Each of us from time to time asks the question - where to spend a vacation, which country to choose for the next trip? The very word "journey" is very strongly associated with foreign countries, but not with Russia. We think about traveling around the world, around the planet, about traveling to Mars, but not about Russia…

This is how our thinking is formed. In Soviet times, people thought differently - domestic tourists did not know foreign resorts, countries. All routes were the same and no one really complained - travel within the vast USSR ...

Was it correct and who was better off from these internal restrictions - the traveler or the state? These questions were relevant for that time. The state provided available cheap vacation, and domestic resorts and sanatoriums were always full ...

For example, my grandfather is a teacher, traveled the floor of the "union", adored Caucasian mountains- he was everywhere he had time to visit and all his travels were within the bounds of a huge country. Since 1991, the avid traveler has not been able to fly anywhere else ... I think now, he would sadly prefer traveling abroad to Russia. Cheaper.

Today, the limit of teachers' dreams is a vacation in Egypt or Turkey, because these are more accessible than domestic resorts. In addition, we, the Russians, have one peculiarity - when relaxing in Sochi or in the Crimea, we are damn tired of each other, and therefore, when choosing a foreign hotel from tour operators, we will definitely ask if there are many “ours” there ...

So why do most Russians strive to see the world, not wanting to take a closer look at the beauties of their country? Why, since 1991, domestic tourism has still not been able to get stronger and offer the domestic consumer something attractive and affordable. The very opportunity to relax is cheaper than in Egypt for the same teachers (who are not businessmen) and miners, for doctors and representatives of other professions, whose salaries, to put it mildly, are negligible - this opportunity would be a pleasant surprise ...

But today, with domestic tourism in Russia, everything is somehow sad. Instead of cheap and affordable tickets, there are resort fees that are about to take effect. Here is an excerpt from the local media:

So, the state took the path of developing the domestic tourism industry through the next collection of funds from the population. And instead of trying to lay routes outside the promoted "Golden Ring", instead of supporting domestic tourism, the state, as if deliberately alienates the domestic consumer from the vast expanses of our Motherland.

Today at the state level develop the most popular destinations, such as - Sochi, Crimea, Krasnodar. Other areas are more actively pursued by professional photographers, travelers and bloggers. It is they who offer to go on a trip around Russia, to those places that Rostourism has not even begun to develop and popularize. For example, the following destinations are popular with bloggers: Yakutia, Kamchatka, Magadan, Altai, Novosibirsk, Teriberka, Irkutsk… While Rostourism only plans to actively promote travel to Baikal.

What does it all say? - About the fact that specialized types of tourism are very poorly developed in Russia - spiritual, extreme, ecotourism, phototourism, ethnic, gastronomic, cinematourism ... Why does the Ministry of Agriculture not develop agrotourism? Why agritourism flourishes in Italy, Israel, Australia and other countries, where travelers tired of megacities are offered to become a farmer, fisherman or beekeeper for a week... There are many ideas. And if you don’t have your own ideas, there is nothing shameful to “lick off” (learn from experience) from those countries that have succeeded in this, and implement it in those regions where it will be in demand.

Key Development Issues domestic tourism in Russia:

1. Weak development of provincial tourism

We live in an era when tired residents of megacities are looking for bear corners to relax. A wooden house with a garden, a bathhouse and a barbecue area is much more attractive for them than a pretentious hotel with a conference room, elevators and a jacuzzi in the room. But the most picturesque Russian towns and villages are completely unprepared to receive guests. Meanwhile, even from the most ordinary village, it is possible, with an effort, to make an object attractive to travelers.

Iota and Roland joke that they are 144 years old between them, and believe that retirement is the best time for travel to . Read about how they traveled half the world and half of Russia in a camper in our material.

Such trips are not typical for the Germans, we are rather isolated representatives. We travel alone, on our own, by car. Many come here in groups and with a guide who goes everywhere with them, tells them what to do, where to go and where to go to the toilet! We are able to do it ourselves (laughs). This is our first campsite in Russia. We were on Lake Baikal, in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, then again in Kazakhstan. (laughs) We even speak a little Russian. We stop for the night at various parking lots, sometimes on the streets or in the mountains. We arrange a halt wherever you like.

We never buy food, like tomatoes, on the street!

It's better to go to the supermarket. Seeing that we are foreigners, sellers can overcharge, but we do not know how much it really costs! Many Russians calmly buy something in street stalls. We don't understand this.

There are no campsites in Russia, only truck stops. They are called campsites, but this is not at all the case. Terrible places.

