Rice in hand luggage. Is it possible to take my own food on a plane or carry food in hand luggage or baggage: fish, fruits, baby food, how and what can I bring? If justification is needed

Can I take food on the plane?

Having bought a plane ticket, many immediately have a question whether it is possible to take food on board or not. According to the rules of many airlines, you can take food on the plane, and not only bought in stores duty free duty free but also those that were taken from home.

With regular airlines, you don’t have to worry about food: at least you will be offered cookies and juice, and on long routes you will be served hot food, sometimes more than once.

Is it possible to take food in hand luggage on low-cost airlines?

The problem of food on the plane is relevant when flying flights low cost airlines or at promotional rates that do not include free meals. Their ticket price includes only the flight itself, everything else is carried out for an additional fee. Passengers can choose a dish from the menu during the flight, or order it ahead of time on the airline's website, which is cheaper.

Allergy sufferers are also in a specific position, since not all airlines can offer special meals. Therefore, if you need special meals or you are flying with a low-cost airline and do not want to spend money on expensive meals on board, take food with you. As a rule, such flights are short, up to 3 hours, so it would be prudent to throw dry rations or sandwiches into a backpack or bag, after comparing. Many airlines will provide you with drinking water free of charge.

What can you take with you in hand luggage?

  • biscuit
  • candies
  • chocolate
  • fruits and even sandwiches (without products with a pungent odor).
  • Lollipops or chewing gum will come in handy during takeoff and landing to avoid stuffy ears.

Do not forget to cut the products (vegetables, fruits, bread) that you will eat in the cabin or during the transfer, because in hand luggage knives are not allowed.

Rules for carrying liquids in hand luggage

AT hand luggage it is allowed to transport liquids if they comply with the standards:

  • the volume of containers for liquid cannot be more than 100 ml.
  • all containers must be in one resealable transparent plastic package, the total capacity of which should not exceed 1 liter.
  • each passenger is allowed to carry only one such package. This package must be presented separately at the security control desk.

Products related to liquids and gels:

  • yogurt
  • purees and pates
  • alcohol purchased from a Dute Free store and with packaging intact prior to arrival at the destination. The rules regarding the use of alcoholic beverages should be clarified directly with the airline.
  • soft cheese, it includes - brie, camembert, mozzarella, feta, etc.
  • canned food.
  • jam and homemade twists.

Therefore, liquid food is subject to the usual limitation: in a container up to 100 ml - you can, more - no.

When choosing food that is allowed to be taken on board the aircraft, it should be understood that it should be light food without a strong odor. Since the smell of a garlic sandwich will irritate several dozen passengers sitting with you in the same cabin. Do not take perishable foodstuffs on board the aircraft, which can cause stomach problems. It is also not recommended to take foods that crumble or can provoke gas formation: cabbage, eggs, broccoli, legumes, etc.

What foods should not be taken on a plane?

  • milk
  • kefir
  • seafood

Some airlines prohibit passengers from eating their own food and drinking their own drinks on board. This is what AirAsia, Tigerair, Scoot do. You can put food in your hand luggage, but according to the rules until the end of the flight, it must be in the backpack. Considering that no one is actually watching this, passengers calmly eat homemade sandwiches. At the same time, you need to remember that flight attendants have every right to ask you to remove your food or take it for the duration of the flight.

Therefore, before flying abroad, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with customs regulations visited countries. In particular, you will not be allowed into the Schengen zone with meat and milk products. In the US, any food is subject to declaration and many things are not allowed to be imported, for example, fresh and dried meat or boiled eggs.

Airplane food for kids

The allowance for carrying baby food in the cabin is determined by the airlines. We advise you to check with your airline representatives whether it is possible to bring baby food on board. As a rule, drinks and food for children under two years of age are not subject to the general limits on the transport of liquids. This means that you have the right to take as much water, milk, milk formula and baby food for a baby (up to 2 years old) as required for the duration of the flight, taking into account transfers. In case the containers exceed 100 ml, this will not be a violation. Flight attendants, at the request of passengers, heat food for children.

Now you know that when flying with low-cost airlines, it is not necessary to starve your body, due to the strict rules of airlines. Save this list for yourself and share with your friends!

Hand luggage on the plane

Hand luggage is your unchecked baggage, things that you take with you on the plane.

Lounge ticket holders economy class can take 1 piece of hand luggage on board, business and first class passengers 2 pieces each.

The allowable size of hand luggage, as a rule, is: 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm or 115 cm in the sum of 3 dimensions.

The allowable weight depends on the airline, type of aircraft and route, below are the allowable weights of one piece of hand luggage for some airlines:

Airline Carry-on baggage allowance
Lufthansa 8 kg.
KLM 12 kg.
Russia 8 kg.
Aeroflot 10 kg.
Air Baltic 8 kg.
Air Berlin 6 kg.
Austrian Airlines 8 kg.

Baggage, the dimensions and weight of which do not fit into these standards, is transported in the cargo hold.

Many have already heard that there are certain restrictions on carrying liquids in hand luggage.

Liquids (including creams, aerosols and gels) may only be carried in hand baggage if they meet the following requirements:

The volume of containers containing liquids must not exceed 100 ml. (i.e. even if the liquid itself is only 50 ml., The container in which it is located should contain no more than 100 ml. To prevent disputes with the security service, it is recommended to use liquid containers (tubes, jars, etc.) with indicating their size).

