here is a four-meter waterfall, called Gorchakovsky - by the name of a nearby village. The waterfall is framed by red sandstone slopes and greenery of deciduous forest. Despite its small height, the Gorchakovshinsky waterfall is considered the largest in the Leningrad region.

To get to these protected places, you need to move away from St. Petersburg for almost three hundred kilometers. Once upon a time, representatives of the ancient Finno-Ugric tribe lived here - the Veps, after whom the forest got its name. The rich nature of the region was the best suited for the life of the settlers. Here they built their dwellings, fished and grew crops. For hundreds of years, the appearance of the forest has changed little: Fresh air, endless thickets of pines and firs, clean springs and waterfalls... Berries and mushrooms grow in this forest, ponds are filled with fish. Village buildings in the traditional Russian style organically fit into the ecologically clean landscape: wooden huts and Orthodox churches. In 1999, these territories were given the status of a nature reserve. You can come to the Veps forest on an excursion or explore the ecological trails on your own.

For many years, plans were hatched to improve the Yuntolovsky forest dacha, but the Soviet authorities did not succeed in implementing their plan, and in 1990 the forest received the status of a reserve. Today, the park occupies a vast territory in the west of the Primorsky district with an area of several square kilometers. This is one of the few places in the city where you can watch the life of rare species of birds. Migratory birds nest in the park without fear of proximity to residential areas. To track them in the reserve, even several observation posts are equipped. However, the reserved status of the park is not able to restrain the advance of civilization to its borders: for example, a part of the Western High-Speed Diameter route was built along its eastern part a few years ago.

Primorsky district, reserve "Yuntolovsky"

Protected area in resort area has the status of the only "green museum" in St. Petersburg, where all the exhibits are created by nature. The first eco-trail in the city leads to the shore Gulf of Finland, meandering between centuries-old firs, green hills and cascades of ponds. For the convenience of walkers, footpaths in difficult places are equipped with wooden flooring, signs help not to get lost, and in the middle of the path there is a gazebo where you can take a break. In informative articles on forest information stands, you can read about the flora and fauna of the Komarovsky Bereg and learn about the secrets of experienced trackers.

During the existence of this project, the participants of the game have already managed to get acquainted with many city parks, such as Izmailovsky, Lefortovsky, Sokolniki, Kosinsky. This year the game was held in the north of the capital, in the Dubki park, which is located in the Timiryazevsky district and is part of the Petrovsky-Razumovsky nature reserve.

Small and cozy, in comparison with the famous Moscow forest parks, the Dubki landscape park was not chosen by chance: it literally conquers with its autumnal charm of an oak alley, lace paths and smooth surface of ponds. Classical columns and an openwork belvedere, standing on a hill in the central part of the park, became the decoration of the oak forest. A truly historical pearl of the park is the Church of St. Nicholas. The author, the famous architect Fyodor Shekhtel, considered this project his best work.

The participants had to go along the route, uniting several centuries and the great names of historical figures. The main discovery for the children was the unique traditions and skills of Russian craftsmen to harmoniously integrate art installations and architectural forms into the natural landscape.

Creative competitions and quizzes, travel tasks and competitions - that's what awaited the participants during the game. Disassemble, put up, assemble the tent, properly pack in sleeping bag, to master the knitting of tourist knots - all this is both exciting and useful, and also fits perfectly into the theme of the Day of the tourist, to which the game was timed.

Performances, magical autumn tales and excellent mood became a bright finale. And the collection of acorns for ecologists of the forests near Moscow has become a socially useful part of the program.

And who won? The winners are those who were not afraid of the promised downpour and hurricane wind, and came to meet with friends. The game "Wonderful City of Moscow" continues and is waiting for new participants!
