Weekend in Amsterdam: what to see in two days? What to do on the weekend or Amsterdam in two days Cultural program: hunting for the beauties of Amsterdam.

How to travel cheaply to Amsterdam?

Amsterdam is considered pretty expensive city for tourists, so when preparing a trip here, most travelers lay a fairly large budget.

2. cheap housing in Amsterdam

The best way to save on accommodation is with well-known hostels or beds. Hostels are a very popular form of accommodation in Amsterdam among tourists. Compared to other European cities, here they are quite expensive, but there are a lot of them, and if you try, then for 20-25 euros you can find a great option in the city center, with breakfast included and a shared bathroom for each room (where there will be 6-8 beds). We recommend that you book a hostel with breakfast included, because wandering around the city in the morning in search of inexpensive breakfasts is a very tiring and irrational business.

Little life hack: if you have a company of 5 people, then you can book 6 beds in one 6-bed room. Of course, you will have to pay for an empty bed, chipping in at 4-5 euros per person. But in the end, you will live exclusively with your company in one room, have your own bathroom at your disposal, not worry about the safety of things and not be afraid to interfere with your fellow travelers. And an empty bed can be used ... well, for example, as a table :) As a result, the hostel will no longer be a hostel for you, but a real hotel room, albeit a modest one :)

3. Where to eat cheaply in Amsterdam?

Of course, it is impossible to cook your own food in such conditions, and eating in cafes and restaurants in Amsterdam is quite expensive. But there are alternative options. It's not even about bored McDonald's, Burger Kings, Subways, etc., the food in which will get bored in a few days, but about something more interesting. Amsterdam has a well-developed local fast food.
Right on the street you can try the national fast food...herring! Trays with a sign "Haringhandel" - you are here!

For 2-2.5 euros they will put you a few pieces of herring, add cucumbers and onions to it, and for 4-4.5 they will make a real hot dog with herring! The last option is very satisfying and tasty - perfect for refreshing before a walk.

Network of Wok to Walk establishments.

The system works here collect a box of food yourself, some probably had to deal with it. Your dish is assembled in 4 steps: first choose the base, such as rice, udon, etc., then choose the toppings (meat, chicken, mushrooms, peppers, etc.), as well as sauce or seasoning, and finally choose your drink, optional. Behind 7-10 euros you can collect a very tasty box for yourself, and the portions here are quite large (it is quite possible to eat one for two).

After your order is placed, you are given a receipt and a round black thing (pictured) that will beep and vibrate as soon as your order is ready.

Below we attach a photo of the menu, with which you can navigate the prices and the list, if you have problems with English, then use the translator in advance.

In the Soup en Zo network for only 5-6 euro you can take a soup (tomato, pumpkin, with asparagus, etc.). Moreover, before ordering a serving, you can first taste the dish.

If the stomach is still hungry for a more "high" cuisine, then you can look for inexpensive cafes and restaurants that have promotions, happy hours and the like. So, during our walk around the city, not far from Dam Square, we stumbled upon Dam Steakhouse Argentijs restaurant. The waiter who was standing at the entrance tempted us with the offer of the Mini Mix Grill. Per serving (pictured below) for 15 euro Includes steak, chicken breast, ribs, salad, french fries.

Agree, a very good set of meat and only 15 euros. Drinks are ordered separately. That evening, our soul went to the dance and we still scored a few glasses of beer, soda, sauce, in the end the final bill came out to 109 euros for 5 people. But if you purposefully come only to eat, then you can meet the 15-17 euros per person.

Supermarket chain FEBO - in fact, offers ordinary hamburgers and similar fast food, only in a very unusual way. All food is stored in special automatic heated cells. You only need to come up, throw coins (2-3 euros) and pick up the desired "dish". For such a simple way, FEBO eateries are often called "food from the wall."

In ordinary supermarkets, you can also buy small snacks for a walk, for example, these:

And finally, an option for the most hungry and economical: a free cheese tasting. There is such a cheese shop, for example, at the Flower Market.

