Chronicle of the Bell Festival.

“The first bell festival in Kamensk took place on July 15-17, 2005.

But two weeks before that, on July 4, a new bell rang in the center of the city in the chapel of Alexander Nevsky - a real giant weighing 80 pounds (1320 kg), cast at the factory of Nikolai Pyatkov. For the sake of so important event Archbishop of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye Vikenty arrived in Kamensk for the consecration ceremony.

The head of Kamensk, Viktor Yakimov, and the archbishop were the first to make the new bell ring loudly. And then the central square and the surroundings were announced by the blagovest. The consecration of the bell was timed to coincide with the celebration of the 120th anniversary of the Church of the Intercession of the Mother of God. For the festival of bell ringing at the plant "Pyatkov and K" - the main instigator and initiator of the event - several more bells were made: a portable belfry was placed on July 17 opposite the chapel.

And on July 15, 25 best bell ringers of Russia arrived in Kamensk - from Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov, Arkhangelsk, Moscow, Krasnodar, Irkutsk, Tyumen and other cities.

Russian Orthodox ringing

“Only ignorant people think that all bells “hum” the same way. In fact, each bell ringer has his own technique, his own secrets of working on multi-ton musical instruments. In Russian Orthodox ringing (the presenters explained to the listeners), unlike the Catholic one, there is no melody, but there is a rhythm and character. And the same bells on the belfry of the chapel, controlled by the hands of different bell ringers, each sing in a special way. Everyone has his own voice: the big one makes low sounds, the small ones are filled with a trill; sometimes it seems that these are not heavy bells at all, but bells.

“The July holidays of 2006 were extremely varied. Kamensk saluted for two days, celebrating its 305th anniversary. The bell ringing festival once again became the final chord in a series of bright events. On that festive Sunday, Kamenians got a unique opportunity to listen to live music. A real discovery for true lovers of beauty was the "Song of the Orthodox Ringer" performed by Anna Sumarokova. Novgorod and Arkhangelsk, Suzdal and Vladimir Easter and Christmas, solemn and festive chimes changed the works of Mussorgsky, Glinka, Tchaikovsky"

“During the holiday weekend dedicated to the City Day and Metallurgist Day, Kamensk managed to be featured on several federal TV channels. True, it was not a carnival procession and not harsh metallurgical factory workers that were shown to the whole country. The third bell festival in 2007, which brought together more than two dozen participants this year and received the status of an all-Russian one, is the reason why Moscow announcers learned how to pronounce "Kamensk-Uralsky" correctly.

Gala concert on central square the city, which, according to the already established tradition, completed the festive events, was honored by the presence of the Archbishop of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye Vikenty. Alexander Yareshko, President of the Association of Bell Art of Russia, who has seen many bell festivals all over the country, authoritatively stated: there is no such scale as in Kamensk in Russia.

The festival ended symbolically: at the end of Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture, performed by the orchestra to the sound of bells, a cannon fired.

“And what voices sounded that day under the sky of Kamensk-Uralsky! For the first time, the choir "Russian Singers" came to Kamensk with a concert - a unique group that is in demand far beyond the borders of Russia. As the "singers" Stepan Kostrov and Andrey Lebedev admitted after the performance, for the first time they sang in a concert decorated with bell ringing, and the response from the Kamenets was so cordial that it was felt on such a huge concert venue as main square cities. The performance of the State Orchestra of Folk Instruments "Stars of the Urals" from Yekaterinburg joined the program like a powerful stream. The illustrious ensemble literally blew up the audience with a stunning performance of well-known works of the classical repertoire. In a word, the past gala concert was so generously “strewn” with musical “gems” that we will remember its brilliance for a whole year. Exactly as long as the time will pass before the new - the fifth festival of bell ringing.

“The first suite for bells was performed at the ringing festival in Kamensk-Uralsky.

Popularly lovedbell-shapedthe festival "Kamensk-Uralsky - the bell capital" became the property of history, but it stirred the soul of everyone who was at the gala concert and heard the polyphony of the bells of the chapel of St. Prince Alexander Nevsky. Indescribable delight, peace, joy and tears of tenderness - a range of feelings and a feeling of rebirth. They were presented to Kamensk citizens and guests of the city by the participants of the fifth anniversary festival of ringers. They came to Kamensk-Uralsky from all over Russia - from Moscow and Rostov the Great, Arkhangelsk and Yaroslavl, Tyumen and Megion, Novosibirsk and Primorye, Samara and Yekaterinburg. We have come to pay tribute to the bell-maker Nikolay Pyatkov with their virtuoso and unique playing.”

The gala concert of the participants of the VIII festival Kamensk-Uralsky - the capital of bells became the main festive event on the City Day. Divine music performed by the best ringers of Russia on July 14 was heard live by more than four and a half thousand people.