All containers should be stored in one resealable transparent plastic container. The total capacity should not exceed 1 liter. (i.e. you can take 10 bottles with a maximum of 100 ml each)

Each passenger is entitled to carry only one such package.

Packaging with containers containing liquids must be presented separately at the security control desk.

Medicines (provided that you have a prescription or a doctor's note with you) and baby food that you may need during the flight can not be placed in plastic packaging, but they must be presented to the security service. Be prepared to be asked to open baby food jars and taste the contents.

Goods purchased in Duty Free

When traveling within the EU: You can purchase liquids (spirits, perfumes, etc.) at Duty Free or on board all European airlines. The liquids you purchase will be packaged and sealed. If you are on a connecting flight, sealed liquids must not be opened until you have arrived at your final destination.

If your journey starts outside the EU and then you transfer to a connecting flight at an airport in the EU, then you can also carry liquids and gels purchased in Duty Free outside the EU.

Note! The authorities of some states, such as the Netherlands, prohibit passengers, when transferring to a connecting flight at an airport in the EU, to carry liquids bought in duty-free shops outside the EU.

It is allowed to carry liquids purchased in Duty Free shops at the following airports in hand luggage:

All airports in Canada
All US airports
Kuala Lumpur
Singapore
Croatia: Dubrovnik, Pula, Rijeka, Split, Zadar or Zagreb

Items prohibited for carriage in hand luggage.

These items include:

Liquids, except for liquids in small quantities and packed according to the rules above.
Animal products (dairy products, meat, cheese). This requirement does not apply to passengers departing from Switzerland, Andorra, Greenland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, San Marino and the Faroe Islands.
Weapon
blunt and pointed objects
Explosive, flammable, chemical and toxic substances

In addition to your carry-on baggage, you can take the following items into the cabin with you:

- a handbag (including a bag for a laptop);
- coat, shawl, plaid or umbrella;
- a laptop, a camera (a tripod is usually asked to be checked in, but some airlines allow you to take it in hand luggage if its length does not exceed 60 cm when folded) or binoculars.
— a reasonable number of printed publications to read during the flight;

- a portable cradle / chair or stroller weighing up to 10 kg.
– crutches or other necessary orthopedic devices

Perhaps not everyone knows about this, but you can take food on board the aircraft, and not only that which was bought in Duty Free before landing.

Knowledgeable tourists take with them not only chocolates and cookies, but also sandwiches and other homemade preparations.

There are only restrictions on drinks, but flight attendants carry them anyway, unless you fly on low-cost airlines, where you have to pay for tea or juice.

It is advisable to take protein-rich foods with you: chicken, beef, cheese, nuts. Choose products that do not have a strong smell, which will not crumble much and will not deteriorate during several hours of flying and waiting at the airport.

For a snack, a mixture of nuts and dried fruits, sandwiches or a salad in a container are perfect.

Avoid strong-smelling and gas-producing foods (onions, garlic, fish, beans, broccoli) and fatty foods. You can ruin your stay on the plane not only for yourself, but also for numerous neighbors.

Remember that liquids, including gels, are prohibited for transportation. Except when they comply with the regulations:

The volume of containers should not exceed 100 ml.
All containers should be stored in one resealable transparent plastic container. The total capacity should not exceed 1 liter.
Each passenger is entitled to carry only one such package.
Packaging with containers containing liquids must be presented separately at the security control desk.

What of the products refers to liquids and gels? The list is not very long, it includes: yogurt, sauces (for example, for salad), cottage cheese, peanut butter, jam, jam, jelly, soup. But not everything is so simple, no one will definitely answer the question of whether it is possible to take a pie with creamy filling or a cake with you. This will depend on the decision of the security service.

All products must be carefully packed in transparent bags or containers so that security personnel can see what is inside.

And one more piece of advice, before you lay out the food you brought with you on the table, cover it with a napkin. You don't know who was sitting here before you and how long ago it was cleaned.

What food to take on a plane

Food on planes often leaves much to be desired. Heartburn-inducing chicken pasta and insanely sweet chocolate waffle for dessert are unlikely to whet your appetite, and you can only eat this when you are very hungry. Meanwhile, it will not be difficult to pack a bag of tasty and healthy food with you on the road, the main thing is to have a clear plan. And then you can not think about whether food is included in the cost of the flight, and not worry about its quality. The same stock can save on long flights, when a significant time passes between two meals. So, what can you use with pleasure and comfort during the flight.

Fruits are perfect both as a dessert and as a way to quench your thirst. The main thing - do not take with you those that need to be cleaned. Dirty hands, splashes on clothes, and an extra load of skins are not what you need. It is best to bring seedless grapes or any other berries, as well as apples. All this must first be washed, dried and it is best to put it not in a bag, but in a plastic container with a lid.

Mix of nuts and dried fruits

Of course, there are ready-made mixes in stores, but usually they will contain something that you don’t like at all and end up in the bottom of the jar, so it’s better to make dry rations from what you love. For example: mix a glass of roasted seeds without husks, a glass of dried apricots or prunes, half a glass of nuts (almonds or hazelnuts) and a couple of handfuls of dried cherries. All this, again, is more convenient to place in a plastic container, since plastic bags tend to open, tear and crumble at the most inopportune moment. And yes, they are awkward to put on the table.

small carrots

This tasty and easy-to-transport root crop is often forgotten, and in vain. Firstly, they are very good to crunch during takeoff or landing, because. it does a great job of keeping the ears out. Secondly, carrots satisfies the desire to constantly chew something out of boredom, without harm to the figure. And, finally, if you take some sauce with you, you can perfectly dip the root crop into it and get almost a restaurant snack. The main thing is to wash the carrots in advance. By the way, in the season, carrots will be a good substitute for small cucumbers, the main thing is to find tasty and fresh ones.

