“Overall, the hotel is good, although old. BUT there are problems."

1) The hotel has PERMANENT PROBLEMS WITH LIGHT, it is often NOT! They turn off during the day for an hour or two, turn off in the evening at 22 o'clock and until the morning until 6:30. This is a real problem and it is very annoying! During blackouts, neither the equipment can be charged, nor wi-fi does not work, nor can one read a book, and just going to the toilet is a problem - because the darkness is like in a cave at night. The light is turned off and on by the owner of the hotel: that is, if he goes to bed at 22 o'clock, then the guests should too. I went to the reception with this question - they told me about a fire in the hotel and problems with the generator and how expensive it was ... I asked to turn off the light at least at 24, and not at 22 o'clock - they nodded and still turned it off at 22 ... In general, like in a camp - the hotel has its own regime! Keep this in mind. 2) A couple of times there were problems with turning off the water. There are still small flaws that are not annoying, but just keep this in mind: 3) The rooms on the walls have a design solution in the form of holes, there are no nets on them and mosquitoes fly into the room through them. 4) Tulle over the beds and towels in the room and beach towels are very old, washed out and with holes. 5) The floors in the room are not washed, the socks immediately turned black. 6) There is no kettle, slippers, hair conditioner and TV in the room (in case this is important to someone). 7) I did not dare to climb into the pool, because the water in it is with leaves and looks dirty. 8) There are almost no other restaurants within walking distance.

In general, the hotel is good, albeit small and old and with some shortcomings (I indicated below what caught my eye). The staff is very friendly, welcoming, sociable and polite. In addition to the floor in the rooms everywhere is clean, tidy, beautiful. The beach in front of the hotel is cleaned from algae. The entrance to the ocean at the hotel without stones and corals, even at low tide the entry is good. The breakfasts are excellent (booked immediately with breakfast): on the menu (there is no buffet here), everything is very tasty, fresh, juices and coffee are also excellent. Hotel restaurant right on the beach great view. Dinner there for payment, the choice is not large, but everything is delicious. The hotel has a deposit - 5000 shillings (~$50) per day from the room.

Salt water at the tap. But the lack of proper running water is a problem throughout the coast of East Africa.

The hotel is located on the first line in the best part of Diani Beach. Very tasty food in the restaurant. The selection of dishes is small but exceptionally expertly prepared.

The hotel fully corresponds to its category (3 *). The staff is very polite. The rooms, of course, should be taken with an ocean view - quite large, with large verandas-balconies. The room has a hairdryer, air conditioning, a kettle. The bed is with a net, but there were no mosquitoes. shampoo is added every other day. There are ants in the rooms - they always give sprays for treatment. Doors and windows to the veranda must be closed very well - the monkeys skillfully open all the doors, steal everything, the monkey staff drives. The beach and the hotel area are excellent, sunbeds and beach towels are always available, you can swim all day (and at low tide). Restaurant: we were on FB. they cook delicious, sometimes you have to wait a little longer, not always all items are available. With FB, an order can consist of 3 courses (lunch-soup or salad + second + dessert; dinner-salad + main course + dessert, drinks all at an additional cost). WI-FI in the rooms is weak. For relaxation - we recommend! Feature (does not apply to the hotel) - there are a sufficient number of surfers on the beach, most of them follow the safety rules by not swimming in the swimmers' zone, but there are single individuals who violate the safety rules on the water. It's good that surfers are on the water only when there is wind.

Gloomy and not cozy rooms (in the photo it is lighter and more comfortable), it feels like you are in a cave. Very little light. Most of the furniture looks like carved in stone, not for everyone. If you spend little time in the room, it's fine. There is no TV which is very sad as the hotel is quiet and a TV would be great entertainment.

The hotel is very small, located a couple of steps from the beach (you can swim without paying attention to the ebb / flow). Restaurant at the hotel with delicious cuisine (we still remember the dishes) We took a full board and just ate too much because it’s impossible to resist! Lobster in tomato sauce, luxurious tuna, lobster chowder, shrimp, octopus 🐙, fresh juices for breakfast. There is no buffet system here , you need to choose menu items (lunch dinner: salad or soup, main course and dessert). Excellent cocktails based on natural fresh juices. Price quality. + the most important plus is the kitchen and the swimming ocean + beautiful beach🏖 Russian-speaking owner of the hotel (from Bulgaria), a very nice Masai warrior guarding the hotel from the scourge of fights and monkeys.