It was worth sounding "Holy God" ... Byzantine chant (it was performed by Olga Kormukhina and the combined choir of the city's Orthodox churches), how mercilessly scorching sun disappeared behind the clouds, the air was filled with freshness and coolness.

- God blesses us,” Vladyka Sergius explained the change in the weather. - Bell ringing is a triumph of the spirit, it is a call to asceticism. After all, our city is now not only the capital of bells, but also the center of the church region.

From June 17 to June 19, 2017, the Kizhi Museum-Reserve holds a festival of sacred music "The Bell Score of Kizhi Island". The festival is timed to coincide with the celebration of the day of St. Jonah Klimenetsky, a locally revered saint.

Kizhi bell ringers are known for their skill far beyond the protected island. Their performances at the belfry of the chapel of the Archangel Michael for tourist groups and on the bell tower of the Kizhi churchyard during church services have become an integral part of the unique atmosphere of the island of Kizhi. And in ancient times, during the holidays, in Zaonezhye villages, bell ringing was heard from everywhere - belfries sounded with fervent polyphony at the same time, delighting the ear, calling to each other and creating a special musical score of Zaonezhye. In 2014, the Kizhi Museum-Reserve implemented the project “Revival of the Lost Traditions of the Russian North. Bell score of the Kizhi volost. It became a continuation of a number of events aimed at restoring the spiritual tradition of Zaonezhsky villages. In 1988, the bells of the chapel of the Archangel Michael sounded on the island of Kizhi. Ten years later, in 1998, the Kizhi Museum-Reserve and the Association of Bell Art of Russia organized the first festival dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the revival of bell ringing on about. Kizhi. The second festival, dedicated to the 290th anniversary of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, took place on Kizhi Island in 2004. In 2016, the leading bell ringers of the North-West of Russia gathered for the III Festival of Bell Ringing, they visited the belfries at the chapels of the Kizhi Necklace, gave several concerts for tourists and local residents on the belfry of the Kizhi churchyard, the chapels of the Savior Not Made by Hands, Michael the Archangel, Three Saints on the island of Kizhi.

The program of the festival in 2017 includes bell ringers from the leading ringers of Petrozavodsk, St. Petersburg, Veliky Novgorod, Vologda, Moscow, Rostov the Great, and, of course, Kizhi ringers. The bell towers of Kizhi Island will come to life for 3 days of the festival. Bells will sound at the chapel of the Savior Not Made by Hands from the village of Vigovo. At the chapel of the Archangel Michael, real bell concerts will take place, which will demonstrate the peculiarities of bell ringing from different regions of Russia, the individual approach of each master of his craft. And local residents will be pleased with the evening concert of bell ringing on Narina Gora.

In addition, in the vicinity of Kizhi Island there are historical villages with churches and chapels. The sound of bells will also be heard in these villages. Also during the festival, you can get acquainted with the unique exhibition of old postcards “You can see better from your own bell tower” from the private collection of Sergei Starostenkov, Vice President of the Russian Bell Art Association. As part of the festival, the Kizhi Museum-Reserve, together with the Association of Bell Art of Russia, organizes a scientific and practical symposium “Northern chimes in the context of the all-Russian bell tradition”. The following topics are expected to be discussed:

  • Bells and ringing in museums and museum-reserves”;
  • Bell ringing in today's soundscape;
  • Wooden belfries as one of the types of bell towers;
  • Festivals and concerts of bell music;
  • The bells are monuments of history, culture and foundry art.

Not only bell ringers and campanologists will take part in the symposium, but also directors of the largest bell foundries: ITALMAS (Tutaev, Yaroslavl region), LITEKS (Moscow). Bell score of the Kizhi volost:

This year the festival was held in the form of a bell ringing assembly, which brought together 60 bell ringers from all over the country, as well as Belarus and Kazakhstan. On Saturday, May 27, the masters of bell ringing, together with the president of the Russian Bell Art Association Alexander Yareshko, discussed at a scientific-practical conference the problems of preserving bell-ringing traditions.

As a result, a resolution was adopted, in which representatives of different schools expressed their position regarding the use of mechanical bells in churches and temples: written off from other sources, etc.

Any, the most perfect mechanism, cannot praise the Lord, it must be done by a spiritualized person, just as the choristers in the church cannot be replaced by a sound recording and its broadcast in a sound recording.

Bell ringing is not "heavy metal" ringing. The ringing of bells is the "voice of God", a prayer addressed to people, a call to them," the resolution says.

Speaking to the participants and spectators of the conference, the Dean of the Alekseevsky Deanery, Archpriest Pavel Churashov, recalled how the Festival was born. During a pilgrimage to the Saraktash monastery, Father Paul was struck by the sound of their bells.

