Major cathedrals and basilicas, including St. Peter's, are open all day. The cathedrals are equipped with automatic devices that turn on the lighting of church interiors. It is convenient to view the paintings on the ceilings and domes of churches through binoculars. With all the liberalism of the Italians, you will not be allowed into the church or the cathedral in shorts and dresses that are too open.

Museums: the day off for museums is usually Monday (except for the Vatican Museums). The opening hours of the museums are different and also depend on the time of year.

Restaurants

Italian cuisine is loved in many countries of the world. For her alone it would be worth a trip to Italy. You can enjoy all the nuances of Italian cuisine both in the most expensive restaurant and in modest trattorias. The quality of food does not depend on the amount of the bill.

Please note that many restaurants, cafes and pizzerias close "for lunch" between 15:00 and 19:00. Restaurants have a day off.

The Italian meal itself looks like this:

Antipasti is served as an appetizer - croutons with tomatoes, olives, smoked meats, carpaccio.

The first course is pasta seasoned with various sauces, the recipes of which are passed down from generation to generation. Pasta is what is called pasta in Russia: spaghetti, horns, vermicelli, noodles (tagliatelle), feathers (penne), ears, shells, etc. Rice dishes, such as the famous risotto and, less commonly, soup, which Italians mainly eat during dinner, are also included in the category of "first".

The Italian second is a steak with blood or a crispy crust, the most delicate fish, a variety of seafood (squid, shrimps, lobsters, lobsters, octopuses), baked poultry. All this is accompanied by excellent Italian wines.

The choice of desserts is huge: fresh fruit or macedonia (fruit salad), tiramisu, profiteroles, panacotta, traditional biscuits and semifreddo cakes, and, of course, Italian ice cream.

At the end of the meal, “digestivo” is served, as usual, this is “amaro” - a balm infused with herbs that helps digestion, or grappa - the famous Italian grape vodka.

And be sure to have a cup of coffee: espresso, americano, macchiato, but not cappuccino, which Italians drink only in the morning.

It is better to try a real pizza in a pizzeria, where pizza is cooked in front of you, in real ovens, on wood (forno a legna).

Tips

The tipping system applies to the services of waiters in bars and restaurants, maids in hotels, taxi drivers and guides and amounts to 5-10% of the order value. Tipping is optional, but if the customer is satisfied with the service, a tip is a sign of good manners.

Before boarding the train, you must validate your ticket (yellow / orange boxes are installed in the station building and on the platforms).

Choosing a route

First of all, familiarize yourself with the procedure for payment, booking and cancellation of tours. Travel agencies, after paying the deposit by the client, book a place on the plane and hotel. In case of cancellation of the trip, the company will be charged fines, which it will legally collect from the client.

When buying a tour, a voucher and a tourist voucher are issued. These documents list the range of services provided by the travel agency, and indicate the timing of the trip. The obligations of the parties and penalties in case of late cancellation of the tour are stipulated in the contract. Review the list of services indicated in the voucher and check whether they correspond to your order using international travel terms:

OB(only bed) - only accommodation
BB(bed end breakfast) - accommodation and breakfast
HB(half board) - accommodation, breakfast, dinner
Facebook(full board) - accommodation, breakfast, lunch, dinner
AI(all inclusive) - accommodation and all-inclusive meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks of local production)
SGL(single) - single occupancy
DBL(double) - double occupancy
TRPL(triple) - triple occupancy Suite - accommodation in a deluxe room
family room- accommodation in a deluxe room with separate rooms
Extra bed- an extra bed
Chi(child) - child
Ad(adult) - adult
SV(Sea View) - view of the sea.

Big fees

Finally, the suitcase is packed, and you are ready to leave the house to plunge into the atmosphere of the holiday that you have been dreaming of for a whole year. Check if you have taken all the documents necessary for the trip: passport and its photocopy (if you lose the original, it will make it easier to return home), voucher, medical insurance policy, air ticket, driver's license (if you plan to rent a car).

At the airport, fill out the customs declaration in advance, get a seat in the non-smoking cabin (if necessary), prepare documents for the export of currency. Keep the customs declaration until you return to Moscow.

you arrived at the hotel

Abroad, in all hotels, the day begins and ends at 12 noon. Therefore, if you arrive earlier than this time or leave later, you will have to spend some time on the beach, by the pool or wandering around the shops. If you liked the room so much that you don’t want to leave it even a few hours before departure, be prepared to pay for half a day or an extra day, and at the highest hotel prices.