Not necessarily, but people who are used to eating sauces, take one or two sauces with you. These can be small boxes from McDonald's. But remember that the carriage of liquid substances on the plane is limited.

Crackers, breadsticks or FinnCrisp brought from home are great snacks. The main thing is to choose a not very crumbling option.

Muesli bars

If there is no time to collect food for the road at all, take a variety of muesli and dried fruit bars with you. There are a great many types of such bars for sale, and you can buy them not only in the supermarket, but also in almost any pharmacy.

inedible items

Of course, you should definitely take wet and dry wipes with you, which will definitely find a use. If there are shops in the sterile area, you can also take an empty camping water bottle with you and fill it with your own mix, the ingredients for which can be purchased after the security check.

And many more people on the plane really want to drink, but you can’t take a lot of liquids, you can take liquid with you in your luggage. But you can take juicy fruits and an empty bottle.
And fly with a bottle, which is already filled at the airport, after all the checks. You can ask the stewards for water. Dehydration is terrible, so the more you drink, the better.
You can take apples and bananas.

Advice - take dried fruits, nuts (preferably not peanuts, so that your neighbor does not start Quincke's edema: () Take sandwiches that are individually packaged, with chicken, ordinary, not smelly cheese. All kinds of bars.

And don't forget to bring an empty trash bag!

Can I take a laptop on the plane?

Many of us take laptops with us on a trip or a business trip, but not everyone knows how to properly transport them on an airplane.

There is nothing complicated here, the main thing is to remember a few rules.

First and foremost, never check in your laptop as luggage. There are three explanations for this, firstly, as we have written many times, it can simply be stolen, especially if you are flying with a transfer. Secondly, no one will treat your suitcase like a crystal vase, bags are thrown, stacked on top of each other, etc. This can lead to both damage to the matrix and the motherboard, not to mention a crack and dent in the case. Thirdly, according to the rules of aviation security, devices containing lithium batteries must be in the cabin. This type of battery is considered a fire hazard, and if they are in the cabin, flight attendants will be able to react in time if the battery suddenly ignites.

Second, don't put your laptop in the luggage rack. If the shelf is half empty, then during takeoff, landing and turbulence, the computer may be damaged. Put it under the seat or in the pocket of the seat in front.

The third rule concerns the passage of security screening at the airport. You should take the laptop out of the bag and put it in a separate container. The power cord, mouse, discs and other accessories must be scanned separately from the computer.

To simplify the passage of the inspection, there are special bags from which it is not necessary to get the computer during the inspection. They are of two types:

A regular case that fits only a laptop and nothing else
A bag that unfolds like a butterfly, on one side is a laptop, on the other are accessories and other things:

laptop screening at airport laptop screening at airport

The main requirement is that the bag should not have any decorative elements (locks, hooks, etc.) that interfere with the inspection.

By the way, according to the rules of most airlines, the weight of a laptop is not taken into account in the total weight of hand luggage. It refers to personal items that you can take with you in addition to your bag.

The fourth rule concerns conduct on board. It is not recommended to turn on the laptop during takeoff and landing. It is believed that electronic devices may interfere with on-board communications and other aircraft instruments. The second reason they are asked to be turned off and put away is that if the aircraft makes sudden maneuvers, they can fly out of their hands and injure other passengers or damage the aircraft cabin.

based on blog.kupibilet.ru

Another common question among passengers is whether it is possible to take food in hand luggage on the plane. Such doubts torment almost all beginners traveling for the first time, but sometimes disputes arise between experienced travelers.

In order not to make a mistake and not stay on board without food during a long flight, you should think through and provide for many nuances. It is better to inquire in advance about the norms of the countries between which the flight is made, customs prohibitions and separate rules set by the selected carrier.

Standard Requirements

The journey may take different times. In some cases it is 2-3 hours, in others it is much more. Add to this the period of waiting and check-in at the airport and the road to the destination in a particular city, the tourist finds himself in a quandary. All this time you need something to eat and drink. And if you are traveling with a child, then the issue of nutrition becomes even more acute.

Most airlines offer in-flight meals, but only on long flights that last longer than 3-4 hours in a row. Many passengers want to eat more often, especially if they are forced to adhere to some kind of therapeutic diet. And there is not always a desire to buy ready-made products on the plane, the cost of which is much higher.

vybratpravilno.ru

In this case, you must always have an affordable snack on hand so that you can eat calmly and replenish your body on the road, at the airport, during a transfer or during a flight. But at the same time, you need to take into account many nuances in which a beginner is not always oriented.

The good news is that without alcoholic drinks on board the aircraft, for the most part, remain available and free of charge. And if necessary, dilute the dry product, you can ask the flight attendant for hot boiled water.

First you should clarify which flight awaits you - international or domestic. So, if you do not have to cross the border Russian Federation, then you can take almost any snack on board the aircraft. Bans are imposed only within individual airlines, which may differ for each carrier. It is better to clarify such nuances on the official website of the company.