4. What can you visit in Amsterdam inexpensively?

The price tag for the most famous museums in the city bites quite strongly: the Van Gogh Museum - 17 euro, Heineken Beer Museum 18 euro, Anne Frank House 9 euro, Rijksmuseum - 18.5 euros.

It is up to you to decide whether to spend such a lot of money on inspecting the beautiful. But right away we want to convey the following to you: what you definitely shouldn’t spare money on is a walk along the canals! This is a must do in Amsterdam. Issue price 16-19 euros.

Only for 15 euro you can take a sightseeing group tour of Amsterdam.

Eat in Amsterdam interesting places, visiting which will be free or inexpensive.

A ticket to the Museum of Sex will cost only 5 euro.

You can ride on the water for free using the ferry, which departs from the pier behind the Central Station and goes to the Nord area, on the other side of the bay.

Wondering if museums, canals, cheese, shopping, coffeeshops and entertainment can be squeezed into two short days, which together make a dream vacation in Amsterdam? The answer is yes! A compact city centre, excellent public transport, sidewalks, accessible trails and clearly marked bike paths make Amsterdam ideal city to explore it over the weekend! Here are some tips on how to spend a real weekend in Amsterdam!

To start:

Start in Central railway station, a beautiful entrance to the city, which appeared in the 19th century. stock up travel ticket which will allow you to use public transport free within 24, 48 or 72 hours. If you're planning to visit the city's museums and other attractions, the Amsterdam City Card can be a wise purchase, giving you free entry to many attractions and discounts to a few others. Add to that a city map and you're ready to start your fun weekend!

Day 1: Channels and Entertainment

Western Canal Ring:

A glance at a map of Amsterdam will show you the three main concentric semi-circles that make up the canal ring of Amsterdam: Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht. The western part of the canal ring, a short walk from the station, is called Jordan. Enjoy a leisurely stroll or boat ride through the canals and pose for photos on the bridges, admire the architecture and stop at a quaint cafe or bar for a drink or a bite to eat. Take a tour of the Anne Frank House, but be prepared to queue for good weather and in bad.

Dam Square

Having strayed through the streets, you will again return to the very center of the city, to the historic Dam Square. imposing Royal Palace and New Kirche await your visit. If you're more into the entertainment side, head over to shake hands with a Hollywood celebrity at nearby Madame Tussauds. The imposing façade of the oldest department store in the Netherlands, the famous Biienkorf, is sure to grab your attention, while a wide range of designer labels will help lighten your wallet.

The shopping street Kalverstraat will beckon you with its festive mood, souvenir shops and boutiques.

nine streets

Heading back west to the waters Western Ring channels, and if you're looking for handmade trinkets and souvenirs, or brands you've never heard of, Nine Streets (de Negen Straatjes) is just the place for you. Vintage and designer merchandise awaits you, as do many restaurants with cuisine from all over the world. Do not forget to take memorable photos of Amsterdam during the walk (the canal ring is a protected object world heritage UNESCO, and there is no public transport along the canals).

Leidseplein

When the calm and serenity of the canals give way once again to the hustle and bustle of commerce, know that you have reached Leidsestraat. Turn onto it, dodging trams that go straight down a narrow lane, and go to the theater, club and Entertainment Center Amsterdam - Leidseplein. Stop for a drink and keep walking until the morning if you feel like it. City theater (Stadsshowburg), comedy clubs and pubs under open sky abound in the area. Narrow lanes hide some very affordable restaurants serving cuisines from all over the world.

Red light district

Return to Dam Square and this time head east and you will find yourself among the canals of the historic Old Town. A bunch of oldest buildings Amsterdam and the beautiful Chinatown, home to the infamous Red Light District. Here you will have to remove your camera, otherwise you risk being splashed with water or being chased by very angry ladies. If you want to step in and get to know the "coffee shops" of Amsterdam (where coffee is never at the top of the menu), here you will find branches of some of Amsterdam's most famous establishments.