"We felt good"

Sometimes they waited a very long time for the order, especially during lunch. We regretted that we chose food 3 times a day, it is better to take 2 times, and eat fruit for lunch or go to another cafe. But while waiting, you can admire the ocean - the view is amazing. All drinks (except breakfast) have to be paid extra. When we stopped by for a few days there was breakfast " Buffet". Healthy, convenient, fast, delicious. But on the third day they introduced a menu system - the waiting time increased, we no longer saw hot pancakes, only cold or warm ones. Although I even asked for "please hot pancakes" once. It's better to return it as The specifics of the decor of the rooms. Kenyan style, at first it seemed that you live in a cave, again, it will be a plus for someone, but you have to get used to it. I really liked it on the third day. Not a perfect renovation, my inner perfectionist sometimes suffered. I would she said that the price is too high, but we took the hotel during the promotion period, so we were fine.I advise managers to improve their knowledge of mathematics, otherwise the management will go into the red :) but we were glad, paying less than necessary.

We liked! A cozy little hotel - there are few guests, for us it was a plus (but there are no mass events, entertainment, sports, dancing, as in neighboring hotels). You can walk very quickly from your room to the beach. The ocean and the beach are gorgeous, I liked the ebb and flow, the view is always different - either like a paradise picture, then the ocean is gone, but cool shells remain. Never stepped on or hurt anything, even if the water was cloudy due to the tide (but algae can be in the water). We took a full board - very tasty, for 9 days we barely had time to try all the variety of the menu. The banana split dessert with passion fruit is amazing. Portions are huge. They ordered a massage - very high quality, they would have taken more, but they were already leaving (but they do it on the street - it's better to do massage in the evening). Monkeys sometimes run around in the hotel - you don’t need to feed them, but you need to close the windows in the room, they are smart and can climb in. They climbed in and ate bananas. The staff is friendly, the coolest guy in the restaurant is Simon (Simon is the best!). There is also a very friendly Maasai working on the territory, but I never found out his name. I read bad reviews about the pool. Yes, small. But! It does not blow when it is no longer possible to lie by the ocean. Deep - you can dive. Two lights at night and the water is warm - nice. And the coolest thing is that you can swim even at night, if they were not closed for cleaning (with us, it was only closed once late in the evening - usually early in the morning). There are beach fights, we went on excursions cheaper with them. But if you immediately say that you do not need anything, they will leave behind. Next to a cool kite school! We didn't learn anything, but took the body board to ride the waves. In the states, every child has such a board - fun.

Construction at the hotel. Didn't warn. The whole day they knocked and sawed.

When it becomes necessary to transport a large number of vessels (provided that they themselves are not yet ready for launching), move a giant oil platform (for example, owned by the company British Petroleum Thunder Horse PDQ) or deliver a damaged military missile ship to the port (for example, such as the ship of the US Navy USS Cole), the unique MV Blue Marlin will come to the rescue.

1. The Blue Marlin is a semi-submersible transport ship.

2. Such sea vessels fairly limited specialization.

3. Semi-submersible transport ships are designed to move large-sized, heavy cargoes, for example, they can carry sections of offshore platforms and oil platforms, submarines, cranes, ships, berths, and so on. The Blue Marlin is equipped with 38 cabins that can easily accommodate 60 people, a gym, a sauna and a swimming pool.

4. The ship "Blue Marlin" has its own twin - the ship "MV Black Marlin". Both vessels were owned by a specialist in large-tonnage maritime transport of Offshore Heavy Transport, headquartered in Oslo, Norway, since their construction in April 2000 and November 1999 respectively. On July 6, 2001, both ships were purchased by Dockwise Shipping from the Netherlands.

When it comes to transporting a large number of ships, moving a giant oil rig, or bringing a damaged warship home, the giant Blue Marlin will become an indispensable assistant.

We already mentioned it in the compilation the biggest ships. The Blue Marlin is a semi-submersible heavy lift craft designed to transport very large drilling rigs, ships and other cargo. The ship is equipped with 38 cabins to accommodate 60 people, a warm-up room, a sauna and special flotation facilities.

The Blue Marlin and its twin, the Black Marlin, belong to the heavy lift class. They belong to a company from Oslo - Offshore Heavy Transport. Built in April 2000 and November 1999 respectively.

The US Navy has hired Blue Marlin to deliver the USS Cole Wuyekshnuk to the United States after it was damaged by an al-Qaeda suicide attack while anchored in the port of Aden, Yemen. During the last revision in 2003, the carrying capacity of the vessel was increased, as well as increased maneuverability and stability.

The ship re-entered service in January 2004. Following these improvements, Blue Marlin delivered a 60,000 ton Thunder Horse PDQ oil rig to Corpus Christi, Texas.

In July 2005, Blue Marlin moved the Snevit gas refinery from its site in Cadiz in 11 days. This vehicle was featured on the Extreme Engineering TV Show on the Discovery Channel, as well as on the Mega Movers program on the History Channel.