We are lucky: there were no unpleasant situations. No one stole anything from us, did not break anything at night while we were sleeping. Whenever we wanted to stop, I approached the people in this place (hereinafter in Russian, Roland's quote is given verbatim): “Hello! Can you sleep here? What do you think? Ah, that's good! And this? It's not possible here. Okay, I'm going there!"

There are 2 types of Russian people, in fact, as elsewhere, the same is true here in Germany - educated and not.

Many are hospitable and open, you can approach any of them and say (hereinafter in Russian): “Hello! My name is…". And they will answer you with a smile! I always ask if they know German. We find a common language, start a conversation, talk about children... There are, of course, language difficulties. In Moscow, this is not a problem, but in the south, almost no one speaks English or German.

We have been traveling in motorhomes for over 15 years! Traveled through Germany, Great Britain, Italy. Germany is the best for camping (laughs), but we also like Austria. About 20 years ago we didn’t have a camper, we took a tent with us, stopped on the banks of the rivers, Baltic Sea. At that time, we still took children with us, and we did not have enough funds for camping by car. Now people sometimes come up to us and ask: “Can I have a look? I really want to see. Great! You have a toilet here too! You are an amazing people, the Germans!” But I think what's surprising?

What strikes people the most is that we are pensioners.

The question is often asked: “What is your monthly salary?” And if I say 500 euros, they will think that it is impossible to live and travel with this money, I will say 2,000 - they will consider the Germans millionaires. Therefore, I try to call the average number from 1,000 to 1,500, for example. And I think, I think, I think. (laughs)

Tell me, do Russian pensioners also travel if their means allow?

While you are young and working (or studying), you simply do not have free time for this! Three weeks in the summer is not much. In Germany, many people say: “How can you go to Russia? How is this possible? It's so far from Germany! Stay, you better stay! Or go to France, Great Britain, Spain, Italy!”. And I answer them: “I can go to Europe at least every day! It's very close. Russia is another matter." I don't know when I'll be able to drive thousands of kilometers on your roads again.

In the eastern part of the country, the tracks leave much to be desired, the same can be said about the Golden Ring. (further in Russian) Horror, horror, horror!

We like to get acquainted with your culture, look at your churches. We love to attend ballet, opera. On the way to Baikal, for example, we listened to a symphony orchestra in Irkutsk, in Krasnoyarsk we attended Tchaikovsky's ballet. And what picturesque landscapes! We like to observe how people live, to look at ancient buildings. We take a lot of photos. It seems to me that in 5-10 years it will be difficult to find some dilapidated building here. Everything will disappear! Every day new houses and skyscrapers are built, new streets appear.

Given the exchange rate, traveling in Russia is becoming more and more profitable. Moreover, they have always been no less exciting than foreign trips. The Village found out where to go besides the resorts Krasnodar Territory and the neighboring city where relatives live, and asked experienced travelers how to plan a trip and choose a route.

surfing in Russian coastal cities

All my childhood and youth I traveled exclusively in Russia - tents, kayaks, skis, backpacks and fishing. Were classic hiking in the mountains, extreme rafting on mountain rivers, historical trips a la gold ring. Wherever my next outing was planned - the Volga or Altai, Karelia or the Crimea - I knew that it would be insanely interesting, beautiful and new. It was with this mood that I expected and still expect all my travels. This year I want to go to Sakhalin and Primorye - to catch a couple of waves in the Pacific Ocean and eat crabs; I want to explore a couple of new surf spots on Ladoga and get to Gogland Island in the Gulf of Finland.

I can't single out any one trip. I traveled through the unique bottomless Baikal and adjacent inimitable rivers, rafting on a catamaran and trying to find waves for surfing, sailing along the Iovskoye reservoir, where I dived for a sunken motor and caught trout on a spinning rod - I remember it like yesterday. And last year's trip on a surfbus from St. Petersburg to Kaliningrad for the Russian surfing championship is hard to forget: many kilometers of beaches, the Museum of the World Ocean and the monument to Leonov, mountains of amber and waves.

It took me about 35,000 rubles (in 2009) for three weeks of rafting and hiking-excursion life with food on Baikal (in 2009), and a trip to Vladivostok last year for ten days cost me 30,000 rubles, 18 of which I gave for a ticket, buying it a couple of days before the flight, I lived with friends.