Day 2: Museums, parks and music

Museums Galore

If you followed our advice during the first day, you will wake up quite late the next day. Now is the time for a little cultural program, and there is hardly any The best way do it than to visit museums (of which there are more in Amsterdam than any other places). The refurbished Rix Museum, the Van Gogh Museum and the Stedelijk Museum (City Museum) await you at the Museum Square. If your museum tastes differ, in Amsterdam you will find museums about everything from bags to tulips and from cheese to shipbuilding. After your museum tours, head to Fresh air to one of the many beautiful parks Amsterdam: The most famous is the Vondelpark near the main museums. A boat trip or a city bike ride will add to your visit and can also be done in the area.

Dutch cuisine

If you haven't tried (loved and hated in equal measure) Dutch cuisine, here's your chance. Order some pancakes at Blinnaya with your choice of sweet or spicy fillings, winter time try the famous Stamppot or pea soup, or taste bitterballen at the Dutch restaurant Haesje Claes. Lunch is not complete without the famous Dutch beer. Surely, your lunch break will inspire you to visit the Heineken breweries, where you will meet hundreds of beer lovers.

Rhythm of Amsterdam

Whatever your musical tastes, in the evening you will always find entertainment to your liking. The world-famous Royal Concert Hall (Het Concertgebouw) will delight fans classical music(It is important that there is no strict dress code required here). If you're here for a weekend when there's a big concert, you can head to Heineken Music Hall or Ziggo Dome a little further south and east.

If you're in the mood for a club night, head back to Leidseplein, home of Amsterdam legends like Paradiso and Melkweg, where new and established artists make every night special.

This two-day itinerary makes a good base for travel on most weekends and weekdays (although shops close earlier and many museums are closed on Mondays). Whatever the weather, you guarantee that you will remember the weekend in Amsterdam for a lifetime!

Amsterdam is an amazing combination of old architecture and new buildings, peaceful landscapes and vibrant nightlife, museums with the greatest works of art and entertainment venues for every taste. When to fly?

  • The best months to visit are April and November.
  • In April, everything around blooms, the air is fresh and sonorous. Such beauty that even those who are always dissatisfied with everything cannot resist. But think twice before heading to the capital of the Netherlands on the King's birthday (April 27). On this day, all of Europe gathers in Amsterdam. Very festive and fun, but if you do not like the crowd and the flea market - do not.
  • In November, you can find yourself in a Christmas fairy tale ahead of time. It gets dark quickly, hundreds of lights are lit, which are reflected in the channels. Sometimes snowflakes can come down from the sky and dance with you to the nearest pub. By the way, there are no drunk people on the streets at this time. And in general, there are few people - the autumn vacationers have already left, and the New Year's revelers are just buying their tickets.
  • Summer in Amsterdam is also very nice. There is no heat, a light breeze, but there are too many tourists.
  • The same goes for the January holidays. Everyone on the streets is drunk. Of course, people are kind and there is no aggression, but you quickly get tired of the eternal party.

How to choose tickets

It is better to choose direct flights, although they are more expensive. Only once, missing a plane during an hour-long transfer in Frankfurt, will you be able to understand what the point is. Only after 9 hours at Munich airport will you feel the value of this advice.

As an option - you can purposefully fly to the same Munich, eat sausages there and relax, and in a day or two fly to Amsterdam.

It is better to look for tickets for direct flights in advance, using all the features of our website.

Where to live

Do not rush to rent housing on the central canal. It is absolutely certain that a Coffeeshop or a bar will be located under your windows (not everyone likes this). Plus, such housing is 2 times more expensive.

Take a closer look at Pijp Oud-Zuid and The Plantage (closer to Oosterpark). It's very cozy there, no crowds of tourists, much more cute places where locals hang out, and adequate grocery stores (Dirk's chain is very cool).

A little bit more

  • If you think that you will be covered with chocolates, tea or lollipops with hemp - this is not so. Although it depends on the strength of self-hypnosis.