If it is supposed to cross state border, then in addition to the restrictions that apply within the airline, you need to take into account more stringent customs rules. Indeed, in case of any violation, the acquired goodies will have to be left to the airport employees as a gift. Particularly strict in this regard are countries such as France, Sweden, the United States and China.

Among the general standard rules, the most common are bans on fish, meat, dairy products and eggs across the border. It should also be clarified whether this moment any quarantines that occur periodically in exotic countries. In the case of epidemics, the rules can become even stricter.

Most airlines don't mind if passengers eat on board. And if a person, for any reason, refuses the free food offered on the menu, or must adhere to a therapeutic diet, then he can independently provide himself with food for the duration of the flight. But at the same time, certain rules must be followed.

Liquids

Separately, it is worth clarifying the norms for carrying such substances in baggage or in hand luggage. This category includes not only water and other drinks. In this case, all pureed mixtures, jams, pates, curd desserts, jelly, honey, caviar, fermented milk products, canned food, first courses, soft cheeses, butter, sauces, etc. are considered liquids. Creams, medicines and cosmetics are also included here.

They are subject to special restrictions. So, liquids can be brought into the cabin, but only packed in 100 ml containers and placed in a special transparent bag with a zipper. Total such products should not exceed a volume of 1 liter, that is, 10 jars.

If you want to carry, for example, canned food across the border and not consume it on the plane, then it is better to place this cargo in the luggage compartment in a common suitcase. Just make sure they are neatly packaged. When transporting cans or other fragile containers, you must stick a special tag on your luggage before boarding.

Other nuances

Separately, it is worth considering this issue in the context of sports, dietary or baby food. Babies up to two years old on almost any flight can be fed with special mixtures, which, although they fall under the category of liquids, are not taken into account in the total amount of hand luggage carried.

On internal and international routes you can take with you to the cabin for children:

  • milk mixtures, which are diluted with hot water by asking the flight attendant for it;
  • juices, purees packed in factory-made containers with a special marking confirming that this product belongs to baby food;
  • snacks and snacks in the form of cookies, crackers, dried fruits;
  • fresh fruits;
  • fermented milk products (kefir, ayran, fermented baked milk) in small jars of 0.3-0.5 liters.

Such baggage will not cause discontent among airport or airline employees. But you will definitely clarify whether this food is intended for the child. Please note that it is also possible to order baby food on board the aircraft. For children under two years old, it is listed on the menu as BBML, and for the age of 2-12 years old - CHML. Particularly strict to baby food are only in China. There, a child who has reached the age of 5 years is considered an adult and no exceptions to the rules are foreseen for him.

Separately, it is worth remembering that if such products need to be stored in a refrigerator or freezer, then they may not be allowed on board the aircraft. On the road for a child, it is better to take the food that does not spoil, so as not to risk his health.

They are more loyal to dietary nutrition. If a person has a medical certificate on hand, which states that he needs to consume certain foods or medicines at specific intervals, then they will be allowed to take these products or medications with him.

What can you take on the road?

We list what foodstuffs are allowed to be carried on the plane:

  1. Sandwiches and sandwiches packed in a special lunch box or cling film.
  2. Dry snacks in the form of snacks, cookies, but without hot spices and bright flavors.
  3. Chocolates.
  4. Dried fruits.
  5. Fresh fruits and vegetables, but always pre-cut, as you can’t take a knife on board the plane.
  6. Lollipops, candies, chewing gum.

It is important that these products are convenient to eat during the flight, and their smell does not interfere with the surrounding passengers. Make sure that the total amount of hand luggage, along with food, does not exceed the established norms of the carrier whose services you are going to use. Note that low-cost airlines usually have much stricter restrictions on this.

It is also allowed to take with you, in addition to hand luggage, food and drinks from Duty Free shops. But in this case, you will have to make sure that they are not unpacked and consumed on board the aircraft until the end of the journey. And while some airlines do not object to the passenger eating purchased food, most of them do not support such a practice. This is especially true for drinking alcohol during the flight.

Prohibitions

Before carrying food in hand luggage, you need to take an interest in all existing rules. These include the general conditions of air travel, individual requirements and restrictions from specific carriers, as well as customs regulations. We should not forget about human relations, ethics and morality.

So, do not take on board the aircraft:

  • meat;
  • fish and caviar;
  • milk products;
  • eggs;
  • various jams and other liquids packed in large containers;
  • canned food;
  • any perishable products;
  • snacks that have a pungent smell and aroma (garlic, durian, onion);
  • vegetables and fruits subject to quarantine conditions.

Sometimes temporary bans are imposed even on tea, herbs, nuts. In Russia, there is a restriction on the export of fish and caviar. Soft cheeses, sausages, exotic fruits are best transferred to the general luggage.

Video: what can I take in hand luggage?

How to decide what to take with you on the road? Go through each item:

  1. If this international flight, make sure to check the customs regulations for each country you are flying from and going to. The rules for the import and export of luggage and hand luggage may differ, but all requirements must be taken into account.
  2. By going to the official website of the carrier, you can review the nuances indicated for the transportation of products and other things, both on board the aircraft and in the luggage compartment. If you wish, you can order from the available menu any meal that suits your needs. For example, Aeroflot provides the widest range of dishes.
  3. If these are liquid products, pack them according to the requirements and make sure that the total volume does not exceed 1 liter.
  4. If you need to take baby food with you, check if it can be taken separately from hand luggage, not taking into account the weight of the jars. And also choose the food for the child that will not deteriorate in flight and does not require special storage.
  5. Keep in mind that the total weight of hand luggage, including groceries, must comply with the requirements of the particular air carrier. If the dimensions are larger, you will have to leave food at the airport or check it in as luggage.