The main difficulty in planning a trip, especially for surfers, is the moments associated with choosing an airline: how to carry the boards to the end point and back, so that they don’t break, and not pay more for their transportation than the ticket itself costs. Organize a trip to popular place quite easy, but choosing exactly what you need is more difficult. Now the entire Internet is replete with many forums and sites on any topic: rafting, fishing, paragliding, and even surfing. Read, chat, delve into - and forward, towards adventure.

travels to Baikal, Kamchatka, the Urals and the Caucasus

I have been traveling around Russia since 2010, I managed to visit Baikal (visited the Eastern Sayan Mountains with the healing springs of Choigan and walked along the island of Olkhon), Southern Urals in national park Zyuratkul with a visit to Mount Big Iremel, in the Caucasus (Arkhyz region, then climbing Elbrus, the mountains of the Republic of Adygea also did not go unnoticed). In addition, I was in Kamchatka in South Kamchatka natural park and a little in the natural park "Nalychevo", in Altai and in the Khibiny.

I have been organizing tours for a group for two years, and the difficulties are the same everywhere. Transfer is always the most expensive and the most difficult to find. Everyone names prices at random, and if you search well, you can find acceptable ones. But it will take a long time to find. If you are traveling alone or together, then you don’t have to bother in advance, people often give you a ride, and so, for free.

And organizing a trip is not difficult if you have a) a head on your shoulders and b) travel experience. It is important to always think over the moments of a siding, leaving the route in case of trouble - all the moments of safety and life. If we talk about the difficulties that arise during the journey itself, then for me it is wild animals especially bears. Bad weather, sleet and wind have not stopped me yet.

The budget is highly dependent on the specific travel area. Flying to Kamchatka by plane and traveling by train to the Caucasus are two completely different prices. For one plane ticket to Kamchatka, I can travel for a month in the Caucasus and a month and a half in the Crimea.

In principle, I love traveling, and the region can be absolutely anything. We have a lot of amazing, beautiful and unusual things in Russia, so I decided to start my adventures from our country. It is difficult to say which trip was the most memorable: each one remained in my memory, I remember everything in the smallest detail. But in some places you want to return again and again. I have been to Altai twice and this year I will go to Elbrus and Adygea for the second time. I also really want to go to Kamchatka again, to the region of the volcanoes of the Klyuchevskaya group and to Altai. But it's hard to do it in one summer. In addition, I dream of visiting Sakhalin Island and the Kuril Islands.

often happens in large Russian cities

I am a skater and almost all of my work is related to skateboarding. Our occupation is closely intertwined with traveling, we go to competitions, organize tours, shoot videos, visit each other. I have been wandering around Russia and the world non-stop for the past seven years. I was in the North and the Caucasus, in Siberia and the Volga region, on Far East and in the Urals. I traveled the Trans-Siberian twice by train and covered tens of thousands of kilometers across Russia by car. In total, he traveled around several dozen regions and under a hundred cities.

Over the years, I want to travel around Russia more and more. Of course, in many cities and regions of Russia, the tourism infrastructure is still poorly developed, there are not enough modern hotels at a reasonable price, transport accessibility, often there is simply no information about what interesting things can be seen in a particular place. Nevertheless, if you are ready to put up with the discomfort and inconvenience in everyday life, then traveling around the country is very exciting.

Speaking of my favorite trips, I enjoyed traveling on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Taking a train in Moscow, after a while you can get to Mongolia, China, and even to Pacific Ocean. I liked it in Vladivostok, there is a port city, hills, bridges, ships, high water, port romance. It is very beautiful on the Kola Peninsula, the nature is no worse than in Finland and other Scandinavian countries. I like Kazan, Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk, Yekaterinburg, Novorossiysk. I keep coming back to my hometown Cheboksary and I advise everyone to this direction. Very picturesque, compact and cozy city on the shore big bay the Volga river. Around Moscow in the neighboring regions there are a lot of beautiful ancient Russian cities where time has stopped and you can relax from the bustle of the metropolis. Take a trip to Suzdal, to Rostov the Great. Despite the skepticism and ridicule of friends, a couple of years ago my friend and I had a very interesting trip to Dagestan. Old city Derbent is one of the most colorful cities in the country. Of future routes, I really want to travel from Moscow to Vladivostok by car, I also want to visit the lower reaches of the Volga (Volgograd and Astrakhan region), in Altai, in Kaliningrad, Yakutia is very attractive, but it costs a fortune to get there.

The cost of travel in Russia varies greatly. If we are talking about a short trip for the weekend, then the two of us can meet 5 thousand rubles. And if you are going to fly a helicopter over the volcanoes of Kamchatka, then prepare hundreds of thousands. It all depends on the route, the fare there from your city, your requests and comfort requirements. Relatively inexpensive gasoline, free roads and free parking (everywhere except Moscow) open up great opportunities for car tourism, but car wear and tear on our roads is quite high.

