Duong dong vietnam description. What to see on the island of Phu Quoc, in the capital Duong Dong? Duong Dong weather conditions

We decided to go after living a year in neighboring China. After a long stay in Beijing, I wanted something calm and green, so we limited our stay in big cities and focused on Phu Quoc Island. Rest in Fukuoka has a number of features. The island is small, overgrown with jungle and dotted with endless beaches.

The Asian flavor was not new to us, so I will not focus on describing the local "wonderfulness" and behavioral patterns. Let me just say that a trip to any country in Asia is a guaranteed culture shock, so be prepared. Holidays on the island of Phu Quoc will not be an exception.

Phu Quoc itself is a very nice place, suitable for all types of tourists (families, seniors, divers, etc.).

Phu Quoc Island is one of the two most visited islands in Vietnam by tourists (the other being Cat Ba Island). It is the westernmost part of the country.

The Vietnamese themselves call the island of Phu Quoc "Pearl", "Island of 99 peaks", and also "Sunset Island". The last name is connected, of course, with its geographical position.

Where is Phu Quoc Island located, how to get from the mainland

The island has an area of over 560 sq. km. Located in the northern part of the Gulf of Thailand. The distance to the country's capital, Ho Chi Minh City, is 250 km, and to the nearest Vietnamese port, Ratja, is 115 km. It has a length from north to south of about 50 km, the width is less than half.

Phu Quoc has a mountainous terrain (hence the "Island of 99 peaks"). The highest mountains are in the northern part. In the center and south of Phu Quoc Island, the local population is actively developing agriculture.

The outlines of the island resemble a triangle with the apex facing south. The extreme western point of Phu Quoc Island and all of Vietnam is located at Cape Da Chai (Da Trai) in the northwestern part of Phu Quoc on the peninsula.

administrative center and air gate island is the city of Duong Dong. Therefore, your vacation in Fukuoka will surely begin with your arrival in this city. True, there is another option - high-speed cruise boats. They arrive at the southern tip of the island at the fishing port of An Thoi.

Vietnam Airlines aircraft operate 10 daily flights between Duong Dong and Ho Chi Minh City (1 hour flight). The same airline can be reached twice a day from Ratzya or back (30 minutes on the way).

The journey from Ratsia to Phu Quoc Island by boat takes about 2.5 hours (10 USD). There are two flights per day.

Directly from the pier in Anthoy, you can take a bus to Duong Dong. From the center resort area the airport and the pier are located approximately at an equal distance.

The resort part occupies the southwestern coast of the island and is known as Long Beach (the Vietnamese call Bai Chuong). Delivery to the resort will cost from 40,000 to 60,000 VND. There are motorcycle taxis and ordinary cars.

Beaches on Phu Quoc Island

The main city of the island, Duong Dong, is also the center of tourist life. Most of the hotels are located immediately south of the city along the 20-kilometer line of Bai Chuong Beach. Most tourists coming to rest in Phu Quoc stop at Bai Chuong.

The city is divided into two parts by the river of the same name, which flows into the sea. From the mouth of the river to the south is the street Tran Hung Dao (Tran Hung Dao). This street smoothly turns into a coastal road, along which there is a message between the resorts to Anthoy itself (26 km).

There are also beaches to the north of the city. They are all some kind of “Bai”: Bayonglang, Baiwong, Baikuakan, Baivungdao and Baidai. But here is the most famous beach Phu Quoc Island is located on its southeastern shore. It is called Baisao (Bai Sao, or Star Beach).

You can get to it by driving south along the seaside road, but you will need to turn onto another highway a few kilometers north of Anthoy.

A few kilometers south of Baisao is the most beautiful beach islands with the incomprehensible name Baikem (Ice Cream Beach). But the most secluded beach is undoubtedly considered Bay Thom. He is the one northern beach Phu Quoc Island, and you can get there only if you have permission from the military authorities. If there is no permission, do not tempt fate, otherwise your vacation in Fukuoka may be overshadowed by unpleasant events.

Holidays in Fukuoka. About attractions

For such a small island, there are quite a lot of attractions, of which we visited three of the most interesting to us: the national reserve, the most high mountain and Coconut Jail.

The main advantage of Vietnam for an independent traveler is ridiculously low prices for everything. And most of the museums in the country, in general, are free (everything is in the best communist traditions, everything is for the people).

AT national reserve the child simply squealed with delight at the sight of the jungle and animals, for some completely unrealistic price (about 500-600 dong), we also gave him a ride on a motorbike to adequately complete the walk in the footsteps of Rambo.