Try to limit yourself to products that are not in doubt and take advantage of the opportunity to eat on board the aircraft from the menu offered by the airline. So, you will avoid unnecessary questions, disputes and problems and will not remain hungry.

Almost every one of us flew on an airplane, while packing a suitcase, thinking about what you can or cannot take in your luggage and hand luggage from things or products on the plane. In this regard, the idea arose to collect frequently asked questions on hand luggage in one article, and write in detail about what from the following list can be carried in hand luggage. Updated as of July 2019.

The first article I wrote about carry-on luggage and luggage prompted me to collect such frequently asked questions, you can read it by clicking on the following link:

NEW RULES (changes), which were included in the Air Code of the Russian Federation and entered into force on October 05, 2017, touched a little hand luggage, as well as luggage on non-refundable tickets. In the fall of 2018, changes were made to the federal aviation rules (FAR) and also affected the baggage rules. NeitherThe information provided is correct as of July 2019.

It is important to know before the flight, the general hand luggage:

  1. Liquids can be taken into the aircraft cabin (in hand luggage) only in jars that do not exceed 100 ml, and in the total volume of such jars there should be no more than 1 liter, packed in a transparent bag with a zip fastener (see photo below).
  2. If the air carrier allows you to carry this or that thing, item, product in hand luggage (and in luggage), then the customs of the country where you are going to fly may not let your things through, so be sure to check the customs regulations of the country where you are flying abroad.
  3. Products of animal origin it is forbidden to carry on quite a few airlines - for example, this can be animal fur, ivory, bear bile and much more.
  4. Since March 2009, it has been prohibited to enter the territory of the EU countries import dairy and meat products in luggage and hand luggage. Exceptions are: children's and special diet food prescribed for medical reasons.
  5. According to paragraph 135 of the Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) as amended on 05.10.2017- in addition to your carry-on baggage and your luggage, you can take all the items listed below one copy free of charge (these are the things that which are allowed as hand luggage in excess of the norm, established by the carrier in accordance with the Federal Aviation Rules, and without charging an additional fee, the passenger has the right to carry the following things), i.e. for one person in the aircraft cabin, you can take all of one item from the list below without additional payment, namely:
  • backpack, the weight and dimensions of which are established by the rules of the carrier, or a handbag or briefcase with things invested in a backpack, or a bag, or a briefcase;
  • bouquet of flowers;
  • outerwear;
  • baby food for the child during the flight;
  • suit in a suitcase;
  • baby carrier(cradle, restraint systems (devices) for children under two years of age, baby carriage and other devices) when transporting a child, the dimensions of which are established by the carrier's rules, and allow them to be safely placed in the aircraft cabin on a shelf above the passenger seat or under the seat in front passenger seat;
  • medications, special dietary needs in the amount required for the duration of the flight;
  • crutches, canes, walkers, rollators, folding wheelchair, used by a passenger and having dimensions that allow them to be safely placed in the aircraft cabin on a shelf above the passenger seat or under the seat in front of the passenger seat;
  • goods purchased from duty-free shops at the airport packed in a sealed (sealed) plastic bag, the weight and dimensions of which are established by the rules of the carrier.

    And I will notice from list at the time of the adoption of the changes on 10/05/2017, the following disappeared: a video camera, a camera and a computer. In theory, now it turns out that they need to be stuffed into the allowed hand luggage so that they do not turn out to be an extra seat for which you still have to pay extra.

Every time you fly by plane, however, and during other trips, you should not forget about your safety and the safety of your luggage. The main difference between airplanes and other transport is that you do not see most of your luggage and cannot guarantee its safety, which is why we try to take everything valuable and important with us into hand luggage, carrying many kilograms. However, for quite a long time there has been a much more convenient solution - this travel insurance, which often includes the risks of loss and damage to luggage. The simplest insurance can be bought without leaving your home, spending about 700-900 rubles, for this money in case of force majeure you can count on significant compensation, both in case of loss of luggage and in case of not flying, and if you pay a little extra, then on compensation for medical services in a foreign country for the entire duration of the vacation.

What you can take with you on a plane and what not

Liquids in hand luggage on board

I must say right away that any liquid carried on board the aircraft is checked and, in case of non-compliance with the rules, they can be taken away (not allowed to be carried on board). And the rules in most Russian airlines, and even foreign ones, are such that any liquid in hand luggage should be in jars that do not exceed 100 ml, and the entire volume of such jars should be no more than 1 liter, packed in a transparent bag with a zip fastener. I note that you can not take a capacity exceeding 100 ml. (i.e., a 200 ml jar, for example), and pour the prescribed amount of liquid there, not more than 100 ml, such a container, along with the contents, will be removed during the check.

