Lijiang old town. Lijiang is China's most attractive city

Lijiang is a city in southwest China in the Yunnan province, located in the foothills of the Himalayas. Even in the old days, the city lay on the Silk and Tea Roads, travelers and merchants stopped here, settled, created families, so it became a trade and cultural center.

To be more precise, Lijiang is a large center with a population of 1 million 200 thousand people, and a small old City inside the big one is Dayan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Unfortunately, the Chinese do not see the difference between the old and the new, they easily demolish old buildings and erect copies in their place. The same thing happened to Lijiang, and on a citywide scale. So when you walk through the streets of the old city, remember that this is a fake, although it looks beautiful :-)

Old city

River in the center

The city is simply wildly popular with Chinese tourists, we did not meet a single foreigner, but the people on the streets, as in rush hour in the subway. However, despite such popularity, it is quite cozy here, it is very pleasant to walk along the narrow streets.

You can meet such food courts with all sorts of fried snacks - goodbye waist!

It was especially cool when we just arrived at 7 in the morning and walked through the labyrinths of the old city to the guesthouse - the city was just waking up, all the shops were still closed, and the dawn sun illuminates the roofs and paved pavements.

Yak meat and other products with it are popular in Lijiang. For example, yak meat candies and dried yak meat.

Rose filled biscuits

Yunnan is the birthplace of pu-erh tea, which has now become very popular in Russia. Puer here is simply heaps - the so-called "pancakes" and even trees from it are sold. True, such a tree will cost in the region of several thousand dollars.

In the old town, almost all houses are either a guesthouse or a souvenir shop. Moreover, there are several types of shops: jewelry, musical instruments, clothing and food. Oh, and travel agents offering trips around the area. All of this is geared towards local tourists They looked at us in astonishment.

souvenir shops

Ukulele and drums. What else is needed?

Lijiang reminded us of the atmosphere, there are also many tourists who, after dark, go to bars to relax and listen to live music.

Lijiang is a great example of how to make money on domestic tourism. We will not go into details, whether such a number of tourists is bad or good for the ancient city and whether the atmosphere is lost, the fact remains that 5 million people come here every year.

These places are home Naxi people who live in the foothills of the Himalayas in the provinces of Yunnan and Sichuan and have preserved their original way of life until now.

Grandmothers are talking about something

Surprisingly, matriarchy flourishes among the Naxi: since ancient times, there has been a custom of “coming husbands”, when people are calm about the fact that a man spends the night with his beloved, and returns to his home in the morning. While they "lived" together, the man supported the children, as soon as he left, then the support ended. And the children were always in the care of their mother.

Other local people

The Naxi people still use the endangered Dongba pictographic script, which was used in ancient times for reading ritual texts by priests. In fact, it looks like rock paintings.

The locals still live a normal life here, playing mahjong, carrying baskets of vegetables and herbs, washing clothes in the river. After all, as a rule, tourists gather in certain places, so even here you can be alone with the ancient city, well, or you can imagine it like that, because everything here was built 5 years ago :-)

If you climb somewhere higher, you can see how the city is covered with a continuous carpet of tiled roofs.

Landmarks of Lijiang

The sights of Lijiang are, first of all, yourself Old city, officially the entrance to which costs 80 yuan. We didn’t buy a ticket when we went to the guesthouse somehow didn’t pass the ticket office on purpose (or they didn’t work yet). Once we were asked about the ticket, we had to lie that we left it at the hotel, showing the key ... Chinese attractions are very expensive!

In the north of the city is Black Dragon Pool Park from where it opens beautiful view Mount Yulong Xueshan (Jade Dragon Snow Mountain).

View of the Jade Dragon Mountain from the city

In the vicinity of Lijiang is Baixa village, where the famous doctor Ho Shi Xu lives, who heals with herbs collected on the slopes of nearby mountains. Can also be visited with a day trip Shuhe town, which has a more relaxed atmosphere than its big brother.

Travel agencies offer trips to the snowy Mount Yulong Xueshan, but they are cosmically expensive, or Lake Lugu Hu, which is on the border with the province

But perhaps the most beautiful place near the city is Tiger Leaping Gorge which I was able to visit. Details will be in the next article.

And finally, here's a hello to you from carefree Chinese animals

How to get to Lijiang China?

The city can be reached from Kunming by plane, train and bus.

Lijiang airport is located 28 km east of the city and receives flights from Kunming, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Shanghai. The ticket search form is at the bottom of the post, you can use it to find cheap flights in Lijiang.

