Hello, I am Svetlana. My mother gave me this name because her grandfather was a participant in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877/78 and brought up all the grandchildren in love with Russia. Therefore I have Russian name. I studied the language at school with teaching in Russian. Many of my peers wanted to be guides. But not me. I wanted to be on stage. Do you understand what your parents thought? I didn’t get into philology, I was accepted at the Institute of Tourism. And just like that, another stage began - each time with a new repertoire and in front of a new audience. At the age of 19, I already knew that a hobby of traveling would be a profession. And knowledge is also needed. Therefore, I had to study both at the philological and historical faculties. If you trust me and go with me on a trip to Bulgaria and neighboring countries, You will enjoy real stories, seasoned with a little hot pepper and a little humor.
We will start the path with the Madara horseman and the old throne of Tarnovo. Let's continue with the Rila Monastery. Let's listen to the whisper of legends at the summer residence of Queen Mary in Balchik. We will climb Shipka to Alyosha, visit the tomb of the Thracian rulers near Kazanlak in Sveshtari. Let's run into the vast lands of ancient Hellas and walk along the streets of Old Constantinople. We will learn about Count Tepes - Dracula and pass through many small and large villages with romantic, winding streets and incredible monuments of architecture and art.

My name is Rumyana and I am a licensed interpreter. I live in Plovdiv, the second largest city in the country, which is located in the center of Southern Bulgaria. I met my first tourists back in the last century - in those distant times when there was such a good youth organization Orbit - the equivalent of the Soviet Sputnik. And since then, tourism has been my favorite profession.
The Bulgarian poet Georgy Dzhagarov wrote that "Bulgaria is a country as large as the palm of your hand", but in this palm there is majestic mountains, endless plains, fast rivers, blue lakes and unpredictable seas. In this ancient land For thousands of years, people, states and peoples have changed, leaving behind traces of seven civilizations. This land keeps memories of the past, hides secluded ancient sites and small towns with unique architecture, beautiful nature. Used since ancient times mineral springs– why not feel like a Roman emperor! And numerous ancient sanctuaries and Christian monasteries create a unique atmosphere of another world and spirituality. Of course, a vacation in Bulgaria is definitely worth it and more than once. This country is closest to the Russian people. No wonder, back in the days of the USSR, they said: “A chicken is not a bird, Bulgaria is not a foreign country,” and they called it the sixteenth republic. That time of fraternal relations is still visible in modern life Bulgaria. Almost all middle-aged and older people speak Russian, which makes it as easy as possible for our people to communicate. Young people speak English, although many of them, working in tourism and real estate, have already spoken Russian. So you won't be misunderstood.

Another advantage of Bulgaria over other countries is its mild climate. A hot summer is a rarity for its coast, it happens only once every few decades. The refreshing sea breeze disperses the heat and stuffiness, making your stay here comfortable. In addition, almost the entire territory of Bulgaria is balneological resort, which is especially important due to the long off-season period. bathing season in Bulgaria it is even shorter than in Sochi, but the abundance of thermal and mud springs and, as a result, SPA centers, allows vacationers, in addition to relaxation, to get a solid increase in health. Even in winter resorts, in addition to traditional winter sports, you will be offered a course of treatment. Bulgaria is a country of health.

Another very important aspect is the availability of Bulgarian resorts. To date, this is the most inexpensive vacation for the Russians. You can relax without straining cheaper than in the resorts of Russia. And if you set a goal - to save money, organize ... read more

The cost of rest in Varna. March 2019.

tour cost

Traveled with a 12 year old. 22 thousand rubles is a flight from Moscow to Varna (tickets were bought in November, by spring they have risen in price significantly). 6600 - tourist visas to Bulgaria (3300 per person) + I still had to get a notarized permission to fly out from the father of the child, it cost 1200 rubles.

Travel in Varna from the airport to the hotel - on regular bus, walks every half an hour through the whole city, 1.5 leva per person. Wrap luggage in film at Varna airport - 15 lev.

Hotel "Varna", in the very center, double room, 60 lev per day. For 4 nights it turned out 9120 rubles with breakfast included.

Food and products

The cost of food in the restaurants of Varna is not very high - 5-10 lev per dish, so we had a full dinner for one and a half thousand rubles. Wine in shops - in bottles 5-10 lev, draft - from 1.5 lev per liter and quite decent. Strawberries - 6 leva per kilogram in the central market near the cathedral (it is more expensive), and 3 leva per kilogram in the main market. Tomatoes - 4-6 leva per kilo, greens - 1 lev per bunch.

Souvenirs and other goods

From souvenirs - I collected Bulgarian cosmetics with rose and lavender. It is everywhere - in specialized stores, and in pharmacies and supermarkets. Perfume with rose - 10-12 lev, hand creams with rose \ lavender \ olive - 2-6 lev, shampoos - 5-6 lev. There are more expensive age series - from 10 lev for a tube of cream. Souvenir soap in the form of roses and with a rose scent - 1.5-2 leva.

