Main types of visas

Russians traveling to Malta must apply for a Schengen (type C) or national Maltese (type D) visa. If you plan to spend no more than 90 days within the Schengen area, and most of the first trip will take place on the islands, a Schengen visa for Malta is requested. It can be issued for one or more trips per six months. For transit through the islands of the Maltese archipelago, you need to get a transit Schengen.

The national visa issued by Malta entitles you to stay on the islands for up to 180 days per six months. It is requested for study, marriage / marriage, employment, family reunification. If you need to stay longer, you will need to apply for a residence permit on the islands.

Short-term Schengen (type C) and long-term national (type D) visas can be either single or multiple entry.

How much does a visa to Malta cost in 2019?

Malta has chosen VfsGlobal as an intermediary in the process of accepting documents for any visas. In its visa application centers, visitors are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Most applicants are observed before or after holidays/weekends. The exception is the exhibition center in Moscow, where pre-registration is required.

The process of applying to the EC:

  • provision of documents;
  • delivery of biometric data;
  • Payment of duties.

Children under 6 years of age and those who have been fingerprinted for the Schengen countries over the past 59 months do not undergo biometrics.

Visa Application Centers provide additional services to applicants:

  • filling out a questionnaire (300 rubles);
  • automatic photo booth (200 rubles);
  • SMS-notification about the status of the application (100 rubles);
  • courier delivery of a passport to your home (according to the tariffs of transport companies);
  • Premium Service Hall (70 or 150 euros, only in Kaliningrad and Moscow).

The full package of documents and the amount of the consular fee of the EC are transferred to the Consulate of Malta in the capital. Whether to allow a particular applicant to enter the islands is decided by visa officers. The sealed envelope with the decision and the international passport is returned to the EC, where it is issued to the applicant.