Bus station is located south of the old city and to get here, take bus 8 or 11 (double deck, 1 yuan) at a stop along Minzhu Lu. The cost of buses in different cities I can’t say, but I know that they are more expensive than the train. You can go to Kunming, Qiaotou (in Tiger Leaping Gorge), Shangri-Lu, Chengdu.

Railway station located far to the south, one might say on the very outskirts of the city. There are 7 trains a day from Lijiang. There are no direct routes to Beijing. Ticket prices for seat place 89 yuan, in the reserved seat - 152 yuan, in the compartment - 226 yuan. On the way, the train spends from 7 to 10 hours, there are night flights, so it's better to take them.

To get to the railway station from the center, take bus number 18 at south gate old city.

Preparing for our Chinese trip, for a long time I could not decide which of the cities to devote more time to - Dali or Lijiang? In the end, I decided to give preference to the latter, since he was honored to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. And I was wrong.

Lijiang is a city 500 km north of Kunming, lying in the foothills of the Himalayas. Once it was the capital of the Naxi (Nakhi) people, akin to the Tibetans. The city has a very well preserved traditional wooden building, which eventually ruined it. In recent decades, Lijiang has fallen victim to the wild crowds of Chinese tourists and has become one big souvenir shop under the patronage of UNESCO.

It was here that we first (and so far the only time) encountered Chinese tourism, senseless and merciless, about which we read and heard so much. Lijiang is one of the most favorite cities for Chinese vacationers, and there are thousands upon thousands of them.

On our first day in Lijiang, we couldn’t understand why Lijiang evokes such a feeling of cardboard crafts: well, yes, a lot of tourists, yes, solid restaurants and souvenir shops, but it was absolutely the same thing, after all.

Then it became clear: there were almost no local residents left in the city. They all moved to new areas, and gave their old "family estates" to be torn apart by hotels and restaurants. With them, all life left the city, only the scenery protected by UNESCO remained.

And even those, it must be said, are not guarded very carefully: every now and then on the streets of Lijiang you can see how some hotel is being built “as it was” instead of a demolished ancient house.

In general, the attitude towards antiquities in the East and West is radically different and it is difficult to say which one is better. In the West, it is customary to shake over every historical stone and carry out radiocarbon analysis until you are blue in the face, sometimes completely forgetting about its meaning, spirit and true place. I have always been left perplexed by all these “antiquities” taken away from museums, which, taken out of context, can only be of interest to scientists.

In the East, on the contrary, meaning is more important than form (we read Mishima's Golden Temple), so it is not customary to bother with the protection of monuments and their restoration. It fell apart - we'll build it even better!

Okay, I digress.

In general, Lijiang can be like this:

And there are still many secluded corners in the city where you can take a break from the noise of crowds of tourists and their kind pushes in the ribs.

But basically Lijiang is like this:

Therefore, so that too many extra people do not get into the frame, the lens has to be lifted higher =))

Here it is already very close to the real Himalayas, the snowy peaks are visible directly from the city. From Lijiang we will go there!

The fact that you are at an altitude of 2500 meters is reminded not only by icy nights and a blinding sun, but also by batteries of oxygen cartridges in every shop.

There are elevators in the canals - water-lifting wheels, almost like in, only smaller. Oh, what is there now in Syria ...

Passers-by are invited to correct their karma by ransoming a goldfish from captivity and releasing it into the canal.

Old Lijiang is in the "ring" of the new modern city. On the one hand, this is not noticeable from the narrow streets of Lijiang, on the other hand, you can always get out into a decent supermarket or go to the airport.

New Lijiang:

Old Lijiang:

To please tourists, in addition to the obligatory McDonald's (life hack: they give coffee there!), The city has several decent modern food courts with colorful and inexpensive food:

However, traditional Naxi cuisine, as befits recent nomads, does not look as appetizing. In the course of unpretentious swans woman:

They are sold everywhere on the street:

Here with a snack:

Something like pea jelly forgot what it's called:

And Tibetan food. Momo though they look somehow too Chinese (but with meat, hooray, and not with grass!).

But juvenile waiters in a Tibetan cafe are quite Tibetan.

Tourist shops, on the contrary, are not very original.

Do you still believe that Thai souvenirs are made in Thailand? Then we go to you!

Of the local specialties - yak in all forms. Yak combs:

Yak sweets:

And just a dried yak:

Nasi is very interesting and ancient people. They have the same ancestors with the current Tibetans, matriarchy reigns in Naxi families, they profess a religion close to Bon-po.