You can talk on this topic for a long time, it's better to try it yourself. To get started, choose a simpler route, come up with a trip for three to four days. This should be enough to understand whether such a vacation suits you or not. If you like it, then the largest country in the world is at your service.

goes on river boat trips in the Northwest region

My region is the North-West, specifically Karelia and the Murmansk region. I love traveling there primarily because of a large number interesting, but simple rivers (in the team we always had two or three beginners, with whom it was impossible to climb a difficult river), and secondly, because of the proximity, and, accordingly, the budget of the trip. I want to go to the Altai and the Sayans - this is the dream of any waterman.

Favorite route - Krasnenkaya - Kutsajoki - Tumcha, this is the south Murmansk region, near Kandalaksha. I have been there several times - the best river in our area, well, the company has always been excellent. The first time on the river was the most memorable: the weather was disgusting, it was almost freezing at night, everyone was frozen, they didn’t get out of the rain all two weeks, there were several overkills (turned over in the rapids: everyone is alive and well, but suffered). As a result, everyone still remembers and no one says that they will not go again.

If you exclude the purchase of equipment from the travel budget, and it is quite expensive and you need a lot of it, then everything is very inexpensive. The main costs are tickets, food (three to four thousand per person for two weeks) and pick-up and drop-off to the starting point (a taxi, in fact, but in e .... y and off-road, so it costs money). More than 15 thousand for a two-week trip did not come out.

You can organize your own trip. Six of us went on our first trip, and all were boobies with no water experience, and nothing, everyone was alive. You just need to carefully read what they write on the Internet, and have elementary organizational skills - so that the cars always arrive on time, and there is enough food. Difficulties with nearby routes are easy to avoid: for example, with border guards and the Ministry of Emergency Situations (many rivers flow near the borders), you need to agree in advance by phone and inform them upon arrival that you have taken the route.

I often travel to Russian cities, the budget is minimal, so my man and I recent times We prefer autostop. The last two routes: St. Petersburg - Veliky Novgorod - Moscow and Moscow - Rostov - Stavropol - Arkhyz. AT last time the impressions were the most memorable - new every minute. It is both interesting and not expensive. We have an amazing country, and the deeper you go into the villages, the more responsive and kind people are. I dream of going to Sakhalin, where my parents met, and to Yakutia, where my dad was born.

We save a lot on the road. Here, for example, on a trip to St. Petersburg - Novgorod - Moscow, we spent a total of 5 thousand in three days, and then because we spent the night in a hotel.

The main thing is to decide which route to go. Even in wild places you can find where to spend the night. But, of course, we are lucky with the weather, we try to ride in warm weather, without precipitation and frost. Drivers are always willing to share information about where it is better to go, tell what they know about the surrounding places, here you have a guide, transport, and kindness all rolled into one. Someone offers to sleep, someone treats, someone just tells funny stories. If you immediately say that you are hitchhiking, no one will think of taking money from you.

Once we used BlaBlaCar - a good service if you are not sure that hitchhiking will save you. So we drove from Moscow to Rostov. Loyalty of drivers depends on the location: the deeper the road, the more willingly you will be picked up. There must be pity or a keen interest in what the hell we're doing here. We always come across interesting and funny people. Even in the first hitchhiking, we realized: if the driver stops, he is a priori either moved to his head, or very kind. At night, these are most often truckers who are afraid to fall asleep, during the day - the Russian auto industry.

Employees of the NAFI Analytical Center conducted a study, according to the results of which it was found that when traveling long distances, Russians prefer to move around private car or the railroad. The only exceptions are residents of the capital and St. Petersburg. For long-distance travel they choose planes, and only then trains and cars.

Everyone tells the numbers

In general, in Russia, 20% of tourists for long trips choose to travel by their own car, because they consider this method the most comfortable. Almost the same number of people (19%) prefer railway, and only 11% fly by plane.

The situation is completely different in St. Petersburg and Moscow. In these cities, about a third of tourists fly by plane, 29% travel by train and 22% travel personal cars. Aeroflot remains the most popular carrier throughout the country. It accounts for about 50% of all flights. The services of S7 and Pobeda are also in demand (12% of passengers each). Russian tourists also use the services of foreign carriers.

Most people buy tickets online. Tourists also use online services to book hotels and pay for other services. On the Internet, people search for the necessary information about the city, from sights to hotel descriptions.

Russians began to travel more

It became known that in 2017 the number of tourists who spend holidays abroad increased by 7% compared to the previous year. More than 1.1 billion people took vacations abroad in 10 months. In addition, a report was prepared, which indicated that the spending of tourists abroad increased by 27%. upward trend tourist trips abroad is a simple proof of the improvement of the economic situation compared to previous years.