So let's see if the following liquids can be carried in hand luggage:

  • Water in hand luggage- no, you can’t carry it into the departure area in hand luggage, usually they ask you to put it in the inspection area. The exception is people who have certificates of unfavorable health, for whom water is vital, for example, diabetics. Sometimes there are exceptions. They let us in with water, but this can be attributed to human factor(kindness of the inspector, not strict instructions of this or that airline, etc.). Water can always be purchased in the departure waiting area or asked for already on board the aircraft, as well as carried on board in containers of no more than 100 ml. and in a total volume of not more than 1 liter.
  • Alcohol on board- you can’t carry it in hand luggage (it’s better to check it in luggage), with the exception of purchases made in Duty Free. However, you ask me, why not pour alcohol into 100 ml bottles. (and such bottles are not more than 1 liter) and try to take it in your hand luggage, then I’ll tell you, try it and write in the comments later if it worked out, because we didn't do that ourselves. Duty Free is a duty free shop where you can buy alcohol (no more than 2-3 liters per adult, but in different countries there are differences) and tobacco (no more than 400 pieces or 2 blocks), as well as other goods at an affordable price. Alcohol can be bought after passport control, but only if you are flying non-stop, that is, on a direct flight and after the purchase you will arrive at your final destination, otherwise it may be confiscated at the next inspection. If you are flying with transfers, where you need to pass again passport control, then alcohol purchased at Duty Free will already be a prohibited item, and it would be better to put it in your luggage (if you received it during a transfer, but this does not always happen). Sellers in Duty Free seal your purchases in a bag along with a check, so it’s better not to open it on board.

Since January 01, 2017, the Internet has been filled with information about the ban on the import of imported alcoholic beverages into Russia. I want to dispel your doubts about whether or not to bring alcohol to Russia in 2017. According to the latest data, it was clarified directly from the Domodedovo customs (florid, with articles indicated and not very direct), but what, you can bring 2-3 liters of alcohol to your relatives, as before in checked baggage or purchased in duty free. To exceed the established bans on the volume of purchases in Duty Free, as a rule, airline employees are indulgent, because this is also part of the airline's income from the sale of goods.

  • Baby food to take on the plane– you can carry on board the aircraft as much as you need in flight, and it is not subject to the 100 ml limit. (no more than 1 liter), because it is vital for the child and all airlines adhere to this rule.
  • Liquid medicines on board(potions, suspensions, etc.) - if the jar does not exceed 100 ml in size, then you can take it in hand luggage, the main thing is that all liquids together do not exceed 1 liter and lie in transparent bag with a clasp, as shown in the photo above. It is better, of course, in the factory container, so that it can be seen that this is medicine.

Transportation of equipment on board the aircraft

Any non-professional equipment is transported free of charge in addition to hand luggage , i.e. if you have a bag (hand luggage) available, then you can also take a bag with a camera, or a laptop, or a video camera to it free of charge. However, if you have this equipment professional, then it is transported on other conditions that are established by the airline, the main thing is to call them in advance and find out everything.

Hygiene products with you on the plane

  • Perfume(or eau de toilette) - you can, if the size of the bottle does not exceed 100 ml, if it still exceeds, then we put it in luggage.
  • Shampoo- it is possible, if the vial does not exceed 100 ml in size, if the container itself is larger, and there are only 100 ml of liquid, we still transfer it to luggage.
  • Air conditioning- the same as with the shampoo above.
  • Toothpaste- the same thing, if the tube does not exceed 100 ml in size, you can take it in hand luggage, the main thing is that all liquids together do not exceed 1 liter and lie in a transparent bag with a zipper.
  • Deodorant - deodorants are different: a) in cylinders under pressure - these are definitely not allowed in hand luggage, we check them in luggage or we don’t take them with us at all; b) dry deodorants - if they are in a tube up to 100 ml, then you can take it in hand luggage; c) also liquid deodorants - if the tube is up to 100 ml, you can take it with you to the cabin of the aircraft in hand luggage.
  • After Shave Lotion - if its tube is up to 100 ml., then you can put it with you in hand luggage on the plane. Just remember the rule that in the total volume of such tubes (jars) there should be no more than 1 liter, packed in a transparent bag with a zip fastener.

Children (food, things, cradle, stroller, toys, medicines) on the plane

Many parents ask questions about transporting children on an airplane - is it possible to carry baby food, things, toys, a stroller in hand luggage? Let's check what of this can be taken to the salon and what is not:

  • Baby food on the plane it is allowed to take in the amount that the baby will need during the flight without restrictions.
  • Children's medicines- there should be no problems with medicines for children either, just remember that it is better to take liquid medicines no more than 100 ml, and put them in a transparent bag.
  • Child's baggage (not hand luggage)- many Russian airlines allow baggage for a child, just remember that without providing a seat, a child is allowed to carry 1 piece of baggage from 7-10 kg in size, and if you bought a whole piece for a child, then all the conditions for carrying baggage and manual baggage in accordance with the rules of the fare you have purchased. However, different airlines maybe we look differently at what yours writes.
  • Baby cradles and strollers on board the aircraft- it is not forbidden to carry a baby cradle for a child in any airline (check about the car seat when buying a ticket), but the information about the stroller in hand luggage is questionable, it is usually required to check it in luggage, however, at the same time, the stroller can definitely be carried free of charge in addition to checked baggage, i.e. check it in the luggage compartment, the main thing is that it does not exceed a weight of no more than 20 kg.
  • Toys- you can take your child's favorite toy on board the plane in your or his hand luggage (if it is provided for by the ticket), it can be a teddy bear, a train and much more, the main thing is to go through allowable weight hand luggage.