At that time, there were no bells in the Resurrection Church under construction, and he turned to Alexei Demidov with a request to build a belfry. Aleksey Ivanovich supported this idea and at the beginning of 2002 bells were brought from Kamensk-Uralsk. Under the guidance of the most experienced master Vladimir Petrovsky, a belfry was built, which 15 years later turned into one of the centers of the bell-ringing art.

And over the years, the festival has turned from a timid concert of Alekseevsky ringers, who were trained by Vladimir Maryanovich in a few months, into a festival of an all-Russian scale, which is eagerly awaited not only by residents of the region, but also by the republic!

And Alekseevskoye became one of the centers for the development of bell ringing, because after the conference, master classes were held at three portable belfries and the bell tower of the temple from representatives of various bell ringing schools.

And already on Sunday, despite the cool weather, the Cathedral Square was filled with several thousand spectators who gathered to listen to the bells and look at the authors and performers of sacred and folk music, folklore and dance groups. In total, there were about 250 artists who came.

Before the start of the holiday, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan Vasil Shaykhraziev, Chairman of the Accounts Chamber of the Republic of Tatarstan Alexei Demidov, State Duma deputy Olga Pavlova, accompanied by the head of the district Vladimir Kozonkov, examined the shopping malls of the "City of Masters", which unfolded nearby.

At the opening of the Festival, Vasil Shaykhraziev congratulated the Alekseyevites, participants and guests on behalf of the President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov on the holiday and noted that from the point of view of Orthodoxy and Islam, such festivals are accompanied by spirituality:

When we educate ourselves on the basis of the laws, traditions and culture of our ancestors, on the basis of Orthodoxy, educate our children and grandchildren, pass on the greatness of Russia from generation to generation, this is our strength, our unity. More recently, in 2003, the festival was only in its infancy, and years later it became international.

I would like to wish Alekseevsky Perezvony longevity, so that the number of participants and spectators grows from year to year. And as a legacy of the festival, so that we in our families, our homes, in our Tatarstan, Russia, always feel peace, respect for the elders and educate the younger generation on the example of this.

Bishop of Chistopol and Nizhnekamsk Parmen also welcomed the guests:

Today, Alekseevskoe, Tatarstan, Russia, this bell ringing testifies to the call to peace, the call to love, which Christ himself commanded. As the ancients said, it's high time to reforge swords into plowshares and stop fighting.

From myself I will add - to pray, work, create, restore temples and mosques, love, help the old and the poor, create families, give birth to children, enable them to remember history and never forget it.

After that, the bell-ringing squad took the stage, which was led into the festival “battle” by the guest of honor Alexander Yareshko and the smallest Cossack in the world, Ivan Shuvarov, who became famous after participating in the TV project “Best of All”. Eminent bell ringers Sergey Maltsev (Rostov-on-Don), Yuri Pavlov (Samara), Vladimir Degtyarev (Yaroslavl), Bogdan Beryozkin (Minsk), Pavel Lyalin (Moscow) and Ksenia Plekhanova (Alekseevskoye), conducted by the President of the Bell Ringing Art Association, delighted the audience with a simultaneous ringing with all belfries.

This year, the organizers of the gala concert presented the audience with a medley of final songs that were performed in different years. Moreover, participants of previous festivals were invited for this.

By tradition, the anthem of Alekseevsky chimes was performed by the constant participants of the festival Stanislav Barteniev and Anna Sizova, as well as Ekaterina Belova. With a kind word, they remembered the first ringers who stood at the origins of the festival, as well as the organizers of the bell tower.

At the same time, shots and explosions were heard at the stadium, which were arranged by lovers of historical reconstruction at the Cossack Sloboda.

According to Yury Yegorov, ataman of the Alekseevskaya village, this project has been implemented as part of the Alekseevskie perezvony bell ringing festival for the third year in a row. This year, the Cossack Sloboda program included a historical reconstruction of combat episodes from the times civil war 1918-1922 dedicated to the events near the village of Bolshoy Krasny Yar (now the Stepnoshtalinsk rural settlement).

Representatives of the military-historical clubs "3rd Don Cossack Battery" from Dimitrovgrad, "Regimental Intelligence", "Azov Red Navy", "147 Infantry Samara Regiment" from Samara, "Avtobat" and "Combat Unit" from Ulyanovsk, took part in the reconstruction, as well as participants in the children's movement "Svyatych" under the "Union of Cossack Warriors of Russia and Abroad".

In the second part, a combat episode from the times of the Great Patriotic War was played, in which the events of June 1944 near Vitebsk were restored. Representatives of the military-historical clubs "Citadel" and "Vityaz" from Kazan, "Zvezda" from Alekseevsky and the search squad "Shot" of the city of Chistopol took part in the performance.