They also speak a language with a unique pictographic script, in which they even publish books.

It looks something like this:

Pictograms with translation. Well, everything is clear here:

And here it is without translation. Well, for those who do not know Chinese. What will be the assumptions?

In general, as you probably already understood, we did not like it at all in Lijiang. I won’t say that it’s worth skipping it at all, but there’s definitely nothing to do here for more than one day.

You can get to Lijiang from Kunming, Beijing, Chengdu and many other cities in China by plane - there is an airport in the city. The easiest way to come from Old Dali is by bus (from the stop at the Western Gate of the old city, travel time is about 3 hours), from New Dali - by train.

In the province of Yunnan, between the foot of the mountain and the river is comfortably located picturesque city Lijiang. It is also called " Chinese Venice”, thanks to the many channels that cut through the narrow streets.

Lijiang can be divided into two parts: the old and the new city.

Old part of the city was included in the list in 1997 world heritage UNESCO. The architecture of the old city is made in the traditions of China: tiled roofs with curved edges, carved doors and shutters. One gets the feeling that a talented artist wandered into such a wonderful place in order to paint buildings, cobbled streets, bridges over canals with strokes of gray-brown paint, and then, in contrast to this, put colored “blots” of flowers and trees. The mountain that rises above the city betrays a special entourage to the landscape. It is called "Jade Dragon Mountain". Snowy peaks are clearly visible from almost any point.

The antithesis of the old district is new part of the city. Modern buildings, crowded quarters, bustle, clear lines of streets - tourists can see such urban landscapes in almost every city in China.

Attractions Lijiang and adjacent territories are very interesting:

Yushui village.
Not far from Lijiang, there is a wonderful village called Yushui. The hospitable Naxi people inhabit these territories. Here you can fully get acquainted with the culture, life and traditions of the people.

Snowy Jade Dragon Mountains.
The peaks surround the city of Lijiang. There are designated areas for skiing and trekking around the Crouching Tiger Gorge. A section specially equipped with stairs will allow you to climb to accessible heights without much difficulty. Needless to say, what kind of view opens from these mountains? Of course, Lijiang from the height of the mountains looks like a small pearl in the middle of picturesque spaces. For the convenience of tourists, almost every store sells special oxygen cylinders that will make you feel comfortable even at high altitude.

Gorge of the crouching tiger.
The name is in the style of the peoples of China, it means nothing more than a deep gorge. Many routes run along the sights, either rising above the river or descending to the lower reaches. The nature of these places is filled with unusual plants and rare animals live here. There are campsites and eateries along the entire route.

The first bend of the Yangtze River.
This is the name given to the place where the Yangtze River makes a 90-degree turn and changes direction from south to east. It is extremely rare to see this in nature. The attraction is located 50 kilometers from Lijiang.

Plants fill the entire Lijiang, creating a pleasant spicy aroma in the air. The Chinese lanterns, customary for the country, serve as decoration of the streets. Swaying in the breeze, they drive away all evil from these places. The city is so cozy that you want to stay here for a few days, or even stay forever. Hotels and hostels open to holidaymakers all year round and provide an excellent range of all necessary services.

Lijiang, in my opinion, is worth a visit. If you are in China for the first time, you should like the style of the decoration of the old city. The old city in Lijiang is considered to be the place that originally served as the founding point of the city in the 7th-8th centuries and which was destroyed by the 1996 earthquake.

Lijiang sightseeing map

Below you can see a map of Lijiang city. Please note that when you click on some points in the description, useful information will be indicated.

Lijiang old town

After a powerful earthquake that brought destruction and casualties, it was decided to rebuild Lijiang. It was decided to make the old city in the traditional Chinese style, and the Chinese did not stint on design and lighting. The old city is good as in the morning when all the shops are closed and there are no tourists. So it is in the evening, when the city is lit up with night lights.

But don't expect authenticity here. About 5 million Chinese tourists flock to Lijiang every year, and it is on the domestic market that the profit is calculated. There are also foreigners, but walking around Lijiang, they drown in crowds of Chinese.

Separately, it is worth mentioning the Lijiang water supply system, built by Chinese craftsmen more than 1000 years ago. It goes from north to south, descending from the mountains, splitting into three water streams, after which it divides into many small channels flowing through Lijiang. Previously, it was of practical use, now it is rather a beautiful decoration of the old city. Walking in the evening, it is possible to light a candle through one of these channels and make a wish. All this for money, of course.