Some hotels offer a popular concept All inclusive(all included in the price). This concept implies three meals a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner). Free - alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, snacks throughout the day, a large selection of free sports activities, free participation in entertainment programs for adults and children. The range of these services varies depending on the hotel. More detailed information is provided in the catalogs of each of them.

It is advisable to leave the room keys at the hotel counter every time you leave it (unlike the guest card, which should always be with you - after all, this is your pass to the hotel restaurant and the world of paid hotel services, as well as a hint for taxi driver, if you are not at all at odds with a foreign language).

The guides of the travel agency that sent you on vacation visit the hotel according to the schedule. It is posted on the information board, which is located in each hotel, usually next to the reception desk. Any problem associated with staying on vacation (transfer, hotel accommodation, shortcomings in hotel service, comments on excursions) must be correctly, but promptly resolved with a representative of the host company.

My own bodyguard

Don't risk your money by leaving it in your rooms - this is not recommended even in the highest category hotels. It is safer to store money, documents and jewelry in a safe, which is available in the vast majority of hotels at the reception desk or in the room. The use of the safe is usually provided for a small fee.

Home, home, home

The status of your account for any day can be found at the reception desk by asking for a computer printout. On the day of departure from the hotel, pay for all additional services: mini-bar, telephone conversations, ordering food and drinks in the room, etc. Remember that international calls will cost you less from a pay phone in the lobby than from your room.

Departure and arrival

You need to arrive at the airport 2.5 hours before departure. Be aware of the free baggage allowance and excess baggage surcharge. Tickets indicate local time.

To board a flight you need:

Pass customs inspection, for which fill out a customs declaration (if the amount of exported currency exceeds $ 3,000 per person). Customs declaration forms are located in front of the customs line on tables or special racks. When filling out the declaration form, you should indicate the entire amount of foreign currency that you took with you. Remember that in order to export from Russia more than 10,000 US dollars or the equivalent in other currencies, you must have a bank certificate (valid for 1 year from the date of issue) or an entry customs declaration (issued no more than 1 year ago) with the appropriate customs stamps. A certificate (declaration) is submitted when passing customs control. The customs declaration should be kept until the return arrival in Russia.

Check in for your flight at the check-in desk and receive your boarding pass. The check-in desk number is indicated on the central board opposite your flight number. All questions about your seat number on the plane are resolved only here.

Pass the border control in any cabin.

Board the aircraft through the exit number indicated on the boarding pass.

Upon arrival in Tunisia

To enter Tunisia, a visa is required, for which you must fill out a registration card arriving in the country. Cards can be issued on the plane or at the airport in front of the check-in counter. For citizens of Russia, a visa to Tunisia is free, after presenting a Russian passport and a completed registration card, a stamp is placed in the passport. After passing through passport control and collecting luggage (remember, the porter service is paid!) At the exit from the airport, a representative of our company with a sign “PEGAS” is waiting for you. After the mark with the representative of the company, you will be shown the bus to the hotel. Make sure your luggage is loaded onto the bus. It should be borne in mind that, depending on the number of tourists, the bus can call at several hotels.

Time

Time is 3 hours behind Moscow time.

Customs

Allowed to be imported into Tunisia: 400 cigarettes or 100 cigars or 500 grams of tobacco, 2 liters of alcoholic beverages with a strength of less than 25%, 1 liter of alcoholic beverages with a strength of more than 25%.

Currency

The monetary unit is the Tunisian dinar, which is divided into 1000 millimeters. In circulation are coins in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 millimeters and coins in denominations of 0.5 and 1 dinar, banknotes of 5, 10 and 20 dinars. It is extremely rare to come across coins of 1 millimeter. Banknotes of the same denomination may be of different designs and differ in size and color.

The import of foreign currency is not limited, national - is prohibited. Export of imported foreign currency is allowed. Currency can be changed at the hotel or bank exchange office. The rate is usually fixed, set by the Central Bank of Tunisia. Foreign currency can be exchanged at exchange offices, banks, as well as at specialized exchange points in ports, airports or hotels, and only at a fixed rate of the Central Bank of Tunisia. When exchanging, it is recommended to take a receipt, which is the main document for the return exchange for foreign currency - the exchange is made only at the airport and only if there is a receipt for the initial exchange. Traveler's checks and credit cards are accepted without restrictions in many shops, restaurants and hotels. ATMs can also be found in all major cities and tourist centers.