They climbed the highest mountain on the island, Chya (603 m), without a guide, since it is low (only 600-odd meters) and it is difficult to get lost there. But from the top there is a stunning view of the sea and the coastline. If you suddenly want to climb into the depths of the jungle, it’s better to take one of the locals with you, since there are many who want it and their services are cheap.

coconut prison

I’ll tell you about the Coconut Prison separately, because for me it was one of the most interesting places on the island. The history of the Vietnam War has always seemed to me very instructive and fascinating, so I really wanted to look at one of the memories of it.

Entrance to the museum is free. Inside there is a large exposition, consisting mainly of photographs and puppet installations. The latter look absolutely unnatural and sometimes ridiculous, but still creepy. Therefore, I do not advise visiting a prison for especially impressionable people. For example, I went alone, my husband and son refrained from such a walk.

The main thing that can be taken away from this excursion is how deep the memories of this war, which ended many years ago, settled in the minds of the Vietnamese. To such an extent that they are still afraid to pronounce the word "grenade". They even refused to serve the fruit of the same name to the New Year's table.

That's it short description interesting places in Phu Quoc I came up with. Highly recommend this place to those who are tired of big city, but still has the strength to see something and walk through a real Vietnamese forest.

Is it drawn to the lakes?))) Morka is not enough ?! Grab a taxi and come. I leave a link to the map - Zyn Dong Lake. Tracing paper from Vietnamese Hồ Dương Đông

Lake Duong Đong on the map

Dương Đông means “Eastern Ocean” or “Eastern Waters” in Vietnamese.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO VIEW ZIN DONG LAKE (DUONG DONG) IN PHUKUOKA?

The most important reason is to feel like Sylvester Stallone in the Rambo movie. There are legends around Fukuoka that it was in the thickets of Lake Dương Đông that some episodes of an American film were filmed.

You know, everything is possible!

For locals and tourists, Fukuoka freshwater reservoir plays a huge role.

Imagine a lake capable of producing 14.000 m3 of water/day. In 80% of Fukuoka hotels, water is supplied from this reservoir.

Thus, Duong Dong Lake is the largest reservoir, as well as the main source of fresh water for the entire island of Phu Quoc.

The concept of the Dying Dong reservoir was started in 1996 and completed in 2003. The total investment amounted to 45 billion VND. Investments in the project were sent by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

In 2018, this is one of the main attractions of the island, which few people know about and where there are no excursions.
You need to go to the lake on your own. Located in the center of the island. I remind you, the link to the location is at the beginning of the article.

For me, the importance of visiting the lake lies in the opportunity to visit a non-standard place that few people know about. The peculiarity of the attraction is peace and a state of complete relaxation that you will feel next to the water.

Order a Vietnamese coffee, open a book you have started and immerse yourself in reading and thinking. You will feel the feelings of the heroes of Kim Ki-duk's incredible tape "Spring, summer, autumn, winter ... and again spring."

Complete appeasement. Also, the process of brewing Vietnamese coffee is also saturated with a meditative state. The main thing is not to rush!

Hungry? Order seafood and vegetable salads. Delicious. There is a high probability that the fish will be caught from the reservoir near which you are resting.

Don't worry about quality! fish is good)

In the southern part of the island is the Phu Quoc hydroelectric power station, which often works intermittently. Interesting fact: Until 2002, 50% of the island was without electricity.

The so-called "Gelatoria", in Russian - an ice cream cafe, began to open only in 2009. Do you want ice cream? Then take a ticket to Saigon))

Hiking around the lake is very popular. Park your bike and go for a walk.

And the most important fact: the lake of the Eastern Ocean is saturated with the vibes of romance and love. Come with your loved ones and experience everything yourself.

Come! You will love it here.

The flight from the former Saigon takes only 40 minutes, and the presence of two low-cost airlines on the route: Jetstar and VietJet guarantees a low cost of the flight. We went the other way, namely water.

From the town of Hatien, located near the border with Cambodia, ferries and faster long boats depart daily for Phu Quoc, for some reason called the local “superboat”; on one of these we crossed to the island. A ticket for one person cost 230,000 Vietnamese dong, which is approximately equal to $ 10, the journey lasts about an hour and a half. On the way, we were entertained by Vietnamese TV shows broadcast on several installed screens and a motley audience in the cabin: large, several generations, local families, bearded European backpackers and even livestock and birds coexisted perfectly on board.

The capital of Phu Quoc, the city of Duong Dong, by the standards of megacities South-East Asia and it doesn't look like a city. So, an urban-type settlement. However, this is the heart of Fukuoka, the largest locality on the island and the center of local tourist life. It is located on west coast. But the pier, to which our ship landed after a short voyage, was in the east of the island. Fortunately, as in any transshipment point, there was no shortage of offers for transportation to the final point.