Medications on board

Those medicines that you may need during the flight can be taken with you in hand luggage, in the amount that is required, just remember that I wrote earlier about liquids. It is better to take all medicines in their original packaging with instructions so that the inspectors do not have any questions. True, do not be alarmed, how much we flew, no one asked anything. Medicines for a child should also be passed in hand luggage to the cabin without any problems, just remember that it is better to take liquid medicines no more than 100 ml and put them in a transparent bag.

Usually there is no problem with a small number of tablets that we take with us on a trip in hand luggage, these can be the following tablets:

  • From motion sickness
  • For a headache
  • From indigestion
  • Antipyretic

Other medicines that you may need while traveling can be found in our article:

Also, if you didn’t take any medicine with you, but your head ached, then you can always ask the flight attendant for something for a headache, because. There is a first aid kit on board.

Ladies' bags, men's briefcases, backpacks

  • Ladies bag - according to the Federal Aviation Regulations Russian airlines a handbag is allowed to be carried free of charge and in addition to hand luggage, i.e. you can take a bag with hand luggage and also your handbag and there will be no problems.
  • Men's briefcase - as well as with a handbag, a briefcase can be carried on board free of charge in addition to hand luggage.
  • Backpack - all Russian airlines consider a backpack to be hand luggage if it fits the size and weight of hand luggage, especially since now it has been included in the list of hand luggage allowed under Article 135 of FAP 82

Food to go to the cabin

Many people ask the question - "Is it possible to carry food in hand luggage?" I will tell you that almost everything is possible within reasonable limits, but there are exceptions, read below which ones:

  • Coffee- you can carry it in hand luggage, but it’s better not in glass, it’s most likely to shift or buy a bag with a zipper.
  • Tea- loose can be taken in hand luggage, preferably in its original packaging, so that it is immediately clear what it is. At the same time, various other teas, including cough teas, can also be carried in hand luggage.
  • sandwiches- we had no problems with such food during various flights, including non-Russian airlines. And one from whom food had to be ordered separately.
  • Sausage- in hand luggage you can carry a loaf, or even two of any sausage, the main thing is that you fly across Russia, but if you are going abroad, then read the customs rules of the country where you are flying.
  • Candies- you can take sweets, as well as chocolates, with you in your hand luggage on board the aircraft.
  • Bread- none of the Russian airlines will forbid you to carry bread on board the aircraft in your hand luggage.
  • Meat (raw, boiled, minced meat) and lard- all of the above can be carried in hand luggage in Russia, however, as I indicated above, the EU countries prohibit the import (since March 2009) of dairy and meat products into their territory, both in luggage and in hand luggage. Exception: children's and special diet food prescribed for medical reasons.
  • Red caviar- of course, in order not to risk it, it is better to put caviar in your luggage, but if you want to fly only with hand luggage, then in principle you will not have any problems when transporting red caviar across Russia.
  • Fish (raw, dried, dried)- all of the above can be carried in hand luggage in Russia, the main thing is to pack well, however, as I indicated above, the EU countries prohibit the import (since March 2009) of dairy and meat products into their territory, both in luggage and in hand luggage. Exception: children's and special diet food prescribed for medical reasons. In any case, if you are flying abroad, it is better to study the customs regulations of the country where you are going.
  • processed cheese- there were cases when such cheese was confiscated during the inspection of hand luggage, so it is better not to take it into the cabin, but pack it and check it in with your luggage or not take it at all. And also, no one forbids bringing it on board, in containers of no more than 100 ml. and in the total volume of all liquids no more than 1 liter in a transparent plastic bag.
  • Honey- you can not take it as hand luggage on the plane, because it is classified as a liquid and in most cases is removed from hand luggage, it is better to transfer it to luggage, or carry it on board, in containers of no more than 100 ml. and in a total volume of not more than 1 liter.
  • Fruits (mango, pineapple, etc.)- you can carry it and even need it in hand luggage, the main thing is not to forget about the requirements for the weight and size of hand luggage from your airline you are flying with.
  • Raw eggs (chicken, goose, quail)– you can take them with you in your hand luggage, because. in luggage they can easily be broken, crushed.
  • Cereals (buckwheat, rice, etc.)- all of the above can be carried in hand luggage in Russia, however, as I indicated above, if you ate abroad, you need to read the customs rules of the country where you are flying.

How to transport lithium batteries and devices with them on an airplane

1. Small personal mobility aids

Aeroflot has recently allowed the carriage of small means for personal transportation on lithium batteries, These include:

  • unicycle,
  • segways (mini-segways),
  • hoverboards,
  • hoverboards,
  • electric scooters,

however, in a certain order, we read below in which:

Usually this technique works on a lithium-ion battery, which must be removed from the device itself and transported separately in hand luggage, and the hoverboard itself (and other devices listed above) must be put and checked in with luggage, but the main thing is that the power of such batteries does not exceed 160 watts at one o'clock.

If you have a built-in battery, then you cannot transport this product as indicated above, you must register such cargo with the airline as “Dangerous Goods”, and this is another story, which I will talk about a little later. It is also important to know that in any case you should call the airline and inform that you are carrying this device, they will tell you exactly what needs to be done with it, at least Aeroflot has such a rule.

2. Other devices with lithium-ion batteries

Basically, there are the following items with such lithium batteries: phones, laptops, camcorders, watches, players, portable medical devices, and their battery power usually does not exceed 100 Wh, then such devices and equipment can and should be carried in hand luggage. And for other devices with a lithium-ion battery capacity exceeding 100 Wh, you need permission from the airline itself to carry on the plane, so you need to call your airline in advance and find out everything.