In general, with all the abundance of shops and shops, the choice in Lijiang is rather limited. Musical instruments, simple souvenirs, fabrics, paintings. After about half an hour of walking, you realize that the assortment is about the same from shop to shop. As for food, the same thing, everything is duplicated in numerous eateries. Sweets, meat products, cocktails and restaurants where you can spend the evening. Prices for everything are higher than the average in China. Indeed, they are not very different from tourist spots Celestial. Food compared to others tourist places, in which I happened to be, for a C grade. But maybe he just didn't find the right place.

Black Dragon Pond and Naxi Museum

To tell the truth, having visited Lijiang three times already during 2018, I never went to the Black Dragon Pond Park. As far as I know, you need to visit this place in clear weather, then you will see a pond against the backdrop of the Jade Dragon Mountain. But no matter how many times I was here, it was always overcast and cloudy. And paying 80 yuan just for a pond, I think it's superfluous.

If you drive from Lijiang towards the Black Dragon Pond, when you finish your tour and exit the north gate, you will be in front of the Naxi Museum. Today, the indigenous inhabitants of these places are becoming smaller and the Naxi culture is slowly fading into the past. There are 300,000 Naxi people living in and around Lijiang, which is a drop in the ocean relative to the Chinese population.

Interestingly, the Naxi still prefer to walk around in their national dress and in Lijiang you can meet typical representatives of these minorities. They can be distinguished by their black clothing with brightly embroidered patterns. As I said, the Naxi culture is in decline. The traditional art of embroidering pictures is almost forgotten and is supported by local enthusiasts (in fairness, it is worth noting that the local authorities are helping, but the problem is the disinterest of young people who are eager to big cities). Sewing machines have replaced the hand-made creation of traditional costumes, and the traditional rites of Dongba (priest and professor rolled into one) are also in less and less demand.

All this can be found in more detail in the Naxi Museum, where there are exhibits from the 10th-17th centuries found during excavations. There are examples of national costumes, the life and traditions of Naxi are shown. The museum also has examples of Naxi writing and books written several centuries ago. The museum itself is made very high quality, the information is duplicated in English. I highly recommend this place, just to understand where you came from and what kind of people originally inhabit Lijiang.

Baixa Village

Several times I came across judgments, they say, there is nothing ancient in Lijiang, for really ancient one you need to go to Baisha, which is 25 km from Lijiang. Well, in Baixa you won't find many really ancient things either. There is a museum of frescoes, there are only a few of them and they are practically in pitch darkness so that the light does not spoil the colors. The village itself was destroyed three times, during uprisings in the 19th century, the Cultural Revolution and the 1996 earthquake. Little is left of the present, mostly new buildings made in antique style. As in Lijiang, it is full of souvenir shops and everything related to tourism in China.

In the province of Yunnan, from those places where you managed to visit, an alternative to Lijiang, Baisha and Dali would suggest that you go to Shaxi. This ancient city, which was one of the most important points of the southern stream of the Great Silk Road. It is located between the cities of Lijiang and Dali. You need to get to it with transfers on buses and you can see Shasi, with proper planning, in one full day. chassis one of the best places in Yunnan province, in my subjective opinion.

If you have time to visit Shaxi, there is no point in going to Baisha village.

Jade Dragon Mountain is a complex of several places worth visiting. But you should be lucky with the weather, and this is in Lijiang, as life has shown, this does not always work out. There are 4 places to see:

  • highest point reached by cable car
  • meadow of yaks
  • spruce clouds meadow
  • turquoise lake

Let's go through each of the places. In one day, you can visit a maximum of three places, there is simply not enough time for all the places. First, how to get to the jade dragon mountain, how to buy tickets and rent clothes to climb the mountain.

How to get to Jade Dragon Mountain?

With groups, we get there by car, but if you are alone, you may want to take a minibus. The minibus is the only way to get to the entrance to the park. On the map, I marked the place where the drivers of minibuses number seven are on duty from 7.00-7.30, ready to take you to the place for 20 yuan per person. Everything would be fine, but they do not depart at a fixed time, but only when the car is full. As 6-7 people are typed, so they will move. In this case, you lose precious time that you can spend on visiting beautiful places. When I got there in this way, I had to wait 40 minutes until a Chinese woman came up, who was also going up the mountain, and we finally went for 100 yuan for two.

You buy a ticket directly to the park ten kilometers before the entrance to the complex itself. No matter what transport you use, there will be a special checkpoint where you will be offered to buy a ticket. Just in case, I advise you to take a passport. They didn’t ask me, but it may happen that they ask me to show it.