And finally we are in Duong Dong. A hotel room was booked ahead of time, seven days of stay cost us about 38 thousand rubles. This four-star hotel is one of the oldest on the island, with a well-deserved reputation and a convenient location within walking distance of the night market.

In addition, when choosing, we were bribed by a variety of additional bonuses included in the cost of living. On site you can play table tennis, minigolf and petanque, go kayaking or lie in a hammock on the beach, and free bicycles are available for trips to the city for sports guests of the hotel. However, after the first attempt to arrange a bike race under the rays of the hot southern sun, we left this type of transport to more enduring tourists and accustomed to the climate. local residents, while they themselves preferred beach hammocks in the shade of sprawling palm trees. Sand beach slightly spoil the concrete steps that protect it from erosion, apparently. After the tide, surprised tiny crabs sometimes crawl out of the sand; look around and quickly dig back.

And the Long Beach, on which the chosen one is located, and most of the other hotels on the island, faces west. This gives a wonderful opportunity to enjoy breathtaking sunsets every evening.

Having briefly studied the territory and tasted the temperature of the water in the Gulf of Thailand, we, following the call of the stomach, went in search of a place to eat, from the very first time we accidentally stumbled upon the Duong Dong night market, and so we dined there all the remaining days.

The atmosphere here is democratic - plastic tables and chairs next to counters bursting with freshly caught seafood, the smell of grilling, shouting touts, and the price tag, perhaps even higher than the average for the island, but the flavor of the place justifies all the costs. No wonder the night market is one of the main attractions of the island. The market begins with a kind of food court, the emphasis of which is, of course, on fish, shellfish and other various seafood, which, however, does not negate the presence of traditional Vietnamese dishes and local presentation of European cuisine on the menu.

Day after day I consistently tasted livestock from the shelves, and my life partner preferred more traditional dishes, as well as desserts, fried ice cream and Vietnamese coffee. Prices for hot dishes start at about 100-120.000 VND (about $ 5), a portion of small grilled shells with a sauce of a mixture of black pepper, salt and lime juice, an excellent snack for beer, by the way - 80.000 ($ 3.5), beer, as a rule, Saigon Beer, light lager - 12-15.000 dong. Fried ice cream, along with the mesmerizing spectacle of its preparation, will cost 30,000 VND. The food court is followed by shopping arcades and souvenir shops. Toward the end of the trip, we found out that if you follow them down to the beach, you will get to small cafes right on the sand, where the locals themselves eat, and the prices are lower.

From here, it is within easy reach of the lighthouse, built on a rock at the entrance to Duong Dong Bay. Fulfilling its main function, this building is also a temple of the sea goddess, and superstitious fishermen are drawn to bow to her with offerings in the form of flowers and fruits.

Phu Quoc is an island ideal for a relaxing, measured holiday. It doesn't have many attractions. However, there is something to see and how to diversify the rest. Of the two popular overland excursions - to the south and north of the island - we chose the first. The most economical way is to go as part of a group of 8-10 people with an English-speaking guide, as we did. They paid $15 per person, this amount included lunch. It will be more comfortable, but more expensive, to go on an excursion in a separate passenger car and / or with Russian speaking guide. The end point of the route was the picturesque Bai Sao beach, known throughout the island for its fine white sand. Beautiful place, although we were not lucky with the weather: the waves made the water on the beach unclear and spoiled the postcard view. Conclusion: it is better to come here in calm weather.

On the way to the beach, tourists are brought to the factory of the famous nuoc mam fish sauce, without which it is impossible to imagine any feast in Vietnam. This sauce is made from fish fermented in the sun and in the heat, with the addition of salt and spices, so it has a very specific smell, especially strong in production. My wife could not even overcome herself and go into the production room, where there are vats for fermentation.

In addition, during the trip there will be stops at a pearl farm, a black pepper plantation, near the Su Muon Pagoda and at a museum dedicated to the former Coconut Prison on the island under the colonial government, but in fact a concentration camp. At the pearl farm, visitors are told about the process and visually demonstrated the stages of pearl formation in a shell, and then they are taken to a shop located at the farm. The decorations here are beautiful, but the prices bite. I note that at the night market you can buy replicas of almost the entire local model range, and smiling market sellers claim that their goods are real, and as proof, they scratch, bite and abuse unfortunate earrings and necklaces in a different way.