In November 2005, the ship left Corpus Christi, Texas to move the X-Group's massive naval radar to Adak, Alaska. The ship reached Pearl Harbor on January 9, 2006, having traveled 15,000 miles. In January 2007 Marlin was hired to move two rigs from Halifax Harbor to the North Sea.

Photographer Doug Perrin, who is the winner of the Photographer of the Year award Wildlife British Museum of Natural History, took some wonderful underwater shots off the coast of Baja California in Mexico.

The first photo is striking in how the photographer managed to find himself next to blue marlin the moment he puts the poor sardine on his nose before putting it in his mouth.

The blue marlin (Pacific Blue Marlin) was first described in 1802 as separate view belonging to the marlin family. There is still debate in scientific circles about the belonging of some subspecies to the blue marlin class, mainly based on some small distinguishing features. But it is unlikely that this is of great importance for the angler-sportsman.

Regarding big fishing - blue or blue marlin, this is one of the largest bony fish known to science, having an elongated upper jaw in the form of a spike. In the Latin name Makaira nigricans, the first word comes from machaera, which means "sword". Indeed, this long sword or spear, very strong, sharp and round in diameter, is used by him when hunting, and also serves to cut water when moving, increasing its speed characteristics.

Marlins are predators that feed on surface waters and are able to make long migrations in search of food in a short period of time. Blue marlin is an adventurous hunter. Its prey is mainly small tuna and squid. Also, its menu is complemented by other marine animals, such as lobsters, crabs and sea turtles. Many professional hunters have repeatedly noted the fact that, even when not hungry, blue marlin will attack their prey simply for the sake of the hunting process. Therefore, if a marlin suddenly appears next to the boat, in most cases it will attack the proposed bait.

Its habitat is not tied to the coast. Marlins are found both in the shelf zone of continents and islands, and in the open ocean thousands of kilometers from the coast.

The body structure of the blue marlin allows it to gain incredible speed in the water, which gives it the ability to hunt even flying fish that are inaccessible to most predators. The elongated upper jaw and folding fins create such a hydrodynamic body shape that allows it to accelerate to 100 km / h and more, which, combined with the size and strength of the blue marlin, put it at the very top of the ocean food chain. Not without reason, in the definition of this fish, some nationalities use the word "king". In appearance, it is probably difficult to find a more beautiful fish. A bright blue or light blue back, a shiny silver belly, a sickle-shaped tail and lower fins that look like airplane fenders - all this creates a unique elite image of this fast and very strong fish.

Blue marlin can reach a length of more than 4 meters and weigh about a ton. In the book of records of the International Anglers Association IGFA, specimens of 636 kg are registered in Atlantic Ocean and 624 kg in the Pacific. The rules for entering caught fish into this book are very strict, so not all records were included in official records.

In the press and fishing analytics, one can find evidence of the capture of trophies that exceed the weight of those appearing in official statistics, supported only by eyewitness accounts and photographs. But this information can also be trusted, because due to the huge range of its habitat, we most likely do not even guess what sizes blue marlin can reach somewhere in the middle Pacific Ocean where fishing boats and large fishing boats simply do not get.

In most countries, blue marlin fishing is regulated by local laws governing the release of all fish caught. The fisherman usually only has a photograph or a video clip as a memento of this trophy. At the same time, if marlin is still taken as a catch, many fishermen manage to try dishes prepared according to local recipes. Basically, it is cooked on the grill and the gastronomic value of its meat in terms of the balance of proteins and fats, as well as its special taste, is highly appreciated by gourmets.

Marlin hunting is a special class of fishing that has thousands of fans in the world. For this, people sometimes fly thousands of kilometers and surf the ocean for weeks on fishing boats. Among the famous fans of this fishing is the writer E. Hemingway, who dedicated his famous novel"The Old Man and the Sea", as well as the Cuban leader Fidel Castro. According to rumors, in Cuban waters, no one has yet defeated the famous "commandante" in terms of the number and weight of marlin caught.

Among trophy anglers there is the concept of "Grand Slam". This is a kind of fishing gradation, akin to the assignment of a "black belt" in karate. In order to get it, you need to catch a certain set of fish at a certain time and fix your catch in one of the specialized clubs of the International Anglers Association IGFA. So, in order to get this graduation at the Offshore Grand Slam club, in one day of fishing in the sea, you need to catch blue marlin, black marlin and a sailfish.

In different clubs, gravitating towards certain geographical latitudes and different seas-oceans, the set of fish species may differ, but blue marlin will always come first, as a symbol of real sea fishing. And this is no coincidence. The culmination of the blue marlin hunt is a spectacular fight with jumps, breathtaking "candles" and other acrobatic somersaults. The duel can go on for hours and the end of it can never be known in advance. A beautiful and powerful fish always fights to the last, giving the angler to fully experience all the delights and excitement of sea fishing in the Big Game class.
