Rosslyn's configuration is no coincidence. Had any of the passages been a few inches wider, or had the columns stood in a slightly different position, our geometry exercises would have come to nothing. At that moment, we were finally convinced that these symbols were the main points of the plan, indicating that a treasure was stored under huge stone vaults. After construction was completed, the explanation of the symbols was almost completely transferred by Sir William St. Clair to the Royal Arch ritual to hint future generations on how to find the "key".