During the breaks between the “battles”, the guests of the festival heard a lot of military and Cossack songs performed by the Zakamsky Cossack choir from Naberezhnye Chelny. Also, representatives of the Cossack societies “Khutor Borovetsky” and “Sanitsa Cheremshanskaya” held a master class on flanking with a sword among the audience, and the folk group “Siberian Cossack. Kazan" organized national games.

We are coming for the second time. Last year they were spectators. And this year, the children performed, and rested from the heart, sang and danced. It's nice that Vanya is recognized, but on the other hand, he is only 5 years old, and such fame has fallen on him. It is good that he is still small and does not realize this gravity.

He is already tired of this, because they come up to him all the time, ask him something, ask him to take a picture. And the festival itself is very positive. Here are the Cossack brothers, the clergy, the fair of craftsmen. I have not seen a single person today with a sour face.

This suggests that the festival was really a success, people come here, people are interested in it. We arrived yesterday, and for the first time we are in such an environment that we fall asleep and wake up to the ringing of bells, because rehearsals went on until eleven at night, and in the morning they also rang the bells.

Indescribable feeling of spiritual purity, grace. We are glad that on Alekseevskaya land we are considered fellow countrymen. All our relatives are from Shuran, it is not far from here, and therefore we are all countrymen here, on big river Kama. Next year we plan to come with all the relatives, there are twenty of us.

Unfortunately, the bell-ringer from Ukraine, Irina Zvyagolskaya, had difficulties at the border, and she could not come to the festival, which made her very upset. Through the newspaper, Irina sends greetings to all Alekseevites, and wishes the bell ringers constant improvement:

To all ringers good health, success in bell-making, always be on top, learn and develop, do not be lazy, strive for the best. All the best and a big hello from Dikanka.

The holiday of the bell ringing ended with an evening concert, at which the participants of the festival did not allow the audience to freeze. The artists warmed them with their perky and cheerful numbers. The performances of the harpists of the Living Water Ensemble, Stanislav Bartenyev, Anna Sizova and other performers made them dance and sing along.

Well, the chic end of the Festival was fireworks that did not leave anyone indifferent!

Invites all bell ringers to the bell ringing festival, which will take place as part of the celebration of the patronal feast -. On Saturday, July 21, after the morning festive service, it is planned to hold the second festival of bell ringing.

In the first part of the festival, the following typical bells will sound:

  • Blagovest - ringing before the start of the service, characterized by measured blows to one of the large bells-evangelists;
  • Trezvon is a solemn ringing with the use of all, including small bells.
  • Funeral enumeration - ringing with alternate strikes on the bells from small to large, followed by a blow "in all".
  • A water-consecrated chime is a ringing for the consecration of the Great Epiphany Water, seven strikes per bell in turn from large to small.
  • Lenten - in other words, ringing "at two" - ringing on weekdays of Great Lent and Passion Week: 40 unhurried blows to two (usually the largest) bells.
  • Wedding (accelerating) - a solemn ringing at the end of the wedding. It is characterized by the gradual inclusion of increasingly heavier bells and, sometimes, by the acceleration of the rhythm.

The second part of the festival will contain traditional chimes from all the gathered bell ringers from different parishes of Russia. At the festival, each bell ringer can please guests with their art of bell ringing and exchange experience with other bell ringers!

In recent years, work has been carried out to revive the art of bell ringing, which was lost during the Soviet period. New factories for casting bells are opened, casting methods are being reconstructed. Active actions are being taken to recreate and preserve historical traditional bells, educational activities are being carried out. Schools of bell ringers are opened, events related to bell ringing are organized.

In the Old Believers, the art of bell ringing developed in a more isolated and complex way. In the tsarist years, the activities of the Old Believers were prohibited, and the ringing of bells was accordingly prohibited. During the Soviet period, churches were closed everywhere and bells were destroyed and melted down. At present, in connection with the construction of churches and the registration of new communities, there is a need to revive the art of bell ringing, which is an integral part of Orthodox worship. The ringing of bells creates a certain sound atmosphere around the temple, informs about the actions taking place in the temple, carries a kind of sermon. One of the ways to popularize the art of bell ringing and improve the general level of proficiency in technique is to hold cultural events related to bell ringing. Since last year, in Siberia, in the city of Novokuznetsk, it has been taking place. Festivals of bell ringing and on the basis of the temple in the village. B. Nepryakhino. On the Nepryakhinskaya bell tower there is a standard selection of 9 bells weighing from 4 before 620 kg.

All interested ringers of Old Believer churches from all over Russia and beyond are invited to participate in the festival. Preferably beforehand, no later than July 20, inform the organizers of your intention to take part in the festival. Phone number for the organization of the festival of bell ringing: 8 910 895 68 60 Sergey. The cause of the revival of the art of bell ringing is our common cause - the cause of the development of the Old Believers!