The road from Lijiang takes just under an hour and you find yourself near the ticket office. There will be two booths in total. If you stand facing the ticket office, on your left hand you can buy tickets for all selected places, cable cars and more. On the right hand there will be a clothing rental. The cost of tickets for each individual attraction is given below, and renting a waterproof and insulated jacket costs 50 yuan. You will also be asked for a deposit of 200 yuan. Upon return of the jacket, the deposit will be returned to you.

Cable car to the top

If you decide to start your tour of the park from the ascent to the top, the ascent, inspection and descent should take no more than four hours. That is closer to 11.00 you will be free. The height is about 4600 meters, so evaluate your strength.

The cost of the cable car is 160 yuan

Title in Chinese: Glacier Park

yak meadow

If the weather is not suitable for climbing the mountain, it makes sense to look at other places in the complex, they are also beautiful. I would recommend starting with the yak meadow, since all Chinese will rush to the lake or spruce cloud meadow first, simply because they are closer. You will go to the yak meadow and will be there either alone or with a small group of Chinese who will quickly fall behind during a walk.

It costs about four hours to visit the meadow. The bus will take an hour and a half in both directions to the cable car, 30 minutes for the cable car round trip and hiking route one and a half to two hours. Having overcome the bus and the cable car (the cabins of the cable car are open on this section), a walking route lined with wooden paths will open in front of you. The route is circular, just walk in a circle, look at the yaks and the surrounding landscape. If there is weather, you will see very Beautiful places. Otherwise, there will be fog. Everything depends on your luck.

The cost of the cable car is 55 yuan

The name of the yak meadow in Chinese: Yak Meadow (Maoniu ping 牦牛坪)

spruce clouds meadow

I got to the meadow of spruce clouds in bad weather and did not see the surrounding beauties. In fact, this place is just a green meadow, with goats grazing on it and noisy Chinese. Such meadows in Russia are a wagon and a small cart, so I will not recommend it. I don't know, maybe good weather the place is changing, but I can't believe it's better than other places in the park.

The cost of the cable car is 60 yuan

Name of Spruce Cloud Meadow in Chinese: Spruce Meadow (Yunshan ping 云杉坪)

turquoise lake

A place that I leave for a snack after visiting the above. This is the icing on the cake. Let it be touristy, let there be a bag of Chinese here, but the lake is really turquoise. Here you can make a circular route, cross the coast, stay away from the crowds, enjoy the beauty of nature. To get to the lake, just show the bus driver the name of the place and you will be taken to the right place.

Name of the lake in Chinese: Moon Valley

It is worth saying that the buses inside the park are free. The exception is white open cars, about eight people, going for short distances. They cost, if I'm not mistaken, 20 yuan and you can do without them. You will also be taken back to the city by minibus number seven, but they may ask for a little more than 20 yuan.

How to get to Lijiang?

There are many ways to get to Lijiang. If you are moving from Kunming, the fastest and convenient way will high-speed train, on the road for about two hours. The journey by bus takes about four hours.

There is an airport in Lijiang, so you can fly from other provinces of China by plane. You should not expect strong budget flights, but if you need to save time, this is the most reasonable option.

This concludes my review of the city of Lijiang and the Jade Dragon Mountain. Come to Yunnan Province, it's very beautiful here!

5 (1 voter. Vote and you!!!)

Lijiang (丽江) is a city in the Yunnan province of China. Located in the southern part of the country, on the banks of the Yulonghe River. It includes not only the city of the same name, but also nearby rural settlements, as well as a small old town Dayan. The ancient part of Lijiang is called Dayanzhen, it is she who is most interested in tourists who come here. The population of the district is 1.4 million people, the bulk of the local residents are Naxi.

Story

The city arose on this site thanks to the tea and silk trade routes passing here. Lijiang is the only one of all the ancient Chinese cities that is not surrounded by protective walls. On city pavements, colored pebbles have survived to this day.

The indigenous inhabitants of Lijiang, the Naxi people, still live in these places without losing their identity. They have preserved a centuries-old way of life, still live in ancient dwellings, dress in national clothes, use pictography for writing. Nancy carefully keep the ancient secrets of healing and magical rites. In Lijiang, you can hear music that was played thousands of years ago, see folklore ensembles performing folk dances. Visitors will be curious to visit the Dumba Culture Museum. Naxi cuisine also deserves special attention tourists.

Attractions

The nature of the province is very picturesque, because Lijiang is located in the foothills of the Himalayas. There are many rivers, lakes, parks and reserves in the vicinity. In the old part of Lizhan, classic medieval houses with tiled roofs have been preserved. The water supply system is also of interest to visitors. A city with a centuries-old historical and cultural heritage attracts tourists from different places.