After a land excursion and walks around the city, it's time for scuba diving. There are several dive centers on the island, I went to sea with Rainbow Divers and Vietnam Explorer. The first is a network of centers throughout Vietnam, their guides are mainly Europeans and Australians, although there was even one instructor from Algeria, there are Russian guides. Everything is organized at an excellent level, prices start at $85 for two dives per day in the north of the island, $35 for an additional non-diving passenger on board. The price includes transfer from the hotel and back, rental of a full set of diving equipment, everything you need for snorkeling, lunch, drinking water. Vietnam Explorer gives the impression of a local office, the guides are all Vietnamese, the service is somewhat worse, but the prices are lower (you can bargain) and more color.

Another pride of the island is the local dog breed, the Phu Quoc Ridgeback. Its distinguishing feature is a comb of protruding wool that runs along the entire backbone of the animal. They say that dogs of this breed are strictly forbidden to be taken out of the island. Although, it is possible that this is just a story of local guides.

A week in Fukuoka flew by unnoticed. We were not at the waterfalls that dry up during the dry season, there was not enough time to visit the recently opened safari park. We will try to close these gaps next time, because Phu Quoc is an island that we would like to return to.

Phu Quoc is an island. The main city of this island is the city of Duong Dong. It's really city on administrative division, but outwardly this city looks very little like a city.

However, everything is in order)

The next two days were planned as days of serene rest. Just you and the sea.

But, as it turned out, I can’t do nothing at all) The habit developed during the trip to wake up early and go somewhere, as well as the need to buy some beach things, made me get out to the city right the next day upon arrival. December 14, 2015, day nine, market.

I went to the city in the morning so that the sun would not burn. But the sun did not know that in the morning it should not bake and it was hot so that the hair smoked. So the first thing to do was to find a market and buy a hat.

In general, it takes no more than half an hour to get to the city, but the heat and road repairs convinced me to take a taxi. The taxi driver took me to the night market, which, of course, did not work in the morning. I walked through the empty market and went out through a side street straight to the embankment. The city was sleeping) Perhaps my morning fell on their siesta, well, literally no more than ten people met me on the way. I twirled along the embankment, admired the old boats and went to look for the day market.

Go not far, across the river, to the other side, I check the route using the Maps me application. And here is the market.

It's best not to go there unless absolutely necessary. Dirty, motorcycles in a continuous stream, hot and nervous. As soon as I see a side branch, I turn there. Motorcycles also ride here, but less often. In general, the Vietnamese almost never leave their motorcycle, they make purchases directly from the motorcycle. I won’t be surprised if they are all in diapers so as not to get off the horse once again))

Here is street food

And seafood in strange shapes

And in traditional too)

I get tired of the noise, hustle, heat and breathtaking smells of the market quickly, so I buy what I need and go back to the embankment, where there is an almost European cafe Buddy Ice Cream. It's cool there, good wifi, nice staff and you can nod to them so that they call a taxi.

I peacefully spent the middle of the day on the beach, in the thickest shade and coolness, and in the evening Ira and I purposefully go to the night market. That's where exotic!

When you first get to the Fukuoka night market, your eyes just run wide and everyone asks the same question - do they also eat THIS?)

Moreover, some specimens do not look like food. At least I don't have an appetite at all)

And yet everyone eats it. In Vietnam, in principle, everything that moves can be eaten. The only thing I haven't heard is if they eat cats. And squirrels, for example, are eaten. And they also eat such a miracle.

If you don't want the exotic, there are more familiar foods.

With you, the victim from the oceanarium will be caught and roasted on coals.

Be sure to warn in advance so as not to pepper, otherwise it will be fiery) Knowledgeable people they also say that it tastes better in foil, as there is no smack of smoke.

While they are frying, you sit down at the table right here and join in the coloring.

Smaller shrimp are tastier

These shells are absolutely rubber. Inside is like minced meat, but very little.

And this one is the tastiest. I don't know what his name is. And the surname is probably Ten-legged_cancer)

In the market, in addition to a huge variety of sea delicacies and other sweets, there are souvenirs, clothes, hats and bags ... But the most important thing is that you can buy very inexpensive pearls here. Especially if you take a lot at once. The Vietnamese are generally good at bargaining, but at the wholesale they give way actively and with pleasure. Just take more!) The lighter the pearl, the larger the diameter of the ball planted in the shell and the mother-of-pearl overgrows it much faster, which means that such a pearl is much cheaper. At the same time, all the properties of pearls are preserved, which they will be happy to demonstrate to you by scratching a mirror with your pearl. White mealy stripes remain on the mirror, this is mother-of-pearl, which means that the pearls are not glass.

"What God, ti my God! why mute on the to that fair! wheels, slope, yogot, tyutyun, belt, cibula, kramarі all sortsSo what hoch bi in intestines bulo rubles from thirty, thenth also b not having purchased usogo fair"(Mikola Gogol)
