VDNH: description, history, excursions, exact address. Fountain "Stone Flower"

VDNKh is the ideological platform of the Soviet Union, where for decades all the significant achievements of the union republics that were part of the USSR were demonstrated. Currently, VDNKh is a cultural exhibition complex, where you can visit many exhibitions and expositions, or you can leisurely stroll along the alleys along beautiful fountains, visit the urban farm and landscape park.

VDNKh - how to get there by metro

VDNKh is a very large area and there are more than 10 entrances, they are located along the entire perimeter of the exhibition. But the most interesting and convenient place to start exploring is from the main alley, the symmetry of the buildings on which makes you admire their scale. Therefore, it is best to enter VDNKh through the main entrance, located next to the VDNKh metro station. VDNKh station is located on the Kaluga-Rizhskaya line of the Moscow metro; on the diagrams the line is shown in orange. The station, like the entire exhibition of national economic achievements, is located strictly in the northern part of the capital. But after leaving the metro, you shouldn’t rush to VDNKh. First we will pass through a park dedicated to Soviet achievements in space exploration.

Cosmopark at VDNH

The park in its current form was opened in 2008, although the main attractions of the space park have been displayed here for more than 50 years. The obelisk “To the Conquerors of Space” in the form of a launching rocket with a trail was opened in 1964. with VDNKh, only slightly reduced, installed in Saratov region, at the landing site of the first cosmonaut Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin.

The renewed Alley of Cosmonauts appeared to the eyes of Muscovites and guests of the capital in 2008, when the Solar System and a monument to Korolev were installed here. Also clearly visible in the panorama is the famous Cosmos Hotel, located to the right of the space park.

Exhibition of National Economic Achievements

VDNH is a unique exhibition that opened in 1954 as a symbol of all achievements people's republics, part of the USSR. Inside the complex, thematic pavilions were organized for each of the union republics, where they represented their most outstanding achievements. The exhibition is still in operation today. You can find out about all exhibitions and events on the official VDNH website. The alley of fountains begins from the main entrance to VDNKh.

A beautiful alley, on both sides of which there are small fountains, leads us to the main pavilion of VDNH, it is called Pavilion No. 1 “Central”. Once upon a time, this pavilion demonstrated the main achievements of building a socialist state.

Fountain "Friendship of Peoples" at VDNKh

The main fountain of the Soviet Union is located immediately behind Pavilion No. 1. This is the Friendship of Peoples fountain. Sculptural composition The fountain depicts all the union republics of the USSR in the form of girls dressed in national costumes, with paraphernalia one way or another reflecting the uniqueness of each republic.

And around the fountain at some distance are the main pavilions of the exhibition of national economic achievements.

The Friendship of Peoples fountain was opened in 1954 and there is one curious fact associated with it. There are 16 sculptures of girls around the fountain, which corresponds to the number of republics before 1956. But in 1956, the Karelo-Finnish SSR was abolished and renamed the Autonomous Republic of Karelia. Thus, there is an extra girl at the fountain. But they did not remove the statue, so as not to disturb the compositional component of the fountain. Knowing this fact, you will be more interested in exploring the sculptures around the fountain.

But it will be difficult to identify the mysterious girl on your own. Therefore, here is the search scheme. Three girls look at the central entrance and the main pavilion of VDNKh: Ukraine, Russia and Belarus. A Russian girl can be recognized by a huge pile of ears of corn in her hand.

The desired Karelian-Finnish woman is installed on back side fountain, she looks exactly in the opposite direction. You can recognize the girl by the small Christmas tree located at her feet.

Fountain "Stone Flower" at VDNKh

Behind the “Friendship of Peoples” fountain, on Collective Farms Square, there is a unique fountain with beautiful name"Stone Flower". The fountain owes its name to the writer Bazhov, from whose light pen many beautiful fairy tales flowed, including the tale about the stone flower.

But the influence of “Ural Tales” on the fountain is not limited to the name. The central fountain, depicted in the form of a flower, is decorated with mosaics and many details.

Along the perimeter of the fountain, bronze dishes are decorated, and swans shoot streams of water.

A remarkable fact, and this is precisely what makes the fountain unique, is that the “Stone Flower” was the first light and music fountain in the USSR and throughout the world. Behind the fountain is pavilion No. 58 “Agriculture”, formerly the “Ukraine” pavilion. And on the right is pavilion No. 59 “Grain”.

VDNKh sights

To the left of the fountain is pavilion No. 18 “Republic of Belarus”.

If we continue moving straight, we come to Industry Square, where the Yak-42 aircraft, the Mi-8T helicopter and the Su-27 fighter are installed, and the main attraction of the square is, of course, the Vostok missile.

