Behind the baths you will see the ruins of the temple of Tyche and Fortuna (2nd century BC), in its center there is a round-shaped room with twelve columns, which was later used by pirates for the slave trade.

Here you can also see the remains of the theater, which accommodated up to 20 thousand spectators, where gladiator fights took place, and monumental gates dating back to the 2nd century.

Not far from the theater is the Roman temple of Dionysus, the entrance to which is decorated with a restored fountain. On the left are the remains of a Byzantine basilica. Even in Side there are ancient remains of three temples, an aqueduct and a fountain, which was a grotto with a spring dedicated to beautiful nymphs.

To the right of the theater is a museum with tombs, columns, pedestals and various architectural details dating from the Hellenistic and Roman periods. This museum is truly unique; its collection of exhibits is housed in ancient Roman baths.

Chenger

The resort area is located in the east of the resort of Side (Manavgat region). Further across the river Ulugyuney is the resort and the region of Alanya.

The village of Chenger is located 2 kilometers from the coast. The population of the village is 894 people (for 2018). That is, it is so small that the municipality has the opportunity to count all residents annually. Residents work on the coast tourism or engaged in agriculture.

Beaches. The resort area on the coast is 6 kilometers of beaches. Beach coverage - small and large pebbles at the entrance to the water, sand away from the water.

Hotels. Highway D400 runs very close to the sea, so almost all hotels in Chenger are located across the road from the beach. There are only 6 hotels with their own beach (not across the road), they are located in the very east, on the border with Alanya.

In total, there are two dozen hotels in Chenger, while this area is poorly developed, but new hotels open every year. Mostly there are large hotels of 4 or 5 stars.

Another important point. Tourist infrastructure is poorly developed in Chenger - there are almost no cafes and restaurants. We highly recommend buying tours only according to the system All Inclusive, otherwise you may find yourself in an unpleasant situation - you will have to go to eat by taxi or dolmush (minibus).

Kyzylot (KızIlot)

Some guidebooks and websites refer to this area as kyzilot, but the correct pronunciation in Turkish is kyzylot. It is a small settlement with a population of 2,300 inhabitants according to the last 2007 census.

At this point, the D400 highway moves away from the sea, and there are already hotels right on the beach. The village of Kyzylot is located about 700 meters from the coast, just behind the highway. Residents are engaged in agriculture and work in the tourism sector. It makes no sense for tourists to go to the village, there is only a mosque and a post office.

Beaches. There are 3.5 kilometers of beach in Kyzylot. All beach line built up with hotels, but not densely. That is, there is no pandemonium on the beaches here even at the peak of the season. Beach coverage - sand away from the water, small pebbles at the entrance to the water.

Hotels. There are about three dozen hotels in Kyzylot. Basically it is 3 or 4 stars. Most work on the All Inclusive system.

The tourist infrastructure in Kyzylot is very poorly developed, for the entire resort area there are no more than a dozen restaurants. Therefore, we recommend only All Inclusive tours and nothing else.

Kyzylagach (KızIlağaç)

In some guidebooks and on websites, this area is called "kyzIlagach", but the correct pronunciation in Turkish is "kyzylagach". From Turkish, the name translates as "alder". small village, population - 1320 people according to 2009 data.

Kyzylot and Kyzylagach are separated by the Karpuz River - this is the border of the Kyzylagach resort area in the east. In the west, the border runs along the Manavgat River.

How to get to Side

The nearest airport to Side is in Antalya, but for those who do not like to fly or are not in a hurry, there are other routes - by land and sea.

By plane

Transport

You can move around Side by local minibuses - dolmushes - or taxis. There are no special tourist passes, as well as tickets - the fare is paid to the driver upon landing. Many sports activities are offered - you can try your hand at sailing and water skiing, go diving, fishing or go on boat trips. For fans of extreme sports there is parasailing - flights over the sea with a parachute. To the east of the cape is not so crowded and more calm. Coniferous and orange groves grow along the beach. Those who prefer a completely secluded holiday should get away from the crowds of vacationers along the coastline, where one of the most beautiful turtle beaches in the entire Mediterranean is located.

Diving in Side

The tour is worth going to historical Center Side. Previously, a whole complex of ancient buildings was located here, now only ruins remain of them, but something has been preserved quite well. The location of the largest square of the ancient Greek city - Agora - can now be determined only by the foundations of commercial and utility rooms, a surprisingly surviving public toilet and the remains of the temple of the goddess of luck Tyukhe.

Not far from the Agora are the ruins of the oldest stone building in the country - the basilica. Even in a dilapidated form, one can guess the original architecture with Byzantine motifs. It will be possible to consider a rather intricate layout of the building. Next to the basilica are the palace and the bishop's chapel, built a little later.

From the mainland Old city fenced off from the rest of the resort by ancient walls. The other part, facing the sea, has practically not been preserved. In some places, columns with stucco and other architectural elements are clearly visible.

From the monumental building of the port bath in the past, now only outlines remain - collapsed stone walls with large arches. But even this is enough to understand the importance attached to it by the ancient Turks, who built a huge steam room in the 3rd century BC. e. And to the north of the bath is the Roman theater, which has seen ancient tragedies, gladiator fights and staged naval battles. A semicircle of visual rows, stone masks of the goddesses of Comedy and Tragedy and fragments of other sculptures have been preserved.

When looking at the aqueduct, whose age is only slightly less than the basilica, the scope of ancient engineering is striking. The construction of such a waterworks in this area required complex structures; it provided water to the whole city. From here it was also supplied to the famous Nymphaeum fountain. Although now only two floors remain from it, and the decorative elements are practically not preserved, the former grandeur can be judged by the massiveness of the structure and fragments of marble in the cladding.

Several frescoes that adorned the Nymphaeum, as well as aqueduct pipes and many other exhibits found on the territory of the old city of Side, can be seen in the Antique Museum. The exhibition includes statues of Athena and Apollo, an altar, an hourglass, bas-reliefs and sculptures.