You can read about other devices that are allowed with lithium batteries in hand luggage in the following article about the features of transportation .

I didn’t find such a ban in other airlines, including the Siberia company, but in any case, jokes are bad with such batteries, and if you don’t put such a device in your luggage or hand luggage correctly, you can lose it during inspection, so it’s important for 48 hours before departure, call the airline you are flying with and clarify everything.

Tools in hand luggage

  • screwdriver- in modern world screwdrivers began to be made with built-in lithium-ion batteries inside, and some airlines impose their own restrictions on such batteries, so it’s better to find out directly in your airline before departure how to transport such a tool. If your screwdriver is with a conventional battery, then we remove all nozzles (prickly and cutting) and check them in luggage, and take the screwdriver with the battery with us in hand luggage.
  • Pliers
  • Spanners- it is better to immediately put this tool in your luggage, and do not try to carry it in your hand luggage into the cabin of the aircraft.

Women's accessories for beauty, as well as for knitting on the plane

Read on, is it possible to carry with you on a plane in hand luggage: a cosmetic bag, a manicure set, a hair dryer, a curling iron, a hair straightener. We always remember what is not prohibited, you can bring it into the salon, the main thing is to know what exactly is prohibited, and these are piercing and cutting objects, harmful substances, as well as those devices that can spontaneously turn on. And from this we draw the following conclusions:

a) Cosmetic bag, which may contain:

  • ink- you can take it with you in hand luggage, because. usually the tube is less than 100 ml.
  • Shadows- can be taken in hand luggage
  • Tone cream- you can take it in your hand luggage, as long as the tube is no more than 100 ml. and all these liquids must be put in a transparent bag with a zipper, this is done for the convenience of checking your things.
  • Eyeliners- it is not a liquid and not a piercing object, so you can take it with you in hand luggage
  • Eyelash curler- do not have pointed ends, so there should be no problems with them during the inspection and they can be taken in hand luggage on the plane.
  • Eyebrow tongs (some with pointed ends)- it is better not to take them into the cabin of the aircraft in hand luggage, but to shift them into luggage.
  • Polish for hair - usually in a pressurized tank, and such items are not allowed on board in hand luggage, so it's best to put it in your luggage right away.

b) A manicure set usually contains piercing and cutting items that are prohibited for carriage in the aircraft cabin:

  • Scissors (scissors)- they are definitely forbidden to be carried in hand luggage on board the aircraft (usually Russian airlines prohibit piercing and cutting objects in the cabin of the aircraft), the best way they will not be forfeited to be handed over together with your luggage.
  • Eyebrow tweezers (some with pointed ends)- it is also better not to take them into the cabin of the aircraft, because. they fit the description of piercing and cutting objects prohibited on board.
  • Nail file- if it is metal and sharp, then it is definitely prohibited in hand luggage, transfer it to your checked-in luggage.

c) Hair appliances such as hair dryer, curling iron, straightener:

d) Knitting

  • Knitting needles- no, it is forbidden to take sharp, piercing and cutting objects into the cabin of the aircraft, so the knitting needles will have to be checked in with your luggage.
  • Crochet hooks- it’s also better not to take risks so that they are not taken away during the inspection of hand luggage, put in luggage or simply don’t take them with you.

Fragile items to take on the plane

Almost all fragile things or objects can be taken with you as hand luggage, as long as the size and weight meet the requirements of your airline.

  • Crystal (glasses)- you can, if the size and weight of hand luggage meets the requirements of your airline.
  • Ceramics (ware)
  • Household appliances (slow cooker)- you can, if the size and weight of hand luggage meets the requirements of your airline.

Sports nutrition

You already understood about liquids earlier, and all dry mixtures of sports nutrition can be taken with you on board the aircraft in hand luggage, the main thing is to observe the size and weight allowed by the airline you are flying with.

Electronic cigarettes (electronic vaporizers)

E-cigarettes- in Russian airlines (and in foreign ones) are transported only in hand luggage(precisely in things with a passenger on board), they are prohibited in baggage. They explain that this condition occurs in accordance with the requirements of the Bermuda Aviation Authorities, apparently, part of the aircraft is registered there, so it is their requirements that must be observed. Liquids for such cigarettes must be packaged as indicated above: no more than 100 ml. vial and in general no more than 1 liter per person in a transparent bag. Smoking electronic cigarettes on board the aircraft is strictly prohibited.

Animals - how to carry on an airplane?

All Russian airlines have strict rules for transporting an animal on board:

  1. When buying a ticket and wanting to bring an animal, you must definitely call and inform the airline, they will tell you whether it is possible or not to carry your animal, and if so, what documents and certificates will be needed for it. You can call up to 48 hours before your departure.
  2. If your animal is allowed to be transported, then it is necessary to collect all documents and certificates for it from the veterinary clinic
  3. Before departure, no later than 3 hours, it is necessary to pass a veterinary control and register a pet for a flight

Also, each airline has its own nuances for the carriage of hand luggage, they can be found in the following articles:

And if you want to make sure you are not overpaying for air tickets, you can read the following article:

    1. Yes, but it depends on the country. In Thailand, for example, electronic cigarettes are banned, and probably your option too. The quantity is regulated by the customs regulations of the country. Usually 1 block (10 packs of 20 cigarettes), sometimes more. I think it applies to sticks too