The day was really hot and we went to Gastronome No. 1 to hide from the sun and replenish our supplies of fresh water. Coming here, we experienced real nostalgia for our Soviet childhood.

Further along Architectural Avenue, turning left onto Okruzhnaya Alley, we reached the city farm. The farm has an official website where you can find the schedule of events and prices. Essentially, an urban farm is a petting zoo, where you and your children can get acquainted with domesticated animals and understand the principles of farming; all kinds of master classes and excursions are also held here.

Opposite the city farm we see one of four ponds in the pond system of the Main Botanical Garden and VDNKh.

The main botanical garden itself. N.V. Tsitsina is located on the right hand of the ponds; you can ride around the garden, as well as throughout the territory of the entire VDNKh, on a bicycle rented here.

We reached the next pond, where the “Golden Ear” fountain flaunts. Like many things at VDNKh, the fountain was opened back in 1954, so due to wear and tear, its engineering communications became inoperable. Reconstruction work, during which the fountain could work in full force, haven't started yet.

From the ponds we returned to the main pavilions of the exhibition, from here we can already see pavilion No. 34 “Mechanical Engineering”, behind it is the Industry Square. From here we went towards the landscape park and the Moscow Moskvarium.

And this is the same oceanarium, which in its size has overtaken the once leading one in this indicator. Now Moskvarium is the largest oceanarium in Russia. On the official website of Moskvarium you can get acquainted with the prices and events of the aquarium.

You can walk around VDNKh all day, and it will still be difficult to get around all the pavilions and exhibitions. Especially if you stop everywhere and visit everything. If you visit the city farm and Moskvarium, then you will definitely not have time to explore other attractions, but next to VDNKh there is also a cosmonautics museum and the Ostankino TV tower. Therefore, if you are going to devote only one daylight to exploring VDNKh, you will have to work hard when deciding which attractions to visit. We only managed to rush like a hurricane through the alleys and avenues of the exhibition of national economic achievements. Therefore, without a doubt, we will return here again and visit the Moskvarium and the city farm and the Ostankino Tower. And let’s take a photo of the “Worker and Collective Farm Woman” monument, which we had not noticed, which is installed to the right of the main entrance to VDNKh.

The Exhibition of National Economic Achievements is considered one of the most popular places in Moscow. More than 20 million people visit it every year. In Russia, this is the largest museum-exposition. The territory includes pavilions, fountains, park areas, ponds and monuments. In total there are 49 objects recognized as cultural heritage.

The total area of VDNH with Ostankino Park is 317 hectares.

Opened in August 1939, the Exhibition changed its appearance and content. During its existence, it was repeatedly renamed: VSKhV, VPV, VDNKh USSR, All-Russian Exhibition Center. In 2014, electronic voting was carried out and the place was returned to its former name VDNKh. Also this year, work began on reviving the exhibition.

Receive tourists from different cities around the world there are hotels and hostels that are located in close proximity to the park. The cost of living depends on the level of comfort of the rooms.

Skating rink at VDNKh

In winter, VDNH opens skating rinks for children and adults. You can come here any day except Monday and go ice skating. Every year the theme of New Year's decorations changes, but the skating rinks at VDNKh still remain the largest in Russia.

In the 2018-2019 season, VDNKh operates two large skating rinks, “Tsvetnik” and “Raketa”. And also a small children's skating rink.

Their names correspond to the chosen location. The Flower Garden skating rink is located between the Stone Flower and Friendship of Peoples fountains. And the Raketa ice platform is poured around the Vostok launch vehicle on Industry Square.

Skating rink "Flower Garden"

In the very center of VDNKh there is the Tsvetnik skating rink. The area of the Tsvetnik skating rink at VDNKh is 4,500 square meters.

Skating rink "Rocket"

The second skating rink is made in a space theme. Its highlight was a huge model of the Vostok rocket. The skiing here is faster than the previous ones. Most often it is visited by young people. For them, the organizers organize themed parties with music and animation on the ice rink. The Raketa skating rink is much more spacious and can accommodate twice as many people - 2,400 people.

The area of the Raketa skating rink at VDNKh is 8,600 square meters.

The infrastructure of the Raketa skating rink includes one general skating circle, several entrance pavilions and four warm cafes. Like the other skating rink, there is a first aid station nearby for safety reasons. There are also eight training instructors.

The ticket office is located directly next to the entrance to the skating rink. More than one and a half thousand skates are available for rental for children and adults. You can also take them and bring them to the ice with you from home. If necessary, sharpen the blades immediately.