Transport

Taxi. There are several types of them in Tunisia. When moving within one settlement, you should stop a yellow taxi. For a trip to another city, both the so-called “big taxi” (payment for the meter) and a special minibus with a fixed route are intended. The fare in Tunisian taxis is relatively low.

Car rental

Available to anyone over the age of 21 and whose driver's license was issued more than a year ago. Traffic rules are not much different from Russian ones. The speed of movement in cities is 50 km / h, on all roads of the island of Djerba - 70 km / h, on the highway - 90 km / h (if there are no special signs).

Those wishing to delve into the desert are required to warn employees of special posts about their trip and the chosen route.

Bus service.

With the help of a bus, you can get to almost any corner of the country - you just need to find out the timetable and stop of the bus following the route you need.

Tram-type transport, so named after the first letters of the main destinations that can be reached with its help (Tunisia - la Goullet - la Marsa).

Domestic air service

The local airline "Tuninter" operates flights between the main cities of the country (Tunis, Monastir, Sfax, Tozeur, Tabarka, Djerba island).

Water.

Water in Tunisia is safe for health, but differs in composition from water in Russia, so we recommend that you drink water from plastic bottles that you can buy at any store or bar.

Alcohol.

During Ramadan, faithful Tunisians - Muslims do not smoke or eat from dawn to dusk. Therefore, it is better for tourists to refrain from smoking, drinking and eating on city streets. You can drink and smoke on site. At any time, it is better not to offer unfamiliar Tunisians to smoke, drink wine or beer, and especially drink strong drinks together. It is not customary for Muslims to eat standing up or on the move, as well as to look in the face of a person busy eating. Alcohol is treated much more calmly here than in the countries of orthodox Islam. Tunisia produces excellent dry and table wines, several types of beer. French masters are still advising Tunisian ones. Let's name such varieties: tart and heavy Chateau Mornag, red and pink and lighter Magon. The liquor made from dates and herbs "Tibarin" is distinguished by its original taste. But the Bukha fig vodka is similar to our moonshine (but very high quality).

Purchases

In a number of cities and large villages of Tunisia, ancient crafts have been preserved: in Kairouan, El-Jem, Udref, Kusaybat-el-Madyuni - carpet weaving; in Nabeul, Moknin and on the island of Djerba - pottery; in Sousse - brass products; in Buder, Ksar-Hellale, Bu-Himar - weaving from wool; in Hergl and Moknin, weaving of straw baskets for olives, etc. Handicraft workshops and small trade are concentrated in the local bazaar (souk), located in the old part of the city. Market days in different cities are different: in Sousse - Sunday, in Moknin - Wednesday, etc. In Jemmal, a camel market is held once a week, known throughout Tunisia and willingly visited by tourists. The most popular purchases and souvenirs in Tunisia are gold and silver products, which are distinguished by excellent workmanship, as well as copper dishes - such plates and dishes are used in everyday life. Floral scents are also a part of Tunisian life - try geranium-scented teas and cakes made with rose syrup, which you can take home in a bottle.

Local Features

Remember that photographing locals requires tact and forethought. It is also impolite to stare at women in a veil. Respecting the feelings of believers, it is better not to walk around the capital and the old Muslim quarters of cities in shorts and too open T-shirts. In resort areas, tourists can dress lightly and freely. It is also not customary here to drink water after a fatty meal, and bread is usually broken off by hand. Safety in general and tourists in particular are monitored everywhere. And, nevertheless, petty theft is possible, especially in crowded places where pickpockets "work".

Tips

In Tunisia, it is customary to tip. In cafes and restaurants tips are 10% of the cost of the order, but as a rule, they are already included in the cost of your order. Tipping the taxi driver is also 10% of the cost of the trip.

Telephone

You can call from Tunisia in the following ways: There are telephone booths labeled "taxiphones". To call by a payphone, you need to purchase a calling card. A three-minute conversation with Russia or Ukraine will cost about 10 dinars, during the conversation, watch the counter, lowering the coins each time. If you call from a hotel room, the cost of this service is approximately 3 times higher than a call from a pay phone.