In Varna duty-free everything is the same (only the choice is much smaller) and the same prices - only in euros.

Cost of services and entertainment

We went to a concert of Italian music at the Varna Opera, it was 30 levs per person. And completely free concert organ music in a catholic church. We went to the famous sights - Pobiti stones - on our own by train, the fare back and forth is 3 leva per person. Archaeological Museum Varna - 10 leva adult, 3 leva child.

Holiday experience in August

This year I visited Bulgaria for the first time. My choice fell on the city of Varna. I must say right away that I did not lose, because the rest turned out to be just fabulous. Warm sea, beautiful weather and just wonderful impressions. The air is warm, the temperature exceeded +25, and there was almost no precipitation (only one night it rained a little). The sea is warm, the water is clean. In a word, everything is fine here and accompanies a good rest.

As we have already written on this site more than once, group buses on large buses seemed very expensive to us. At the same time, if in Montenegro a rather high price is justified by unusual, difficult routes, which is not so easy to repeat on your own, then in Bulgaria you can travel almost the entire coast.

Arriving in the country, we planned to spend money on 3-4 excursions (to see the country and collect interesting material for the site), but half an hour of communication with the tour operator manager took away all desire buy something from them. We were visited by the feeling that all excursions were put on stream, and their conduct was only a pumping out of money from inexperienced tourists.

Knowing that the first impression is often deceptive, we talked with other tourists from. Most of them are standard excursions from a local tour operator were dissatisfied: someone complained about constant delays and delays, someone did not like the guides, the majority described the excursion program as “poor” and clearly not worth the money spent.

One aged man very aptly described the excursion he visited:

“You immediately feel when they want to show you the country and take money for it, and when they want to take more money under the pretext of showing you a couple of sights.”

In general, we cannot recommend excursions that are sold in hotels. In our opinion, the price does not match the quality.

And where then to look for good and interesting excursions with an individual approach?

If you are not going on vacation for the first time, you should know the difference between a group tour by bus and a personal tour by car. Of course, the second option is significantly more expensive, but here you have an individual approach, a much richer program, and the ability to adjust the route depending on your preferences.

Given the highly inflated cost of group tours in Bulgaria, individual tours are much more more profitable- pay 20-30% more, and the pleasure is many times more.

Bulgaria is a very small country. Sami are very warm and friendly people, but there are practically no guides among them. We did not see private guides, as is customary, for example, in Georgia, in Bulgaria. Personal excursions are mainly carried out by people from Russia, Ukraine and other CIS countries who have long moved to Bulgaria for permanent residence, have studied the country well and now can tell their compatriots about it in a beautiful and interesting way.

It is unlikely that you will be able to find such guides on the spot - we have not seen any advertisements or announcements. The only way out is to pre-purchase excursions via the Internet. This is convenient, and you will get at least some guarantees that your guide will be an interesting and knowledgeable person.

Where to buy individual excursions in Bulgaria?

There are quite a lot of sites that help tourists and guides find each other. But in Bulgaria, the choice of most of them is rather modest. We can safely recommend you two options: and. Let's try to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of each of these services.

Tripster in Bulgaria - the pros and cons of the service

— positions itself as excursions from local residents. In fact, they are carried out by our compatriots, who at some point moved to live in Bulgaria. So there will definitely be no problems with the language barrier.

Unlike many sites that publish almost any ad for a fee or %, Tripster checks his guides. The choice of excursions here is more modest, but they higher quality, and the prices are significantly lower than on other resources. Guides do not earn on the fact that once a month they conduct a tour “for a price”, but make a name for themselves and earn on the number of clients. As tourists, this is very beneficial for us.

The second key advantage of the service is the ability chat with the guide before buying an excursion. You can immediately clarify the details, if necessary, make changes to the tour and understand whether you like the guide or not. We strongly advise you to at least try to write to the guides. Even if you do not go anywhere, you can get a lot of useful information.

If the tour is carried out by car, then it is usually provides a guide. The cost can be either “per excursion”, when the price does not depend on the number of participants, or “per person”. Another plus is that they will pick you up directly at the hotel. No need to go anywhere and wait at the bus stop for a long time.

Of the minuses of Tripster, it is worth highlighting a small amount of excursions. The choice is still very modest. But this is a consequence of the picky selection of guides.

WeAtlas is a trusted site with excursions in Bulgaria

You can also find quite interesting excursions, but specifically in Bulgaria, the choice is rather modest, mainly walking options in Sofia, the capital of the country, located quite far from the coast.

Seemed pretty interesting to us. In 9 hours, the organizers promise to show all the main sights of the city.

The key disadvantage of the service, in our opinion, is the extremely poor description of excursions. Even the banal program of the walk has to be clarified with the help of correspondence with the organizers.