Black Dragon Pond Park (Heilongtan (黑龙潭 )

The symbol of Lizang is a beautiful artificial reservoir in one of the city parks, at the foot of Elephant Hill. From Yuquan Park, the snow-capped Yulong Xueshan Mountain is clearly visible, it is also called the Jade Dragon Mountain. (玉龙雪山). old park was built in the 18th century. The water of the black pond has a dark color, which is given to it by the algae growing here. That is why the park has such a name. The famous snow-capped mountain is reflected in the transparent water surface. There are several architectural buildings on the territory: the "Dragon Spring Temple" and the "Black Dragon Palace". The Dongba Culture Museum is also located here.

Baixa Village

In this settlement, not far from the city of Lijiang, the Chinese healer Ho Shi Xu lives signs throughout the country. He heals people with herbs collected in these parts. In the ancient village of Baisha, several architectural objects of the 15th century with Buddhist frescoes have been preserved: the Dading Tower, the Dabaojigong Pavilion and the Dabaoji Palace. These are buildings from the Tang Dynasty. The Great Silk Road, as well as the ancient tea road, once passed through Baisha, the village played an important role in economic life provinces.

Shuhe town

The ancient city of Shuhe is known as the earliest settlement of the Naxi people. Here is the Center of Tibetan Culture. In ancient times, the area was famous for craftsmen who made a variety of leather products. Locality built at the foot of a mountain, between two rivers. One of the names of the place sounds like "a village at the foot of a high mountain."

Lake Lugu Hu

At the turn of the two provinces, at an altitude of 2.5 thousand meters, lies Lake Lugu Hu. It's deep Mountain Lake with the islets is known for its mesmerizing beauty and the local Mosu people living on its shores. Matriarchy still flourishes in the Mosu family, women raise children on their own, and fathers live in several families and appear only from time to time. The shores of the lake belong to two different provinces and both consider it their "pearl". Mountains surround the lake from all sides, creating a truly fabulous and unforgettable landscape.

Leaping (Crouching) Tiger Gorge

The gorge was formed between the Yulongxueshan and Haba mountains, at an altitude of 1.8 thousand meters. This is one of the deepest gorges on the planet. It includes 3 sections and a 13 meter Leaping Tiger rock. The legend tells that once a tiger, chasing his prey, jumped over the gorge, with the help of a rock sticking out of the water. There is a hiking trail around the gorge, along which there are places for overnight stays and cafes. The gorge is a natural monument of world importance and a UNESCO site. Endangered species of animals live on its territory and grow rare plants. Not far from the gorge is a national park.

Jade Dragon Mountain (Yulongxueshan, (玉龙雪山 ))

The mountain range with 13 peaks stretches for 35 km from north to south, 20 km from the city. There is always snow on top of it, and climbing from the foot to the top, you can trace the change of natural zones or, as the Chinese joke, “four seasons of the year”. One of the peaks of this famous snow-capped mountain can be climbed with the help of 2 lifts, one of them is the highest in Asia. From above, a breathtaking sight opens up: you can see the Yangtze River, the gorge and the glaciers lying on the mountain. These are the southernmost glaciers in the northern hemisphere. The traveler will also be pleased beautiful waterfalls and mountain streams. For local residents like to play snowballs on the mountain in winter, ride skiing and go hiking.

Also here all year round you can admire the amazing gala show that goes on daily. 100 riders and 500 actors are involved in an enchanting and exciting performance. The performance tells about the life and way of life of the indigenous peoples: Naxi, Dai and Tibetans. At the foot of the mountain is Yufeng Monastery.

Wangou tower

This is a wooden tower on top of a hill in Lijiang's Lyon Park, which is the highest in the country. The height of the tower is 33 meters, and a magnificent panorama of the surroundings is available to those who climb it. It was built in 1997, specifically to attract tourists. The construction is symbolic: 13 canopies of the tower symbolize the 13 peaks of Mount Yulongxueshan.

Wenhai village

The village is located at the foot of the Jade Dragon Mountain, at an altitude of 3,000 meters. This area is interesting for its diverse flora and fauna, variegated alpine meadows and a drying seasonal lake. There are 20 types of rhododendrons growing here, when they bloom these places look amazing. Wenhai Lake flaunts not far from the village, its shores are inhabited by various birds, so ornithologists often like to visit here. Hospitable Naxi live in the village.
